A Study on Organizational Competence and Organizational Performance for Smart Factory Implementation of Korean Small and Medium Enterprises (국내 중소기업의 스마트공장 구축을 위한 조직역량과 조직성과에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose This study examines the roles of firm-level smart factory implementation in the relationship between organizational competence and organizational performance in the context of Korean small and medium Enterprises (SMEs). To achieve this goal, this study presents and empirically tests a research model with evaluation data conducted by industrial experts on how organizational competence can be exploited to positively influence organizational performance through smart factory implementation. Design/methodology/approach Organizational competence are based on the research construct developed by Odważny et al.(2018). Research constructs on smart factory are based on the measurement model developed by Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for Korea small and medium Enterprises (TIPA) (2020) and organizational performance are based on the performance construct developed by Kwon(2019). To complete the investigation, we collected 31 firm data conducted by industrial experts in Korea from Dec 2018 to Dec 2020. Most of firm was implemented officially by government budget granted for smart factory of Korea SMEs. To test our hypotheses, partial least squares (PLS) method was employed. Findings The findings indicate that organizational competence is antecedent to influence smart factory implementation, while smart factory implementation has significant relationship with organizational performance. This study provides a better understanding of the connection between organizational competence and organizational performance through smart factory implementation. So companies should focus on enhancing organizational competence and implementing smart factory to obtain sustainable competitiveness.

Relation of Compassionate Competence to Burnout, Job Stress, Turnover Intention, Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment for Oncology Nurses in Korea

  • Background: Nursing focuses on the development of an empathic relationship between the nurse and the patients. Compassionate competence, in particular, is a very important trait for oncology nurses. The current study sought to determine the degree of compassionate competence in oncology nurses, as well as to determine the relationships between compassionate competence, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, degrees of job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in oncology nurses. Materials and Methods: A descriptive correlational study evaluating the relationships between compassionate competence, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, degrees of job satisfaction, and organizational commitment in 419 oncology nurses was conducted between January 30 and February 20, 2015. Results: The average score of compassionate competence for oncology nurses in the current study was higher than for clinical nurses. Conclusions: The correlational analysis between compassionate competence and organizational commitment, burnout, job stress, turnover intention, and degree of job satisfaction revealed a high correlation between compassionate competence and positive job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Conclusions: Compassionate competence was higher in oncology nurses than in nurses investigated in previous studies and positively correlated with work experience. Job satisfaction and organizational commitment in nurses may be improved through compassionate competence enhancement programs that employ a variety of experiences.

The Influence of Core Competence on Organizational Performance of Domestic Small and Medium Enterprise and the Moderating Effect of Technology Transfer (국내 중소기업의 핵심역량과 조직성과, 그리고 기술이전의 조절효과)

  • Technology transfer has emerged as one of me important key issues for obtaining competitive advantage. To improve the chances of effective technology transfer, a strategic alliance between partners have to mirror respective objectives. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of core competences on organizational performance in domestic companies, including the moderating effect of technology transfer. This study adopted research variables such as technology competence, resource competence, marketing competence as independent variables, with organizational performance as a dependent variable, including the moderating variable of technology transfer. 113 companies data were collected from me survey. The result of this empirical study is summarized as follows. First, marketing, resource, and technology competence are the important determinants to influence organizational performance in direct effect model. Second, only marketing competence has positive influence to organizational performance in organizations with higher needs of technology transfer. Third, technology transfer as a moderating variable moderates me effect of the core competences on organizational performance.

