Micro thermoelectric generator has been attractive for the alternative power source to operate the wireless sensor node. In this paper, we designed the column-type micro thermoelectric device and their device characteristics were measured. n-type Bi2Te3 and p-type BiSbTe3 thermoelectric thin films were grown on (001) GaAs substrates by metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) and they were pattemed. The height of thermoelectric film were controlled by the deposition time, temperature and MO-x gas pressure. Seebeck coefficient was measured at room temperature and hole concentration and electrical resistivity of thermoelectric film were also characterized.
Transparent conductive films can serve as a critical component in displays, solar cells, lasers, optical communication devices, and solid state lighting. Carbon nanotube (CNT) based transparent conductive films are fabricated on glass and polymer substrates. CNTs typically exist in form of quasi-crystalline bundles or highly entangled bundles containing tens of individual nanotubes. To achieve full potential, CNTs must be dispersed in a solvent or other organic media. CNTs are acid treated with nitric acid then the stable dispersion of CNTs in polar solvent such as alcohols, DMF, etc. is achieved by sonication. The solubility of CNTs correlates well with the area ratio of the D and G bands from Raman spectrum. Thin films are formed from well dispersed CNT solutions using spray coating method. CNT thin films exhibit a sheet resistance ($R_s$) of nearby $10^3\;{\Omega}/sq$ with a transmittance of around 80% on the visible light range, which is attributed by excellent dispersion and interaction among CNTs, solvents and polymeric binders.
Nowadays, ZnO thin films are investigated as transparent conductive electrodes for use in optoelectronics devices including flat displays, thin films transistors, solar cells because of their unique optical and electrical properties. For the use as transparent conductive electrodes, a film has to have low resistivity, high absorption in the ultra violent light region and high optical transmission in the visible region. Different technologies such as electron beam evaporation, chemical vapor deposition, laser evaporation, DC and RF magnetron sputtering and have been reported to produce thin films of ZnO with adequate performance for applications. However, highly transparent and conductive doped-ZnO thin films deposited by a metal-organic decomposition method have not been reported before. In this work, the effect of dopant concentration, heating treatment and annealing in areducing atmosphere on the structure, morphology, electrical and optical properties of ZnO thin films deposited on glass substrates by a Sol-gel method are investigated.
AZO(Aluminum-doped Zinc Oxide) films are attractive materials as transparent conductive electrode because they are inexpensive, nontoxic and abundant element compared with ITO(Indium Tin Oxide). AZO films have been deposited on glass (corning 1737) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The AZO film was post-annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr with $N_2$ atmosphere. The AZO films were used as an anode contact to fabricate OLEDs(Organic Light Emitting Diodes). OLEDs with $AZO/TPD/Alq_3/Al$ configuration were fabricated by thermal evaporation. We investigated that the electric, structural and optical properties of AZO thin films, which measured using the methods of XRD, SEM, Hall measurement and Spectrophotometer. The current density-voltage and luminescence-voltage properties of devices were studied and compared with ITO devices fabricated under the same conditions.
In order to achieve a high efficient a-Si solar cell, the TCO (transparent conductive oxide) substrates are required to be a low sheet resistivity, a high transparency, and a textured surface with light trapping effect. Recently, a zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film attracts our attention as new coating material having a good transparent and conductive for TCO of solar cells. In this paper the optical properties of $H_2$ post-treated BZO (boron doped ZnO, ZnO:B) thin film are investigated with $O_2$-plasma treatment. The BZO thin films by MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) are investigated and the samples of $H_2$ post-treated BZO thin film are tested with $O_2$-plasma treatment by plasma treatment system with 13.56 MHz as RIE (Reactive Ion Etching) type. We measured the optical properties and surface morphology of BZO thin film with and without $O_2$-plasma treatment. The optical properties such as transmittance, reflectance and haze are measured with integrating sphere and ellipsometer. This result of the BZO thin film with and without $O_2$-plasma treatment is application to the TCO for solar cells.
The polyimide(PI) Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) ultra thin films were prepared by imidizing the PAAS LB films of PMDA and benzidine system with a thermal treatment at $250^{\circ}C$ for 30min, where the PAAS LB films were formed on substrates by using LB technique. The thicknesses of one layer of PAAS and PI LB film that deposited at the surface pressure of 27mN/m were 20.9 and 4A, respectively. At low electric field, ohmic conduction($I^{\propto}$ V) was observed and the calculated electrical conductivity was about $4.23{\times}10^{-15}{\sim}9.81{\times}10^{-15}S/cm$. The dielectric constant of LB film was about 7.0.
