  • Organic light emitting devices have attracted the attention of many people because of their high potential for self-emission and flexible display devices. However, due to limitations in device efficiency and lifetime, partial commercialization is underway. In this paper, we have investigated the electrical conduction mechanism of the organic light emitting device by the temperature and the thickness of the light emitting layer through the current - voltage characteristics with respect to the conduction mechanism directly affecting the efficiency and lifetime of the organic light emitting device. Through the study, it was found that the conduction in the low electric field region is caused by the movement of the heat excited charge in the ohmic region and the tunneling of the electric charge due to the high electric field in the high electric field region.

  • We present both a theoretical analysis and experimental data to show that electrophosphorescent top-emitting organic light emitting-devices (TOLEDs) with a reflective anode and a transparent cathode can be more efficient than the equivalent state-of-the-art bottom-emitting electrophosphorescent OLEDs (PHOLEDs$^{TM}$). The lifetime of devices with transparent cathodes are shown to approach that of the corresponding bottom-emitting devices.

  • We demonstrate p-doped organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) comprising tungsten oxide ($WO_3$) and 1,4-bis[N-(1-naphthyl)-N'-phenylamino]-4,4' diamine (NPB). We propose the NPB : $WO_3$ composition functions as a p-doping layer which significantly improves hole injection that leads to the fabrication of 4-(dicyano-methylene)-2-methyl-6-(p-dimethylaminos tyryl)-4H-pyrane (DCMl) based p-doped OLEDs with high efficiency and long lifetime.

  • Lifetime study of blue phosphorescent and thermally activated delayed fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes was carried out to understand the dominant degradation process during electrical operation of the devices. Doping concentration dependence of the phosphorescent and thermally activated delayed fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes was studied, which demonstrated long lifetime at low doping concentration in the phosphorescent devices and at high doping concentration in the thermally activated delayed fluorescent devices. Detailed mechanism study of the two devices described that triplet-triplet annihilation is the main degradation process of phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes, whereas triplet-polaron annihilation is the key degradation factor of the thermally activated delayed fluorescent devices.

  • The internal quantum efficiency of organic light emitting devices(OLEDs) using fluorescent organic materials is limited within 25% because of the triplet excitons which can hardly emit light. So there has been considerable interest in finding ways to obtain light emission from triplet excitons. One approach has been to add phosphorescent compounds to one of the layers in OLEDs. Then triplet excitons can transfer to these phosphorescent molecules and emit light. In this study, multilayer OLEDs with phosphorescent emitter, Iridium complexes were prepared. The devices with a structure of ITO/TPD/Ir complex doped in the host material/Alq3/Li:Al/Al were fabricated, and its electrical and optical characteristics were studied. Using various Ir complexes and the host materials, we fabricated several devices and investigated the device characteristics.

  • Development of white light emitting materials has been an interesting area for scientists and scientists have developed many organic, polymer and inorganic materials for white electroluminescent devices. Among them, single component small molecules gave best results in terms of efficiency, simplicity of device fabrication, and CIE values. Therefore, this review covers detailed discussion about syntheses of small compounds used in white organic light emitting devices until 2007.

  • The electrical and the optical properties of blue organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) with a multiple emitting layer (EML) acting as electron and hole trapping layers were investigated. While the luminance efficiency of the OLEDs with a multiple EML was very stable, regardless of variations in the applied voltage.

  • Recent years have brought remarkable developments in white light emitting devices (WLEDs) and white organic light-emitting devices (WOLEDs). However, their efficiency, CIE values, CRI and lifetime are still not ideal. This review covers detailed discussion about syntheses of organometallic complexes, inorganic phosphors and quantum dots used in WLEDs, WOLEDs and their electroluminescent properties until December 2007.

  • High-efficiency white organic light-emitting diodes (WOLEDs) were fabricated with two emissive layers and exciton blocking layer was sandwiched between two phosphorescent dyes which were, bis(3,5-Difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl-(2-carboxypyridyl) iridium III (Flrpic) as blue emission and a newly synthesized red phosphorescent material guest, Bis(5-benzoyl-2-phenylpyridinato-C,N)iridium(III) (acetylacetonate) ((Bzppy)2Ir(III)acac). This exciton blocking layer prevents a triple-triple energy transfer between the two phosphorescent emissive layers with balanced emission of blue and red. The white device showed the Commission Internationale d'Eclairage (CIEx,y) coordinates of (0.34, 0.40) at the maximum luminance of $24100\;cd/m^2$ and maximum luminous efficiency of 22.4 cd/A, respectively.

  • We have demonstrated the optimization of white organic light-emitting diodes with two separated emissive layers using a blue fluorescent and a red phosphorescent dopant. The maximum luminous efficiency of the devices showed 7.93, 9.70, 11.8, and 14.3 cd/A. The $CIE_{xy}$ coordinates also showed (x = 0.33, y = 0.36), (x = 0.33, y = 0.35), (x =0.31, y = 0.35), and (x = 0.29, y = 0.36) at 6V, respectively.
