  • The critical conditions marking the onset of thermally induced vortices over an inclined iso-thermal plate are investigated using the linear stability theory. The stability equations are simplified by estimating the orders of magnitude of respective terms. The analysis is carried out under the assumption that for the system of large Prandtl numbers temperature disturbances are initiated within the conventional thermal boundary layer of the basic flow. The stability criteria obtained from the present results agree well with those of the existing quasi-parallel flow models. In addition it is found that the critical conditions generate the heat transfer correlation in good agreement with experiments. Therefore, it is suggested that the validity of existing theoretical models will be reexamined.

  • This paper describes the imidization of PAAS(polyamic acid alkylamine salts) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films and the electrical properties of PAAS and polyimide(PI) LB films, The imidization conditons were investigated by TGA(Thermal Gravi-tational Analysis). FT-IR and UV/ visible absorption spectra. A thermal imidiczation was peformed at 300$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The electrical properties of the PAAS and polymide LB films were measured by current-voltate(L-V) characteristics It shows that the electrical condcutivity of PL LB films is about 10 $\^$-15/S/cm which is two orders of magnetiude lower than that of the PAAS LB films A Schottky effect was also observed in both films.

  • The determination of firing order is very significant procedure in initial stage of design for medium speed diesel engine. Generally, the selection of firing order has been accomplished in view of minimum excitation forces condition. In this paper all possible firing orders under the given number of cylinder were considered to decide the optimum. Meanwhile torsional vibration characteristics using the phase vector sum method and minimum excitation force concept were applied. From these results, some superior cases were selected. And then, the torsional vibration response analysis and the resonance characteristics of engine structure were investigated for the final decision.

  • This paper developed 3 flow-shop sequencing heuristic methods: modified RA method, modified RACS method and modified RAES method. These methods modified RA method, RACS method and RAES method developed by D. G. Dannenbring. These methods can easily determine desirable sequence of orders and can improve nx3 flow-shop's productivity and efficiency. The maximum flow-time criterion is selected as the evaluation criterion of flow-shop's efficiency, We evaluated these 6 heuristic methods’ performance. By the evaluation of the result, we can see that the modified methods produce a shorter maximum flow-time than the original methods.

  • A comparative study on the chemical compositions of precipitations from February 1993 to April 1993 in Sungnam city of Kyunggi province, Inchon city, Kangneung city of Kangwon province, and Chongwon-gun of Chungbuk province has been performed. The metal cation and anion concentrations were measured by atomic absorption spectrometer and ion liquid chromatography, respectively. pH/Ion meter and direct nesslerization method were used for the concentration measurements of $H^+$ and $NH^{4+}$ ions, respectively. The quantitative orders of the cation and anion average concentrations, correlation coefficients between the ion concentrations, and pH values are used for chemical analysis on the environmental pollution and pollutant sources in the urban, surburban, seaside, and rural areas of the Korean Peninsula.

  • Due to environmental change in market, delivery satisfaction to customers and reduction of lead time are critical in the make-to-order manufacturing system. A case of production scheduling process restructuring is studied for one company which employed ERP system. Based on the standard module ERP package provided, they modified and added several functions for their specific processes, and implemented it in production scheduling. The ratio of delivery satisfaction has been improved from 51.1% to 60.8%, and manufacturing lead time has been reduced from 43 days to 30 days in average during 10 months. Moreover, they achieved several side effects such as real time production scheduling and workload analysis, information sharing over all departments, and improving flexibility in receiving orders.

  • This paper is concerned with the investigation on the stability and convergence characteristics of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin scheme that is widely being employed for the numerical approximation of parabolic-type partial differential equations. Here, we present the theoretical analysis on its consistency and convergence, and we carry out the numerical experiments to examine the effect of the time-step size △t on the h- and P-convergence rates for various mesh sizes h and approximation orders P. We observed that the optimal convergence rates are achieved only when △t, h and P are chosen such that the total error is not affected by the oscillation behavior. In such case, △t is in linear relation with DOF, and furthermore its size depends on the singularity intensity of problems.

  • The node coloring problem is a problem to color the nodes of a graph using the minimum number of colors possible so that any two adjacent nodes are colored differently. This problem, along with the edge coloring problem, has a variety of practical applications particularly in item loading, resource allocation, exam timetabling, and channel assignment. The node coloring problem is an NP-hard problem, and thus many researchers develop a number of heuristic algorithms. In this paper, we survey and classify those heuristics with the emphasis on how an algorithm orders the nodes and colors the nodes using a determined ordering.

  • This paper presents and analyses the closed-form expression of the average bit error rate (BER) for an asynchronous direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) system with coherent binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme using a maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity over a Rician fading channel. In addition to the average BER, outage probability, and user capacity of system are estimated as performance measures. The results are general enough so that it includes Rayleigh fading and nonfading channel with zero and infinite Rician factor, respectively, as special cases. The effects of various channel models, processing gains, and diversity orders on the system performances are also considered for the typical multipath delay profiles characterized by Rician fading channel.

  • With the advent of inexpensive computing power over the past two decades, applications of Monte Carlo radiation transport techniques have proliferated dramatically. At Los Alamos, the Monte Carlo codes MCNP5 and MCNPX are used routinely on personal computer platforms for radiation shielding analysis and dosimetry calculations. These codes feature a rich palette of variance reduction (VR) techniques. The motivation of VR is to exchange user efficiency for computational efficiency. It has been said that a few hours of user time often reduces computational time by several orders of magnitude. Unfortunately, user time can stretch into the many hours as most VR techniques require significant user experience and intervention for proper optimization. It is the purpose of this paper to outline VR strategies, tested in practice, optimized for several common radiation shielding tasks, with the hope of reducing user setup time for similar problems. A strategy is defined in this context to mean a collection of MCNP radiation transport physics options and VR techniques that work synergistically to optimize a particular shielding task. Examples are offered in the areas of source definition, skyshine, streaming, and transmission.
