우리나라 청소년의 수분 섭취에 따른 구강질환 증상 : 2021년 청소년온라인행태조사 자료를 이용한 단면연구 (Water intake and oral disease symptoms in adolescents : a cross-sectional study conducted in Korea in 2021)

  • 연구목적: 물은 신체의 대부분을 구성하는 건강의 필수 인자이며, 적정량의 물 섭취 시 타액 윤활 및 자정작용을 개선하여 치아우식증을 예방할 수 있다. 또한 물 섭취가 부족할 시 가당 음료 섭취 등으로 인한 구강질환을 유발하는 것으로 알려져있다. 이에 본 연구는 물 섭취와 구강질환 증상 사이의 관계를 밝히는 것을 목표로 했다. 연구방법: 2021년 한국에서 실시된 한국청소년위험행태 웹기반 조사(KYRBS)의 데이터를 이용하여 한국청소년의 일일 수분 섭취량과 구강질환 증상의 관계를 확인했다. KYRBS는 질병관리청(KDCA)이 실시하는 전국 단면 조사로, 이번 연구에는 총 54,848명의 참가자가 포함됐다. 연구결과: 교란요인을 보정한 후 로지스틱 회귀분석 결과, 하루에 물을 2컵 미만 마시는 사람에서 하루에 5컵 이상의 물을 마신 사람보다 치아 통증을 더 자주 경험하는 것으로 나타났다(OR: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.01-1.30). 결론: 일일 수분 섭취량이 적은 것은 충치의 증상인 치아 통증과 관련이 있다. 우리 연구 결과는 물 섭취를 늘리면 치아 우식증을 줄일 수 있음을 시사한다. 따라서 적절한 물 섭취는 충치 예방에 도움이 될 수 있다.

Bitter Taste, Rising New Functions and Significance of Extra-oral Expressions

  • Taste is closely related to intake of food. Taste perception is also influenced by type of food ingested, and nutrition and health status. Bitter taste plays an important role in the survival of human and animals to avoid probable toxic and harmful substances. Vertebrate animals recognize bitter taste through type 2 taste receptors (T2Rs). Several T2Rs have been expressed extra-oral such as the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, urogenital tract, brain and immune cells, and parts of their functions are being revealed. This review will discuss physiological roles of T2Rs in relation to innate immunity, secretion and smooth muscle contraction expressed in extra-oral cells and tissues, and we summarize relationships between polymorphisms in T2Rs and general or oral diseases. It is not a coincidence that animals pay much genetic costs for taste and smell during evolution.

다환방향족탄화수소류의 음식물을 통한 섭취량과 혈중농도 (Dietary Intake and Venous Blood Concentration of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Low-level Exposure)

  • Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the blood concentrations and dietary intake for 24-hour food duplicate of low level polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Design: The geometric means of the blood concentrations and dietary intake of 16 PAHs in college student candidates were simply compared with instrumental detection. Methods: The concentrations of 16 PAHs in venous blood and 24-hour food duplicates were analyzed with head-space solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results: Naphthalene, acenaphthylene, pyrene, benz(a)anthracene, chrysene, and acenaphthene among the 16 analyzed PAHs were simultaneously detected both in venous blood and 24-hour food duplicate samples. Conclusion: The main exposure source of the six PAHs is thought to be oral intake from food through low level non-occupational exposure.

우리나라 학령기아동의 칼슘 및 인 섭취와 영구치우식경험과의 관련성 (The correlation of dietary calcium and phosphorus intake with DMFT among Korean schoolchildren)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between dietary calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) intake with DMFT (Decayed Missing Filled Teeth) among Korean schoolchildren. Methods: Data of 1,529 schoolchildren were derived from the Sixth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, which was conducted from 2013 to 2015. Sociodemographic, oral health behavior, and dietary factors were collected as independent variables. The DMFT was used as a dependent variable. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed to identify the correlation between dental caries and the other variables. Results: Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that DMFT was correlated with sex, age, and daily P intake. Conclusions: Adequate intake of phosphorus may have a positive effect in preventing dental caries in schoolchildren. Therefore education on increasing phosphorus intake, including raised awareness through provision of dietary guidelines, will be needed.