Effects of Compassion Competence and Organizational Commitment on Customer Orientation in Hospital Nurses (병원간호사의 공감역량과 조직몰입이 고객지향성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of compassion competence and organizational commitment on customer orientation in hospital nurses. Methods: The participant of this study was 223 nurses who have worked at a tertiary hospital in Chungcheong Province for at least one year. The general characteristics, compassion competence, organizational commitment, and customer orientation of the participants were collected, using self-reported questionnaires, from June 15 to June 29, 2018. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA ($Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test), Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using an SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: Customer orientation was significantly associated with organizational commitment (r=.51, p<.001), and compassion competence (r=.74, p<.001). Compassion competence (${\beta}=.62$, p<.001), organizational commitment (${\beta}=.17$, p=.004), and marital status (${\beta}=.11$, p=.034) were identified as the predictors of customer orientation. These variables explained 59.1% of the variance in customer orientation. Conclusion: This study confirmed that compassion competence and organizational commitment may have an impact on customer orientation in hospital Nurses. Therefore, to improve customer orientation in hospital nurses, it is necessary to develop interventions and education programs considering these factors.

Canonical Correlation between Drug Dosage Calculation Error Prevention Competence of Nurses and Medication Safety Organizational Climate (약물계산 오류예방을 위한 간호사의 역량과 투약안전과 관련된 병원조직풍토간의 정준상관관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between drug dosage calculation error prevention competence and medication safety organizational climate. Methods: We surveyed 207 nurses from 15 hospitals. An assessment survey was designed to assess the medication safety organizational climate which consisted of four subcategories including medication safety cultures, medication safety initiatives, medication error communication, and medication error management competence. The drug dosage calculation error prevention competence contains two subcategories; Dosage calculation habits and ability. The data were collected from July to August 2011. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, partial Pearson correlation coefficient, canonical correlation were used. Results: Organizational climate was related to dosage calculation error prevention competence with two significant canonical variables. The first canonical correlation coefficient was .53 (Wilks' ${\lambda}$=0.71, df=8, p<.001) and that of the second was .21 (Wilks' ${\lambda}$=0.96, df=3, p=.027). The first variate indicated higher perception of medication safety cultures, safety initiatives, error communication and error management competence were related to better dosage calculation habits. The second variate showed higher perception of medication safety cultures and lower medication error management competence were related to higher calculation ability. Conclusion: Continuous supporting strategies for medication safety organizational climate should be implemented to improve drug dosage calculation habits.

Effect of communication competence on the organizational effectiveness in dental hygienists (치과위생사의 의사소통능력이 조직유효성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the effect of communication competence on the organizational effectiveness in dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 248 dental hygienists in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggido from November 1 to 30, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(4 items), job characteristics(10 items), communication competence(49 items), organizational commitment(15 items), job satisfaction(16 items), and turnover intention(5 items). The instrument for communication competence and organizational commitment was done by Likert 5 points scale. Data were analyzed by t test, one way ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression test, and post-hoc Scheffe test using SPSS 18.0 program Results: The average of communication competence was 3.49(${\pm}0.28$). Of the sub-factors of communication competence, interpretational competence had the highest score of 3.65(${\pm}0.33$) followed by self-presentation 3.50(${\pm}0.49$), message conversion 3.50(${\pm}0.47$), role performance 3.44(${\pm}0.37$), and goal setting competence 3.28(${\pm}0.60$). There were significant effects in the organizational commitment including workplace(dental clinic=1, ${\beta}$=-0.254), weekly average working hours($${\leq_-}40$$ hours=1, ${\beta}$=0.182), role performance(${\beta}$=0.163), self-presentation(${\beta}$=0.144), goal setting competence(${\beta}$=0.130), and position(head=1, ${\beta}$=0.137). There were significants effects in the job satisfaction including position(head=1, ${\beta}$=0.217), weekly average working hours($${\leq_-}40$$ hours=1, ${\beta}$=0.204), education level(graduate school=1, ${\beta}$=0.184), job career(3~6 years=1, ${\beta}$=-0.181), goal setting competence(${\beta}$=0.194), and interpretational competence(${\beta}$=0.124). Conclusions: The communication competence of the dental hygienists showed a partial effect on the organizational effectiveness. In order to improve the organizational commitment and job satisfaction and the turnover intention, a variety of efforts must be taken and focused on goal setting competence, role performance, self-presentation, and interpretational competence.