We report in this study the synthesis of mixed matrix reverse osmosis membranes by interfacial polymerization (IP) of thin film nanocomposite (TFNC) on porous polysulfone supports (PS). This paper investigates the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) using the sol-gel processing technique and evaluates the performance of mixed matrix membranes reached by these aerogel NPs. Aqueous m-phenyl diamine (MPD) and organic trimesoyl chloride (TMC)-NPs mixture solutions were used in the IP process. The reaction of MPD and TMC at the interface of PS substrates resulted in the formation of the thin film composite (TFC). NPs of ZnO with a size of about 25 nm were used for the fabrication of the TFNC membranes. These membranes were characterized and evaluated in comparison with neat TFC ones. Their performances were evaluated based on the water permeability and salt rejection. Experimental results indicated that the NPs improved membrane performance under optimal concentration of NPs. By changing the content of the filler, better hydrophilicity was obtained; the contact angle was decreased from $74^{\circ}$ to $32^{\circ}$. Also, the permeate water flux was increased from 26 to 49 L/m2.h when the content of NPs is 0.1 (wt.%) with the maintaining of lower salt passage of 1%.
Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been widely used to valorize food waste (FW) because of its ability to convert organic carbon into $CH_4$ and $CO_2$. Korean FW has a high content of fruits and vegetables, and efficient hydrolysis of less biodegradable fibers is critical for its complete stabilization by AD. This study examined the digestates from different anaerobic digesters, namely Rs, Rr, and Rm, as the inocula for the AD of vegetable waste (VW) and cellulose (CL): Rs inoculated with anaerobic sludge from an AD plant, Rr inoculated with rumen fluid, and Rm inoculated with anaerobic sludge and augmented with rumen fluid. A total of six conditions ($3\;inocula{\times}2\;substrates$) were tested in serial subcultures. Biogas yield was higher in the runs inoculated with Rm than in the other runs for both VW (up to 1.10 L/g VS added) and CL (up to 1.05 L/g VS added), and so was biogas production rate. The inocula had different microbial community structures, and both substrate type and inoculum source had a significant effect on the formation and development of microbial community structures in the subcultures. The overall results suggest that the bioaugmentation with rumen microbial consortium has good potential to enhance the anaerobic biodegradability of VW, and thereby can help more efficiently digest high fiber-content Korean FW.
Nano-sized dots have been formed on the buffered metal substrates using the novel approach of the electro-spray deposition, to modulate the substrate surface and induce the columnar defects in REBCO films grown on it. The $BaZrO_3$ precursor solution was synthesized and electro-sprayed out onto the negatively charged substrate surface. Using the electrostatic force, nano-sized dots can be grown and uniformly distributed on the buffered metal substrate. The height of BZO nanodots was observed above the 200nm, which are beneficial to induce the columnar defects onto the BZO as a seed. The density of BZO nanodots was also investigated and ${\sim}7.8/{\mu}m^2$ was obtained. As the deposition distance of electro-spray was shortened there was ${\sim}8times$ increase of density of nanodots. The optimization of process variables in electro-spray deposition are discussed in respect to the superconducting REBCO films processed by the Metal-Organic Deposition with the effective flux pinning properties.
Protein glycosylation, a highly significant and ubiquitous post-translational modification (PTM) in eukaryotic cells, has attracted considerable research interest due to its pivotal role in a wide array of essential biological processes. Conducting a comprehensive analysis of glycoproteins is imperative for understanding glycoprotein bio-functions and identifying glycosylated biomarkers. However, the complexity and heterogeneity of glycan structures, coupled with the low abundance and poor ionization efficiencies of glycopeptides have all contributed to making the analysis and subsequent identification of glycans and glycopeptides much more challenging than any other biopolymers. Nevertheless, the significant advancements in enrichment techniques, chromatographic separation, and mass spectrometric methodologies represent promising avenues for mitigating these challenges. Numerous substrates and multifunctional materials are being designed for glycopeptide enrichment, proving valuable in glycomics and glycoproteomics. Mass spectrometry (MS) is pivotal for probing protein glycosylation, offering sensitivity and structural insight into glycopeptides and glycans. Additionally, enhanced MS-based glycopeptide characterization employs various separation techniques like liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis, and ion mobility. In this review, we highlight recent advances in enrichment methods and MS-based separation techniques for analyzing different types of protein glycosylation. This review also discusses various approaches employed for glycan release that facilitate the investigation of the glycosylation sites of the identified glycoproteins. Furthermore, numerous bioinformatics tools aiding in accurately characterizing glycan and glycopeptides are covered.