Effects of Saccharin Intake on Hippocampal and Cortical Plasticity in Juvenile and Adolescent Rats

  • The sensory system is developed and optimized by experiences given in the early phase of life in association with other regions of the nervous system. To date, many studies have revealed that deprivation of specific sensory experiences can modify the structure and function of the central nervous system; however, the effects of sensory overload remains unclear. Here we studied the effect of overloading the taste sense in the early period of life on the synaptic plasticity of rat hippocampus and somatosensory cortex. We prepared male and female Sprague Dawley rats with ad libitum access to a 0.1% saccharin solution for 2 hrs per day for three weeks after weaning on postnatal day 22. Saccharin consumption was slightly increased in males compared with females; however, saccharin intake did not affect chow intake or weight gain either in male or in female rats. We examined the effect of saccharin-intake on long term potentiation (LTP) formation in hippocampal Schaffer collateral pathway and somatosensory cortex layer IV - II/III pathways in the 6-week old saccharin-fed rats. There was no significant difference in LTP formation in the hippocampus between the control group and saccharin-treated group in both male and female rats. Also in the somatosensory cortex, we did not see a significant difference in LTP among the groups. Therefore, we conclude that saccharin-intake during 3~6 weeks may not affect the development of physiological function of the cortical and hippocampal synapses in rats.

고등학생들의 구강건강행위에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors influencing oral health behaviors in high school students)

  • Objectives : This study was to infectify variable the factors influencing oral health behaviors in high school students. Methods : Data were collected from 241 high school students Busan and Kyungnam Province for four weeks in July 2012. The SPSS 18.0 program was used for data analysis, which included t-test, correlation analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis. Results : Positive correlation in the order of social support(r=.381), self-efficiency(r=.309) with perceived benefit of oral health behavior and social support with total heal index(r=.298) are shown. In the contrary, the relation between social support(r=-.400), subjective oral health status(r=-.222) with impairments of oral health behavior have negative one. Experience in three or more tooth brushing has an effect on social support and subjective oral health status(p<.05). Perceived benefit(p<.001) of oral health life and subjective oral health status(p<.05) are affected by recognition of correct tooth brushing. Intake of harmful food on tooth has an effects on perceived benefit, self-efficiency, total health index and subjective oral health status(p<.05). Conclusions : In conclusion, systematic activation of oral health education in school and correct self-activity of oral health will promote oral health of youth.

진해시 초등학교 교사의 구강보건 인식도에 관한 조사연구 (A study on a survey of recognition level of oral health in elementary-school teachers in Jinhae city)

  • Objectives : It surveyed the recognition level of oral health in class teachers who have influence of students' oral health knowledges and behaviors in our country, developed a program available for supplementing reinforcement in school oral health education, and planned the knowledge contents necessary for school oral health education hereafter. Methods : To arrange the basic data necessary for school oral health program, it carried out questionnaire survey by personal self-administration targeting 460 teachers for 19 elementary schools where are located in Jinhae city from May 7, 2007 to June 13. The following conclusions were obtained. Results : 1. The path of acquiring oral health knowledge was shown the high frequency with 23.9% and 23.3%, respectively, through publicity brochure and dental clinic. As for the opinion about the aim of maintaining dental hygiene, the prevention of dental caries was the highest with 53.7%. 2. The opinion about which the regular visit to the dentist is very effective for preventing dental caries accounted for 56.7%. The opinions about which the limit to sugar intake and the use of dental floss are effective for preventing dental caries accounted for 52.2% and 46.3%, respectively. 3. The opinion about which the fluoridation beverage intake and the sealant are effective for preventing dental caries accounted for 33.9% and 33.0%, respectively. 4. The opinion about which the regular toothbrushing without toothpaste has a little effect and has no effect on preventing dental caries accounted for 42.6% and 38.5%, respectively. Conclusions : The elementary-school age period, which is the most core field out of the whole oral health, is the important period that is formed the basis of lifelong oral health care. It surveyed the recognition level of oral health in class teachers who are in charge of direct health care while making continuous life with students, and developed program available for supplementing reinforcement in school oral health education. Through this, there will be necessity for cultivating ability available for properly managing oral health for the whole life by allowing elementary-school students, who will be led to future adults' oral health, to be formed the attitudes toward the rationally oral health care.

발포비타민을 이용한 구강세정 및 섭취가 구강내 치주질환 유발 세균 감소에 미치는 효과 비교 (Effects of mouth rinsing with foam vitamins and its intake on reduction in oral microorganisms)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to examine the subjects' oral health status and changes in the oral environment after mouthwash with effervescent Vitamin C and its intake and to understand the impact on changes in the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity based on the oral health status and oral environmental condition. Methods: After obtaining approval from the Institutional Review Board of D-University, 45 people (24 in an experimental group and 21 in a control group) who participated in the oral health program were selected, among visitors of the Clinical Dental Hygienics Laboratory of D. University in B. Results: Based on the subjects' periodontal health status, the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity decreased in both experimental and control groups before and after the experiment. However, in the experimental group, it was significant when the Bleeding on Probing(BOP) level was below average, and Calculus index(CAL) was above average, in Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and the red complex. It was also significant when CAL was above average in the orange complex in the control group. Regarding bacterial changes in periodontal diseases based on the subjects' oral environmental condition, there was a significant change in the Adenosine Tri Phosphate (ATP : intraoral contaminants test) test in the oral cavity in A. actinomycetemcomitans and the red complex in the experimental group and in the O'Leary index in the control group. Further, there was a significant change in the orange complex in the ATP test in the experimental group. Conclusions: A comprehensive analysis of the results revealed that the oral health care program for dental hygiene decreased the number of bacteria causing periodontal diseases in the oral cavity in both experimental and control groups.

