It is well known that we should take 2L of drinking water per day to maintain our health. The drinking water quality is becoming worse owing to sewage discharge and industrial wastewater. Surface water is polluted by various kinds of contaminants and ground water were known as clean and unpolluted water, but through recent many reports the ground waters are also contaminated by waste disposal and intrusion of organic and bacterial movement. This research was undertaken to make a water index of water contamination by referringcations cations and anions. NH$_{4}$, Fe, Mn, and Pb are chosen as cations and $NO_3$, Cl, and $SO_4$ ions are chosen as anions to make a index, and the following water index was made as the contamination index. (Fe+Mn+Pb)/0.7+$(NH_4+NO_3+Cl+SO_4)$/10.5<6.0 By using ton Chromatography the cations and anions are rapidly analyzed and plotting the analyzed data to the equation, we can easily get the degree of contaminations by avoiding analysis of over 37 water parameters in several days. Of course this index of water contamination is not perfect and detail one, but in case of emergent case or to know the overall trends of contamination, it is convenient to use this index. Among the tested 5 kinds of samples the ground water showed contamination index of 6.87. Authors used the already published healthy index and tasty index and differentiated their degrees in detail.
This study analyzed influence factors and the correlation among pollutants which affect occurrence of leaked pollution based on the long-term runoff flow and water quality investigation results to understand the characteristics of highway rainfall runoff pollution load. According to the result of correlation analysis on TSS (Total Suspended Solid) concentration, anteceded dry days, rainfall intensity, traffic volume and etc. as major influence factors of highway rainfall runoff pollution loads, the correlations were weak or scarce in most items. These results might be attributed that runoff pollutant concentration changes vary severely on changes of rainfall intensity and rainfall duration within rainfall and it is affected by disturbances of vehicles and street cleaning and etc. as characteristics of the highway. While Cu, Fe and Zn which are discharged with high concentrations out of heavy metals showed high correlation with particulate matter, organic matter(COD), nutrient(TN, TP), Ni and Pb showed relatively low correlation in a correlation evaluation by pollutant. Significant correlation with traffic volumes was not shown and TSS concentration even decreased in accordance with increase of the traffic volume. In the comparison with precedent studies, it was considered necessary additional analysis of the effects of rainfall section analysis, road type, disturbances of surface contaminants by vehicles, rainfall and climate conditions, surrounding terrains etc.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the contamination level of micro plastics in Korean mackerel and to investigate the detection method of micro plastics in fish. This study analyzed the detection and composition of micro plastics using natural mackerel and wild mackerel. 30% hydrogen peroxide and surfactant were added to GF/C filter paper in order to detect micro plastics in the sea. If micro plastics are exposed to the ocean for a long time, accumulation of heavy metals in the water will make pollutant bioaccumulation more serious. Microscopic consequences The risk to human health of plastics has already been studied by many researchers and the risks to human health already caused by marine microorganisms and zooplankton are becoming clear. The conclusion of this study is that there is a difference between the length and height of the mackerel when it is cooked from the standpoint of food in terms of practical implications. The conclusion of this study is that the probability of micro-plastic-contaminated mackerel to reach and be consumed by end-consumers is low in academic implications. Residual contaminants adsorbed on micro plastics are absorbed by digestive organs and cause disruption, and further research on micro plastics is needed in the future.

Ultraviolet rays, OH H O radical and $O_3$ produced by the streamer discharge in water are widely used to deactivate microorganisms and remove organic contaminants in water and the dominant factor of these decomposition is the oxidized reaction of hydrogen peroxide and dissolved $O_3$ in water. In this paper, the barrier discharge was used to create plasma in a gas, liquid and solid medium and the electrode with the reactor combined barrier with packed type(BPR) was made as noncontact way against water so that the effect of water characteristic change by the erosion of electrodes exposing in water should be minimized. The active radical and $O_3$ gas generated in plasma region were reacted into the water as electrode so that at the same time a dissolved $O_3$ and hydrogen peroxide were formed in water and The change of pH and conductivity were measured.

