A simple one-pot synthesis of two derivatives of 1,4-dihydropyridines has been described under reflux conditions using copper iodide nanoparticles (CuI NPs) as a catalyst in high yields. This method demonstrated four-component coupling reactions of aldehydes and ammonium acetate via two pathways. In one route, the reaction was performed using 2 eq ethyl acetoacetate while in the other one 1 eq ethyl acetoacetate and 1 eq malononitrile were used. The CuI NPs was reused and recycled without any loss of activity and product yield. It is noteworthy to state that wide range of the 1,4-dihydropyridines have attracted large interest due to pharmacological and biological activities.
An efficient three-component one-step synthesis of 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazoles by condensation reaction of 1,2-diketones or ${\alpha}$-hydroxyketones with aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate using Zinc (II) [tetra (4-methylphenyl)] porphyrin as a novel and reusable catalyst under ultrasound irradiation at ambient temperature is described. In this method, ${\alpha}$-hydroxyketones as well as 1,2-diketones were converted to their corresponding 2,4,5-trisubstituted imidazoles in excellent yields.
To overcome the low reactivity and solubility of alkali metal fluorides (MFs), various types of phase transfer catalysts (PTCs) have been developed over the last decades. However, since the fluoride activated by such PTC sometimes has a strong basicity, it may cause various side reactions such as elimination reaction or hydroxylation reaction in the nucleophilic fluorination reaction. Also, they may cause separation problems in the compound purification process. In recent advanced study, various PTCs have been developed to solve these problem of conventional catalyst. In this review, we would like to introduce three kinds of novel multifunctional organic catalysts such as bis-tert-alcohol-functionalized crown-6-calix[4]arene (BACCA), easy separable pyrene-tagged ionic liquid (PIL) by reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and tri-tert-butanolamine organic catalyst.
The aim of the study is the activity concentration measurements of organic and inorganic 14C in the discharges of JSC "Institute of Nuclear Materials" (INM). In INM the research water-water reactor "IVV-2M" is operating. Collecting of 14C species was performed using a 14C sampler with a chromium oxide and platinum catalysts at different temperatures: 400, 550 and 700 ℃. The measurements of 14C activity were performed using a liquid scintillation counter. The share of organic 14C in emissions ranged from 0.30 to 0.84 and depends on the temperature of the catalyst, core structure and reactor operating mode.
The photodegradation and by-products of the gaseous toluene with $TiO_2$ (P25) and short-wavelength UV ($UV_{254+185nm}$) radiation were studied. The toluene was decomposed and mineralized efficiently owed to the synergistic effect of photochemical oxidation in the gas phase and photocatalytic oxidation on the $TiO_2$ surface. The toluene by the $UV_{254+185nm}$ photoirradiated $TiO_2$ were mainly mineralized $CO_2$ and CO, but some water-soluble organic intermediates were also formed under severe reaction conditions. The ozone and secondary organic aerosol were produced as undesirable by-products. It was found that wet scrubber was useful as post-treatment to remove water-soluble organic intermediates. Excess ozone could be easily removed by means of a $MnO_2$ ozone-decomposition catalyst. It was also observed that the $MnO_2$ catalyst could decompose organic compounds by using oxygen reactive species formed in process of ozone decomposition.
Recently among after-treatment devices which have high possibility of utility diesel oxidation catalyst(DOC) is concerned over the world. DOC oxidizes pollutants by means of activate-reaction during by-passing in the catalyst in doing so conversion efficiency of PM, CO and HC is high and this device does not have an effect on engine performance because back pressure is not nearly increased, But as a small amount of sulfur content in fuel is oxidized it makes sulfate which is absorbed on the surface of catalyst. So in this study the experiment is carried out by means of using ordinary fuel(0.1wt%) and low sulfur fuel(0.05wt%) with DOC and the emission gas of diesel engine is measured.
The catalytic oxidation of benzene, toluene and xylene over a spent industrial catalyst (Pd-based) was investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor system. According to the priming condition, the properties of a spent Pd-based catalyst were characterized by XRD(X-ray diffraction). BET(Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) and ICP(Inductively coupled plasma). When air was used as a primer, optimum priming temperature was found to be 200$^{\circ}C$, and the catalytic activity decreased as the priming temperature increased. When a spent Pd-based catalyst primed with air at 200$^{\circ}C$ was re-treated with hydrogen at 200$^{\circ}C$, 300$^{\circ}C$ or 400$^{\circ}C$, respectively, the catalytic activity increased and thermal effect were negligible. $HNO_3$ aqueous solution priming resulted in slight decrease of the catalytic activity, with little effects on $HNO_3$ concentrations. The activity of a spent Pd-based catalyst with respect to VOC molecule was observed to follow sequence: xylene> toluene> benzene. Benzene. toluene and xylene could be removed to almost 100% by a spent Pd-based catalyst primed with hydrogen.
An EBeam (electron beam)-catalyst coupling technique has been developed to control aromatic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by annexing the catalyst with already existing EBeam technology. In this study, toluene emitted from various industrial coating processes was selected as a representative VOC. The concentration of toluene of concern was 200 ppm. There was an increase in the removal efficieny of toluene by increasing the absorbed dose (kGy) in the EBeam-only and the EBeam-catalyst coupling systems. Compared to EBeam-only system under the same existing EBeam-Pt $1\%$ coupling conditions, EBeam-Pt $1\%$ coupling system revealed 36, 29, 30$\%$ increase in toluene treatmenet at (5, 6.7, 8.7 kGy), respectively. In addition, $O_{3}$ was decreased and CO, $CO_{2}$ were increased by increasing the absorbed dose (kGy) in the EBeam-catalyst (Pt $1\%$, Cu $1\%$) coupling systems. Therefore, it was concluded that the EBeam-catalyst coupling system had a synergy effect on toluene control, compared to the EBeam-only system.
In this investigation, nano ZnO was sonochemically synthesized by a novel method using a methionine precursor. A narrow size distribution (41-50 nm) of nano ZnO was achieved that was immobilized on perlite and applied as a catalyst in catalytic ozonation. The catalyst was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, BET surface area, and field emission scanning electron microscope. The ozonation of recalcitrant Remazol black 5 (RB5) di-azo dye solution by means of the synthesized catalyst was investigated in a bubble column slurry reactor. The influence of pH values (7, 9, 11), catalyst dosage (8, 12, 15, $20g\;L^{-1}$) and reaction time (10, 20, 30, 60 min) was investigated. Although the dye color was completely removed by single ozonation at a higher reaction time, the applied nanocatalyst improved the dye declorination kinetics. Also, the degradation of the hazardous aromatic fraction of the dye was enhanced five-times by catalytic ozonation at a low reaction time (10 min) and a neutral pH. The second-order kinetics was best fitted in terms of both RB5 color and its aromatic fraction removal. The total organic carbon analysis indicated a significant improvement in the mineralization of RB5 by catalytic ozonation using the nano-ZnO/perlite catalyst.