우식치아수의 관련요인에 대한 연구 (Analysis of Factors Associated with Number of Decayed Tooth)

  • 본 연구는 향후 치아우식증 예방을 예방하고 구강건강을 유지 증진시키는데 필요한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였으며, 김포시 면단위에 소재하는 초등학교 6학년 남 녀 138명을 대상으로 설문지 및 학교 구강검사 결과를 이용하여 우식치아수 및 우식치아수와 관련있는 요인을 조사하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 우식치아가 전혀 없는 경우가 응답자의 37.7%로 가장 많았고, '2-3개' 23.9%, '4개 이상' 21%, '1개'는 17.4%이였다. 2. 최근 1년동안 치과의료기관 방문횟수는 1-2회가 52.2%로 가장 많았고, 23.9%는 1년 동안 치과의료기관을 한번도 방문하지 않았다. 3. 하루 평균 잇솔질 횟수에서 2회는 71.7%였고, 54.3%는 잇솔 외 구강관리용품을 전혀 사용하지 않았으며, 86.9%와 71.3%는 각각 치면열구전색과 불소도포 경험이 전혀 없었고, 66.9%는 현재 사용하고 있는 세치제에 불소 배합여부를 전혀 인식하지 못하고 있었다. 4. 우식치아수와 관련있는 사회 인구학적 요인으로는 모친 연령, 모친 최종학력, 모친 취업여부, 하교 후 돌봐주는 사람이었다(p > 0.05). 5. 우식치아수와 관련있는 구강건강행위 요인으로는 하루 평균 잇솔질 횟수, 잇솔 외 구강관리용품 사용, 불소도포 경험이었다(p > 0.05). 6. 우식치아수와 관련있는 간식섭취요인으로는 치아보호식품과 우식성식품 섭취 횟수였다(p >0.05). 7. 우식치아수와 관련있는 구강건강신념항목은 감수성으로 나타났다(p > 0.05). 8. 회귀분석 결과 모친이 미취업이고, 하루 평균 잇솔질 횟수가 많으며, 치아보호식품 섭취횟수가 많고, 우식성 식품섭취가 적으며, 감수성이 낮을수록 우식치아수가 적은 경향을 보였다. 9. 초등학교 아동들에게 많이 발생되는 치아우식증을 예방하고 조기치료를 하기 위하여 학교 내 구강보건실 설치를 확대하며, 집단 구강검사를 통해 구강병을 초기단계에서 발견하여 치료로 연결시키고, 잇솔질 교습 및 불소용액 양치, 식이조절 등이 추진되어야 할 것이다.

Single- and repeated-dose oral toxicity tests of deep sea water mineral extracts in ICR mice

  • Deep sea water (DSW) is located 100 to 500 m below the sea surface. DSW is widely used in various fields, and is an important source of minerals that can be used to treat mineral deficiency. In the present study, the oral toxicity of DSW-mineral extracts was determined using single-dose and 14-day repeated dose oral toxicity tests in ICR mice. For the single-dose oral toxicity tests, mineral extracts of magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca) at doses of 0, 6, 270, 810, and 1,350 mg/kg, respectively, were orally administered to mice once at the beginning of the experiment, and the mice were observed for 14 days. For the 14-day repeated dose oral toxicity tests, Mg and Ca mineral extracts at doses of 0, 3, 135, 405, 675 mg/kg, respectively, were orally administered to mice daily, and the mice were observed for 14 days. Various tests were performed including visual observation; analysis of relative organ weight, food intake, and organ weight; biochemical analysis, and histopathology. The results indicated that mortality and changes in appearance were not observed among differentially administered groups of male and female ICR mice during the experimental period. Differences in body weight gain, food intake, organ weight, and histopathology parameters were not significant between the control and mineral-administered groups. Some results of the biochemical analyses were significantly different, but showed no specific tendencies. Overall, no evidence of toxicity was observed from the oral administration of DSW extracts of Ca and Mg in ICR mice.
