Background: This study aimed to investigate allergic rhinitis and the relationship between allergic diseases, such as asthma and allergic rhinitis, and dental caries and periodontal disease using the raw data from third year of the 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Methods: A total of 3,729 subjects aged over 30 years who underwent examination for allergic diseases and an oral health checkup were selected. The data were analyzed using SPSS IBM SPSS ver. 25.0 (IBM Corp., USA). Composite sample cross correlation and composite sample logistic regression analyses were performed using the composite sample general linear model. Results: On examining the socioeconomic characteristics of the subjects suffering from allergic disease and the relationship between allergic disease and oral health, allergic rhinitis was more frequently found in younger subjects with a higher level of education. Periodontal disease and dental caries were more frequent among female, older age groups, lower income earners, and subjects with a lower level of education (p<0.05). On examining the relationship between the oral health characteristics of the subject and allergic diseases and oral health, allergic rhinitis was more common in subjects with a good oral health status perception than those who answered "bad" to the oral health status question. The community periodontal index of treatment needs (CPITN) score was higher in subjects who answered "poor" to the oral health status question, lower frequency of brushing, and higher in subjects using secondary oral hygiene products; the decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index was higher in subjects with a perception of poor oral health status (p<0.05). The DMFT index was high in the asthma group, and the CPITN score was high in the group who answered "no" to allergic rhinitis. Conclusion: There is a relationship between asthma and allergic rhinitis and the DFMT index and CPITN score. Corresponding oral programs for allergic patients need to be developed.

This purpose of study is to develop basic data in improving quality of life along with the enhancement in oral health by evaluate the correlation between perceived oral health status and oral health related symptoms among the Korean soldiers. Questionnaire survey was carried out targeting 263 soldiers. The collected data was performed frequency & percentage, chi-square test and multiple regression analysis. 29.6% of Korean soldiers rated their oral health as poor, 52.9% as fair, and 17.5% as good. According to the regression analysis result of the Symptoms to Perceived Oral Health Status there was statistical significance in 'tooth pain(${\beta}=0.262$)', 'gingival bleeding(${\beta}=0.170$)'. Accordingly, the purpose is to offer an opportunity of motivation that soldiers will have interest in oral health, by carrying out continuously oral health education, and is also to increase knowledge and awareness level on oral health by allowing them to have positive attitude toward oral health.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to examine the influencing factors of oral health-related quality of life in adults. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 300 adults in Seoul and Gyeonggido from June to July, 2015 by convenience sampling method. Except 19 incomplete answers, 281 data were analyzed by t test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS 18.0 program. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, health-related characteristics, whole body dry symptoms and subjective perception of dry mouth. The oral health-related quality of life was measured by Likert five points scale, and a higher score indicated a lower quality of life. Results: The oral health-related quality of life in adult varied by age, systemic diseases, oral health status, missing tooth, stress, decayed tooth, gingival disease. The oral health-related quality of life had positive correlations with the subjective perception of dry mouth and whole body dry symptoms. The subjective perception of dry mouth(${\beta}$=0.245) had the influence on the oral health-related quality of life, oral health status(${\beta}$=-0.209), gingival disease(${\beta}$=-0.151), and decayed tooth(${\beta}$=-0.146) in order. Conclusions: The oral health-related quality of life was closely related to the subjective perception of dry mouth and the oral health status. It is necessary to develop the quality of life improvement programs including oral health prevention and care program in the adults.
Objective: This study was to investigate the relationship between hemoglobin A1c level and self-reported oral health status. Methods: The subjects of this study were 150 diabetic patients (60 male patients and 90 female patients) who went to the internal and family medicine departments of clinic. This study used the questionnaire and NYCOCARD$\square$ READERII to quantify hemoglobin A1c. Results: The proportion of well controlled diabetes subjects was 31.3%. When hemoglobin A1c levels became higher, subjects perceived that there were more decay teeth, bleeding, swollen gums, mobility teeth, and oral disease symptoms. In comparison with the well glycemic control group, poor glycemic control group perceived that the overall oral health status was worse, and had more bleeding teeth, swollen gums and mobility teeth. Conclusion: These results show that hemoglobin A1c level is related to the self-reported oral health status. Therefore, dental professionals should emphasize more the necessity of maintaining the hemoglobin A1c of normal range and monitoring it periodically, and the practice of thorough oral hygiene care in order to promote diabetic patients' oral health.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the convergence factors affecting behavior of oral health improvement perceived by the subjective oral health awareness perception factors in some college students. The questionnaire was conducted from April 10, 2017 to April 30, 2013 for 300 students at S university and the and the 290 final data were used. Oral health knowledge, oral health importance measured by 5-point, oral health status and oral health interest are 11.46, 1.71, 2.78, 2.52 respectively. Significant differences from experience of oral health education for oral health knowledge, oral health importance, oral health interest have been observed. The convergence factors influencing acts of oral health promotion were oral health status(${\beta}=-0.188$) and oral health interest(${\beta}=-0.265$) the higer the oral health status and oral health interest, the better acts of oral health promotion. Therefore, effective oral health education programs should be developed to increase oral health knowledge and interest in oral health and to change behavior and attitude.