Fouling of heat exchangers is generated by water-borne deposits, commonly known as foulants including particulate matter from the air, migrated corrosion produces; silt, clays, and sand suspended in water; organic contaminants; and boron based deposits in plants. The fouling is known to interfere with normal flow characteristics and reduce thermal efficiencies of heat exchangers. This paper describes the fouling analysis technique developed in this study which can analyze the thermal performance for heat exchangers and estimate the future fouling variations. To develop the fouling analysis technique fur heat exchangers, fouling factor was introduced based on the ASME O&M codes and TEMA standards. For the purpose or verifying the fouling analysis technique, the routing analyses were performed for four heat exchangers in several nuclear power plants; two residual heat removal heat exchangers of the residual heat removal system and two component cooling water heat exchangers of the component cooling water system.
Until recently, disposal to landfill has been the most convenient way to deal with the increasing amount of residues the shredding industries produce. But the shortage of such disposal sites and the risk that liquid drained from these waste dusts may pollute ground water have increased the environmental pressures to find more effective solutions. The present study is an alternative approach that suggests identifying waste dusts characteristics and selecting an appropriate binder for hazardous materials to reduce the amount of contaminants (mainly lead) that were leaking into the soil. Investigations on the characteristics of automobiles waste dusts show that these materials are composed mainly of cottons and sponge like substances, plastics, rubber, glasses and gravel, metals, and electric wires. Besides, the percentage in weight of organic (inflammable) materials is about 70% and the lead contamination, which has not a ionic but a particulate nature, is particularly remarkable in cottons and sponge like materials. Binding additives such as K-20 and sodium carbonate were not effective but the addition of 5 % of cement (in weight of the investigated sample) followed by a 3-minute stirring and a 4-hour storage could drastically reduce the run off of lead below the maximum authorized level. No addition of water was necessary in this method.

The paper deals with the numerical analysis of contaminants emission from the material affected by temperature variation in floor heating system. Considering mass transfer and heat transfer theories, a computer program for the analysis of VOCs emission was made. To demonstrate the accuracy of the numerical solution, the prediction results and the measured data were compared. Using this program, emission rates of the materials in the bakeout space and the no bake-out space were compared to estimate the variation of emission rate.
In recent semiconductor manufacturing clean rooms, in order to improve clean room air quality, air washers are used to remove airborne gaseous contaminants such as $NH_3$, SOx and organic gases from the outdoor air introduced into clean room. Meanwhile, there is a large amount of exhaust air from a clean room. From an energy conservation point of view, heat recovery is therefore useful for reducing the outdoor air conditioning load for a clean room. Therefore it is desirable to recover heat from the exhaust air and use it to reheat the outdoor air. In the present study, numerical analysis and experiment was conducted to simulate the amount of energy reduction of exhaust air heat recovery type air washer system. The present numerical results showed good agreement with the results of the experimental data.

Indoor air pollution has become a serious issue, affecting the health and comfort of building occupants. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are among the most common indoor contaminants, and are released from numerous indoor emission sources. Among the VOCs, formaldehyde and toluene are toxic chemicals at low levels and are frequently detected indoors. Exposure to formaldehyde and toluene can irritate sensitive tissue and may increase the risk of cancer. Therefore, monitoring formaldehyde and toluene is critical for the health and comfort of residents. In addition, as human indoor activities can generate VOC gases, analysis of their influence on VOCs is needed. In this study, we compared electronic nose (E-Nose) data for formaldehyde and toluene with E-Nose data for indoor mixture gas with consideration for human indoor activities.

The goals of environmental monitoring are to locate and quantify the significant contamination, estimate the fate and transport, estimate the potential exposure and risks to humans and the environment, and track the performance of various remedial technologies. In this study, ceramic gas sensor system is proposed to enhance the effectiveness of soil vapor extraction (SVE) process by monitoring the effluent gas. SVE is a technique that is widely used to remediate unsaturated soils contaminated with volatile organic contaminants. The sensor response for benzene, toluene, and xylene, the representative effluent gas compositions of SVE process, was evaluated using the proposed sensor system. As a result, it was verified that the response of sensor was increased or decreased very sensitively according to the change of the effluent gas concentration. Besides, the sensor could detect the difference over a wide range of concentration and it was more sensitive in order of xylene, toluene, and benzene. It is expected that this VOC analysis method results in field monitoring costs saying and appropriate immediate action for process control. More detailed experiments are being conducted in our research group.