The Influence of Core Competence on Organizational Performance of IT Small and Medium Enterprises : The Moderating Role of Entrepreneurship and Government Support (IT중소기업의 핵심역량이 기업성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 기업가 정신과 정부지원의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of core competences on organizational performance in small and medium sized IT enterprises. Especially, the moderating effects of entrepreneurship and government support variables between the core competences and organizational performance were examined. To empirically prove the hypothesis, the statistical analysis were conducted based on the response from the 502 Korean domestic IT SMEs, using AMOS 18.0 and SPSS 20.0. The results of this empirical study can be summarized as follows. First, core competences (marketing, networking, and technology competence) have positive influence on organizational performance. Second, entrepreneurship and government support have moderating effects in the relationship between core competence and organizational performance. Especially, network and marketing competence appeared to be affected by more entrepreneurship than technology competence. So this paper suggests that when the R&D of SMEs and government support are properly combined, it will directly give an effect on organizational performance. The results of this research can be used for building a better government support policies and strategic planning of small and medium sized domestic IT enterprises.

  • The purpose of the research is to suggest the method to maximize management achievement of the sheltered workshops with analyzing the factors of organizational competencies which affect the business performance. The study was proceeded after suggesting the research model based on discussion on the business performance of Malcolm Baldrige (1987) model which assessed as the most optimized one for evaluation of the business performance of enterprise. First, the organizational competence of the sheltered workshop impact on commercial performance and noncommercial performance meaningfully. The commercial performance affects marketing competence, administrative competence, financial competence in order of mention, and noncommercial performance affects workshop cultural competence, financial competence, leader competence, human resources competence in order of mention. Second, the organizational competence of the sheltered workshop affects comprehensive business performance including commercial and noncommercial, in order of marketing competence, workshop cultural competence, financial competence, and human resource competence.

The Influence of Nurses' Organizational Communication and Self-Leadership on Patient Safety Competence in Comprehensive Nursing Service Units: Focusing on Small and Medium-sized Hospitals (간호⋅간병통합서비스병동 간호사의 조직 내 의사소통과 셀프리더십이 환자안전역량에 미치는 영향: 중소병원을 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the influence of nurses' organizational communication and self-leadership on patient safety competence in comprehensive nursing care units of small and medium-sized hospitals. Methods: A descriptive design was used and self-reported questionnaires were used to collect data from 165 nurses in Seoul from February to March, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression with SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: A mean score of organizational communication was 3.20±0.49, self-leadership 3.58±0.50, and patient safety competency 4.01±0.49 out of 5. A significant positive correlation was found between patient safety competence, organizational communication and self-leadership. Self-leadership and combined ward explained 32% of the variance of patient safety competence (Adjusted R2=.32, p<.001). Conclusion: Patient safety competence in comprehensive nursing care units are associated with self-leadership and organizational communication. Systemic education to improve patient safety competence in small and medium sized hospitals should be implemented to promote organizational communication as well as self-leadership.

The Effect of manager's communication Competency on organizational member's adaptive performance: Focusing on the mediating effect of positive psychological capital

  • This study tried to confirm the mediating effect of positive psychological capital on the relationship between the communication Competence of managers who are recognized as organizational members working in the company and the adaptive performance of the members. To this end, the research hypothesis established through the final 255 data was verified as follows using the SPSS 21.00 and AMOS 21.1 version statistical programs. First, the higher the manager's communication Competence, the higher the positive psychological capital of organizational members. Second, the higher the communication Competence of the manager, the higher the adaptive performance of the members. Third, as the positive psychological capital of organizational members improved, adaptation performance improved. Fourth, positive psychological capital showed a partial mediating effect between the manager's communication Competence and the member's adaptive performance. The results of this study empirically analyzed the relationship between manager's communication Competence and members' positive psychological capital assumption (+) on the improvement of organizational members' adaptive performance ability. This study has the meaning of the most important research in that it provides additional theoretical and practical implications in the face of insufficient research on factors affecting the adaptation performance of organizational members.