The purpose of this study is to explore risk factors affecting the oral health quality of life of non-medical hospital workers. As for the research method, a survey was conducted on 608 workers at hospitals in the metropolitan area from April 20 to July 30, 2021. As research tools, questions related to work loss, oral health status, and oral health quality of life were investigated. For the analysis methods, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA test, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. As a result of controlling exogenous variables, gender(β=0.108), systemic disease(β=0.136), oral health level(β=0.201), and oral health status(β=0.463) were found to have an effect on the quality of life. Initiating regular oral health education for non-medical hospital workers will be of great help to promote oral health and work.
To improve oral hygiene management, the effects of toothbrush training on general oral hygiene based on the simplified oral hygiene index(S-OHI) and degree of knowledge about toothbrushing were examined. Pre-and post-training changes in the S-OHI (lower score = better oral health status) showed a significant decrease in score in all variables (gender, age, marital status, occupation, and level of education).Pre- and post-training changes in the degree of knowledge about toothbrushing showed a significant increase. Negative correlations between the S-OHI, oral health status, and degree of knowledge about toothbrushing and the S-OHI and the Decayed, Missing, Filled (DMF) index (the better the oral cavity environment, the lower the DMF index) were observed. Positive effects of repeated toothbrush training on the maintenance of healthy oral cavity environment and continuous oral health management were observed, as reflected by the correct toothbrushing-related knowledge and skills.
Objectives: I examined the health and oral health status of elderly people living alone compared to elderly people living with their families by using data (2014) from the 6th Two-Year Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Methods: Among 1,454 health survey respondents aged 65 years and over who participated in the 6th Two-Year Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey conducted in 2014, 311 were elderly people living alone and 1,143 were elderly people living with their families. Results: In terms of socio-demographic characteristics, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high especially in women and when the subjects' age, education level, and income level were low. In terms of oral health status, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high when elderly people thought that their subjectively viewed health was poor and the frequency of drinking and exercise was low. In terms of oral health status, the percentage of elderly people living alone was high among elderly people who did not have good oral health in their subjective view and did not get oral examinations for a year and had a lot of difficulty chewing. Conclusions: Family support or additional social support for elderly people who live alone should be considered to promote the healthy lives of elderly people.
The author aims at first securing basic material required for developing and operating proper oral health care education programs though making an investigation into the undergraduates of S College of Education on the actual status of oral health care and perceptions of oral health care education. The obtained results were as follows 1. In the actual status of oral care based on whether or not they have experiences in taking oral health care education, undergraduates with teeth brushing for more than three minutes a time were found to be 25.9% and 15.7% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in the education(pM0.020), and undergraduates with teeth brushing in a circular motion was found to be 64.7% and 51.7% respectively, showing statistically significant differences(pM0.015). 2. In the actual status of preventative oral care according to whether or not they have experiences in taking oral care education, degrees of awareness of the usefulness of dental cleansers among the undergraduates were found to be 37.6% and 21.5% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in the education(pM0.001), undergraduates with experiences in scaling were found to be 51.8% and 34.9% respectively(pM0.002) and undergraduates with experiences in having dental sealants were found to be 26.5% and 16.9%(pM0.031), showing statistically significant differences. 3. In the survey on perceptions of oral health care according to the existence and nonexistence of experiences in oral health care education, it was revealed that the case that they indicated 'the necessity of oral health care education' was 87.1% and 64.0% respectively according to the existence and nonexistence of the experience(pM0.000), and undergraduates intended to 'participate in oral care education for students(at mid and high schools and so on) after being teachers' were 77.6% and 65.7% respectively, showing statistically significant differences(pM0.011). 4. In general characteristics according to awareness of the necessity of cultivating oral health professionals, groups with awareness of the necessity consisted of 31.8% of freshmen and juniors(pM0.001), 55.69b of female undergraduates(pM0.001), 80.8% of non-smokers(pM0.012), 38.9% of large city residents(pM0.002) and 32.3% of undergraduates living in their own houses (pM0.028), showing statistically significant differences.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was investigation of quality and quantity of nutritional intake related oral health status among Korean elders. Methods : The nutrient intake and the dietary quality was evaluated on the basis of the Dietary Reference Intakes For Koreans(KDRIs). Chi-square test for Complex Samples was used to determine the relationship between oral health and inadequate nutrient intake in Korean elders. The complex samples general linear model was used to test difference of average value difference of nutrient intake percentage compared to dietary reference intake(DRI), energy intake rate from three major nutrients, average mean adequacy ratio(MAR) and index of nutritional quality(INQ) related oral health status. Age, sex and total energy intake was compensated for this analysis. PASW 18 was used for statistical analysis. Results : We could found the difference of the nutrient intake and the dietary quality related oral health status among Korean elders. Especially, Nutrient intake percentage and component ratio of protein among energy intake rate from three major nutrient was lower as oral health status became worse. The percentage of subjects with nutritional intakes under showed highest level in worst oral health status. As oral health status became worse, average mean adequacy ratio(MAR) was lower and the number of nutrient of which index of nutritional quality(INQ) was under 1 was more. Conclusions : From the result above, this study clearly shows the level of oral health affecting the inequalities of eating and the food for the people. And the various propose of oral health policies is needed for vulnerable groups who needs solution to solve the problem of inequality of food distribution where intensive distribution of nutrition problem occurred. Sufficient, safe, and a variety of healthy food intake is a fundamental right of our people. And also, to apply this policy in reality, institutional arrangements and organizations, and specific performing system will be needed.
