Utilization of Food Sources Before and After the Tsunami in Nuttallia olivacea at Gamo Lagoon, Japan

  • This study was conducted June 2011 at Gamo Lagoon, after tsunami of March 2011, to estimate food sources and utilization. The results show that the tsunami affected the sediment properties by changing the physical environmental alterations. The fatty acids of the gut content of Nuttallia olivacea mostly comprised the same organic matter found in the sediment. Fatty acids in the tissues showed mainly diatoms, bacteria, and dinoflagellates. That is, most of the food sources (i.e., diatoms, bacteria, dinoflagellates, macroalgae, and terrestrial organic matter) probably pass through the digestive system unharmed; however, terrestrial organic matter, which is refractory to biochemical degradation, indicated a different assimilation trend between the gut content and the tissue. This result suggests that input of labile organic matter from the sediment may control selective metabolism in N. olivacea. From these results, although the physical environment of sediment characteristics by tsunami changed, the food utilization of N. olivacea suggested a better assimilation of selected components from the gut content, irrespective of physical alteration.

남한강 지역의 건기 시, 강우 시, 난분해성 유기물질 유출 특성 (Runoff Characteristics of Refractory Organic Matters from South-Han River Watershed during Rainfall Event and Dry Season)

  • In this paper, runoff characteristics of South-Han river watershed in terms of refractory organic matters were investigated. The concentrations of DOC, POC, R-DOC, R-POC in runoff and flow rates were determined by monitoring 27 times in dry season and 4 times in rainy season. The concentrations of the dissolved refractory organic matter, R-DOC was the lowest in fall and similar in the other dry seasons. The particulate refractory organic matter, R-POC showed less fluctuation than R-DOC. In summer, mass loading was the highest than other dry seasons. The concentrations of R-DOC, R-POC were showed to be affected by runoff volume. The mass loading grows higher as runoff volume gets higher.

XAD 수지분획에 의한 용존유기물질 특성 연구 (Study on the characterization of dissolved organic matters by XAD resin fractionation)

  • Changes in the characteristics of dissolved organic matter was studied at selected stations in the Nakdong river basin using physical and chemical methods. Characteristics of dissolved organic matters were analysed and assessed. Production of disinfection byproducts were also investigated. Distribution of the organic compounds according to the Molecular weight(MW) indicate that MWs higher than 100K were highest with cattle excrement wastewater and MW between 100-10K were highest with waters from forest streams. Low MW compounds (Jess than 1K) were highest with the effluents from environmental facilities. Results of resin fractionation study show that acidic hydrophobic substances(AHS) were dominant in many stations. The values were higher in the samples from mainstreams and sidestreams where the influence of organic matter is higher than the water from environmental facilities. Hydrophilic neutral substances(HoN) such as hydrocarbon, pesticides and detergents were higher in the wastewater treatment facilities. HoN values of water from the forest streams were 4.7% indicating there is no synthetic pollutant.

비강우시 한강수계 하천의 연간 난분해성 물질 유출특성 (Runoff Characteristics of Refractory Organic Matters from Han River Basin during Dry Days)

  • 2,600만 수도권 시민들의 식수원인 한강수계의 경우 수질관리를 위해 비점오염원에 대한 관리가 중요하며 특히 비점오염원이 주요 원인인 유기물질 및 난분해성 물질에 대한 조사가 필요하다. 이번 연구에서는 한강 수계의 주요 3개 하천(남한강, 북한강, 경안천)의 연간 비강우시 난분해성 유기물질을 포함한 유기물질의 유출특성을 연구하였다. 연구결과 유기물질 및 난분해성 물질의 경우 용존성 물질의 비율이 높았으며 전체 부하량중 여름철에 대부분의 부하량이 가장 많았다. 각 하천별 유기물질 및 난분해성 물질의 연간 부하량의 경우 유역면적에 비례하여 남한강, 북한강, 경안천 순서로 나타났다. 각 유역 면적 당 부하량 산정결과 TOC의 경우 경안천, 남한강, 북한강 순서로 나타났으며, R-TOC의 경우 비교적 일정한 유출특성을 보였다.

유기질 함량에 따른 고화토의 역학적 특성과 식생발아 특성과의 관계 분석 (A Study of Relationship Between Engineering and Germination Characteristics of Stabilized Soils with Various Organic Contents)

  • 준설토 내 유기물질은 지반침하, 균열, 지지력 저하 및 내부마찰각 감소 등 지반공학적으로 많은 문제를 가지고 있는 반면 농업의 관점에서는 지반 내 유기물질이 함유되어 있을수록 양질의 토사로서 식생의 성장에 크게 기여한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 유기질을 함유한 준설토를 재활용하여 고화토를 제작하였으며, 고화토의 유기질 함량(0 %, 10 %, 20 %, 30 %)에 따른 역학적 특성과 식생발아 특성과의 관계를 분석하였다. 유동성 시험, 일축압축 시험 및 압밀 시험 등 다양한 실내 시험을 통해 고화토의 역학적 특성을 알아보았으며, pH, 발아율 및 초장길이 측정을 통해 식생발아 특성을 알아보았다. 실험 결과 유기물 함량이 증가할수록 일축 압축강도는 감소하고 압축지수 및 팽창지수는 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 식생의 발아율 및 초장길이는 유기물 함량이 증가함에 따라 점차 증가하는 경향을 보였다.

