  • The fusion of nano technology and information technology is essential to sustain the present growth rate and to induce new industry in this ever-growing information age. Considering Korean industry whose competitiveness lies heavily on information related technologies, this field will be inevitable for future. Nano materials can be described as novel materials whose size of elemental structure has been engineered at the nanometer scale. Materials in the nanometer size range exhibit fundamentally new behavior, as their size falls below the critical length scale associated with any given property. " Bottom-up' techniques involve manipulating individual atoms and molecules. Bottom-up process usually implies controlled or directed self assembly of atoms and molecules into nano structures. It resembles more closely the processes of biology and chemistry, where atoms and molecules come together to create structures such as crystals or living cells. Nano scale sensors are included in the electronics area since the diverse sensing mechanisms are often housed on a semiconductor substrate and usually give rise to an electronic signal. The application of nano technology to the chemical sensors should allow improvements in functionality such as gas sensing. In this presentation, we will discuss about the nano scale information materials and devices fabricated by using the organic/inorganic nano templates.

  • Organic light emitting diode(OLED) is distributed in layers with different refractive index, which leads to total internal reflection and low light extraction efficiency. As a result, light extraction technologies have been investigated that include structures such as MLA. However, technologies such as MLA are using petroleum-based polymers, which cause environmental problems during disposal. Therefore, this study investigates the use of eco-friendly polymers hydroxyethyl cellulose(HEC) and tannic acid(TA) to produce external light extraction films. HEC is biodegradable and has high transparency, making it suitable for eco-friend external light extraction films. The TA used as an additive is a polyphenolic molecule, which is expected to form strong hydrogen bonds with HEC. In addition, TA can protect OLED from damage by UV light through its phenolic groups. HECTA MLA films were produced by dissolving HEC and TA in water without using additional solvents and then imprinting them on MLA mould. When the HECTA MLA film was attached to the outside of the OLED and analysed, it showed a high Haze of more than 80%, and the external quantum efficiency and current efficiency of the OLED were improved by 38% and 39%, respectively, compared to the reference.

  • In this paper, we proposed a simple and high-yield printing process for source and drain electrodes of organic thin film transistor (OTFT). The surface energy of PVP (poly 4-vinylphenol) gate dielectric was decreased from 56 $mJ/m^2$ to 45 $mJ/m^2$ by adding fluoride of 3000ppm into it. Meanwhile the surface energy of source and drain (S/D) electrodes area on the PVP was increased to 87 $mJ/m^2$ by treating the areas, which was patterned by photolithography, with oxygen plasma, maximizing the surface energy difference from the other areas. A conductive polymer, G-PEDOT:PSS, was deposited on the S/D electrode areas by brushing painting process. With such a simple process we could obtain a high yield of above 90 % in $16{\times}16$ arrays of OTFTs. The performance of OTFTs with the fluoride-added PVP was similar to that of OTFTs with the ordinary PVP without fluoride, generating the mobility of 0.1 $cm^2/V.sec$, which was sufficient enough to drive electrophoretic display (EPD) sheet. The EPD panel employing the OTFT-backpane successfully demonstrated to display some patterns on it.

  • In order to protect the solar cells from the moisture and oxygen, we evaluated the electrical and optical properties for the $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ (CIGS) solar cells which were prepared by the spray coating method. Generally, the EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) films are laminated to protect the CIGS flexible solar cells, which results in a high cost process due to complicated devices. In this study, we tried to prepare the protection layers of the flexible CIGS flexible solar cells by using spray coating method instead of conventional laminating films in order to reduce the device weight as well as the process time. The CIGS solar cells with spray coating method showed an enhanced efficiency than the before treated sample (2.77% to 2.93%) and relatively proper water vapor transmission rate of the solar cells about 62.891 gm/[$m^2-day$].

  • The photoreceptor films with double layer structure were prepared by the plasma polymerization and the dip-coating method. The blocking layer was coated with A1$_2$O$_3$ on the Al substrate and the charge generation layer was formed by H$_2$ phthalocyanine (H$_2$Pc). Poly 9-Vinylcarbazole was used as a charge transport layer. H$_2$Pc film prepared by the vacuum evaporation had absorption peaks on 613.6[nm] and 694.8[nm], and H$_2$Pc film prepared by the plasma polymerization had a dull peaks between 600 and 700[nm]. The surface potential of PVCz increased with increasing the applied voltage and the thickness of PVCz. The dark decay characteristic, the light decay time and the residual time increased with increasing the thickness of PVCz. The surface charge of PVCz of 15[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] thickness was 134[nc/$\textrm{cm}^2$] at the surface potential of -600[V] and the charge generation efficiency of H$_2$Pc was 0.034.

  • Single-layer polymer green electroluminescent devices were fabricated with novel material synthesis by using moleculely-dispersed TTA and NIDI into the polymer PC(B79) emitter layer doped with C6 fluorescent dye which has low operating voltage and high quantum efficiency. A EL cell structure of glass substrate/indium-tin-oxide/PC:TTA:NIDI:C6/Ca/Al was employed and compared with various low work function cathode electrodes Ca and Mg metals. By adjusting the concentration of the fluorescent dye C6, low turn-on voltage of 2.4V was obtained, maximum quantum efficiency of 0.52% at 0.08mole% has been improved by about a factor of ~50 times in comparison with the undoped cell. The PL and EL colors can't be turned by changing the concentration of the C6 dopant. PL emission peaking was obtained at 495nm and EL emission peaking at 520nm with FWHM ~70nm

  • Harmful gases which are generated from various rout at growth environment of livestock ban have a direct and indirect bad influence to the livestock and farmers, and also step-up breeding density and long-term exposure to the sealed environment of winter can be fatal. In this paper, we propose a gas measurement system for monitoring gases of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, volatile organic compounds, etc. which arise from the muck. The measurement system consist of both wireless gas sensor node and gas recognition software using a Fuzzy Min-Max neural network. To evaluate the performance of suggested system, gas measurement experiments are performed in laboratory environment by using the designed wireless gas sensor node. And we show the performance through classification test for the target gases by the designed gas recognition software.

  • In this paper, we propose the histogram matching-based power reduction technique considering the perceptual image quality. The conventional methods cannot analyze the clipping error of an image, and hence, they significantly degrade the image quality when pixels with the clipping error are concentrated on small area. The proposed method generates histograms for various images with different characteristics, and it calculates and stores the optimal clipping rate in a database. Then, it compares the histograms with that of an input image, and selects the histogram and clipping rate with the minimum difference to prevent the image quality degradation. In the experimental results, the proposed method improved the average PSNR and SSIM by up to 15.795 dB and 0.036, compared with the conventional methods.

  • Thin film transistors (TFTs) with large-area, high mobility, and high reliability are important factors for next-generation displays. In particular, thin transistors based on IGZO oxide semiconductors are being actively researched for this application. In this study, several methods for improving the reliability of a-IGZO TFTs by applying various materials on a passivation layer are investigated. In the literature, inorganic SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, ZTSO, and organic CYTOP have been used for passivation. In the case of Al2O3, excellent stability is exhibited compared to the non-passivation TFT under the conditions of negative bias illumination stress (NBIS) for 3 wavelengths (R, G, B). When CYTOP passivation, SiO2 passivation, and non-passivation devices were compared under the same positive bias temperature stress (PBTS), the Vth shifts were 2.8 V, 3.3 V, and 4.5 V, respectively. The Vth shifts of TiO2 passivation and non-passivation devices under the same NBTS were -2.2 V and -3.8 V, respectively. It is expected that the presented results will form the basis for further research to improve the reliability of a-IGZO TFT.