팔당호와 팔당호 상류의 난분해성 유기물질 유출 특성 분석 및 상관성 분석 (Analysis of Non-Biodegradable Organic Matter Leakage Characteristics and Correlation Analysis in Paldang Lake and its Upper Reaches)

  • 수도권에 일 약 8백만톤의 물을 취수하여 공급하는 팔당호는 수질보전정책 시행으로 BOD(Biochemical Oxygen Demand)1.1mg/L를 달성하였으나 난분해성 물질을 포함하는 COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) 항목은 점점 증가하는 양상을 보였다. 난분해성 유기물질의 상수원 유입은 잠재적인 BOD의 증가, 수돗물의 냄새와 맛 유발, THM(Trihalomethane) 발생 증가, 조류 증식을 일으키며 유해 난분해성 미량오염물질이 잔류할 경우 수생 환경에서 내분비 교란과 항생제 내성과 같은 현상을 유발한다. 본 연구에서는 팔당호의 난분해성 유기물질 관리를 위해 팔당호와 팔당호 상류의 점 오염원과 비점오염원의 난분해성 유기물질 유출 농도를 파악하기 위한 모니터링을 실시하였다. 지역별 난분해성 유기물질 유출 농도를 비교하고 하수처리장에서의 제거율을 파악하였다. 또한 피어슨 상관성 분석 기법을 사용해 유기물질 지표와 선행건기일수, 선·선행건기일수간 상관성 분석을 실시하였다. 하천과 팔당호의 난분해성 유기물질 농도는 유사한 양상을 보였다. 하수처리장 유출수는 하천과 팔당호보다는 높은 농도를 보였으며, 유입수와 유출수 농도의 비교 결과 하수처리장에서 난분해성 유기물질 제거율은 65.73%였다. 난분해성 유기물질 유출 농도와 선행건기일수, 선·선행건기일수 사이에서는 유의미한 상관성이 나타나지 않았다. 이는 데이터 부족으로 판단되며 장기적인 모니터링으로 데이터 축적이 필요하다 사료된다.

도심 아파트 단지 화단에 나타나는 매미 약충의 토양 서식처 특성 (Soil Habitat Characteristics of Cicada Nymph in an Urban Apartment Garden)

  • Cicada is a very familiar insect to people but habitat characteristics of them are not well known. To investigate habitat characteristics of cicada nymph, plant species, plant cover, soil hardness, accumulated organic mass, organic content in soil, and root density were investigated at 11 sites in an apartment complex garden in Seoul. Selected sites had different densities of cicada nymph case above the ground. Density of cicada nymph case was positively correlated with accumulated organic mass, organic content in soil, and root density and negatively correlated with soil hardness. Even though shrub coverage was not linearly correlated with the density of cicada nymph case, 80% cover of shrub was necessary for the high density of them. Data in this study suggested that organic matter in addition to root density be the primary limitation factor of cicada nymph and high amount of litter-fall decrease soil hardness through the increase of soil organic matter. This study suggests that the density of cicada nymph can be managed through organic content in soil.

생분해 과정 중 용존 유기물 특성 변화에 미치는 휴믹물질의 영향 (Effects of Humic Substances on the Changes of Dissolved Organic Matter Characteristics by Biodegradation)

  • Characteristics of humic substances on the changes in dissolved organic matter (DOM) characteristics by biodegradation was investigated using three types of the artificial water samples composed of glucose and Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA). Some selected DOM characteristics including the specific UV absorbance (SUVA), the synchronous fluorescence spectra and the molecular weight (MW) were compared for the artificial water samples before and after 28-day microbial incubation. The changes of the DOM characteristics were minimal for SRFA during the incubation whereas they were significant for glucose. SUVA, dissolved organic carbon (DOC)-normalized fluorescence intensity, and MW values of glucose increased, suggesting that such labile organic compounds could be exclusively transformed into more humidified materials by biodegradation. For glucose-SRFA mixture, the selected DOM characteristics were greater than those estimated using the assumption that the individual changes of either glucose or SRFA are conservative for the mixture of the two materials. Our results suggest that the presence of humic substances (HS) may lead to the enhancement of the formation of refractory organic materials during biodegradation of labile compounds. Detailed analyses of size exclusion chromatography (SEC) revealed that the enhancement occurred for the DOM mixture with a MW range between 500 Da to 4000 Da.

서울 공원 토양의 탈수소효소 활성과 물리화학적 특성 (Dehydrogenase Activity and Physico-chemical Characteristics of Park Soils in Seoul)

  • The relationships between microbial activity and disturbance level of soil were investigated from 15 parks in Seoul and undisturbed area. The physico-chemical characteristics of soil and dehydrogenase activity(DHA) as an index of soil microbial activity were analysed. There were ranges of 3.84~7.37 in pH, 9.63~40.33% in moisture content, 3.41~21.49% in organic matter, 0.36~0.79g/g in water holding capacity and 0.03~0.53% in total nitrogen investigated sites. DHA values of soil were 8.64~$146.76{\mu}g/g$ in park soil and 545.14~$1, 198.80{\mu}g/g$ in undisurbed area. DHA of park soil with high traffic density and contamination source from human activities was much lower than that of undisturbed area. DHA was positively correlated with moisture content, organic matter, water holding capacity and total nitrogen.
