This study measures the effect of oral health promotion program based on community networking for elementary school students in community child center. The community networking were constructed of community health center, headquarters for community child center and school of dental hygiene in community. First, we were educated the student and teacher of community child center, separately. Community health center planned and evaluated the program, and school of dental hygiene ran the maintenance program once a month for 3 months and evaluated the program. The teacher of community health center were supported and monitored the children. The comparison was done in independent t-test of awareness, knowledge and behavior of children of community child center in both lower grades and upper grades and paired t-test of patient hygiene performance (PHP) index was conducted before and after oral health promotion program. As a result, PHP index and oral health knowledge increased significantly after oral health program in lower grades and upper grades (p<0.001). The positive attitude for oral health about "Whatever I do, my tooth-will be decayed" increased more in upper grades better than lower grades after oral health promotion program (p<0.05). We suggest that oral health program based on community networking should be constructed for oral health promotion of elementary school students in community child center.
The purpose of this study was to examine whether dating affected young people's concern for their looks and their oral health state, and to motivate students to promote their oral health, as national oral health depended on students who would grow into eligible members of society in the near future. Relevant literature and data were reviewed, and a survey was conducted on residents in and around Seoul, who were in their 20s, for approximately three months from June through August 2006 to find out about their oral health status. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Whether they were seeing someone or not was investigated, and it's found that 37.5 percent had a girl friend or boy friend, and that 6.7 percent hadn't. 2. Concerning the state of dating, 40.3 percent, the largest percentage, had been dating for less than a year, and the largest number of them that accounted for 23.6 percent had been dating one person till then, 4.0 percent were considering getting married with those whom they were seeing. The most dominant type of love was eros(romantic or ardent love; 41.7%), followed by stroge(friendly love; 33.3%), and agape(altruistic, devoted love; 12.5%). 3. As for the impact of dating on oral health status, those who were seeing someone were similar to those who weren't in toothbrushing frequency, toothbrushing time and simplified oral hygiene index. There was no significant gap between the two. 4. Concerning the influence of dating on dental-treatment experience, no statistically significant intergroup differences were found in experiences of taking dental-caries treatment, bad-breath treatment and teeth-whitening treatment. There was a statistically significant intergroup gap only in scaling experience(pE0.05). 5. Regarding the impact of dating on oral health care, 59.7 percent of those who were dating thought that it affected oral health care, and the same rate of the others who weren't stood at 38.3 percent. There was a statistically significant gap between the two(pE0.01). 6. As to the influence of general characteristics on oral hygiene index, their age and gender made no statistically significant differences to that. By occupation, however, many of the company employees were in good oral health, and many of them were in bad oral health, too. The office workers were statistically significantly different from the others in that regard(pE0.01).
Objectives: This study aimed at helping oral health prevention of the blind and related management plan, which is defined as the influence factors between missing and filled permanent teeth index and general feature and oral health behavior of the blind in Korea (estimates 229,678 persons) using data of the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2014 Korea Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. Methods: The blind over the age of 30 were selected as study subjects who have conducted health survey and dental inspections in KNHANES VI-2. Estimates of the subjects were 229,67 persons. For analyzing data, general linear models: GLM and covariance analysis were conducted to identify the relation between general feature and oral health behavior and missing and filled permanent teeth index. SPSS 21 statistical program was used, which is possible to conduct complex sampling design, and the significance level was 0.05. Results: The missing and filled permanent teeth index was 8.58 points. Regarding the results of the analysis, R-squared of the missing and filled permanent teeth index depending on general features of the blind was 0.839 points, which shows gender, age, residence, education level, individual income, disability rating, kinds of health insurance, marital status and recipient of basic living had an effect on the missing and filled permanent teeth index. R2 of the missing and filled permanent teeth index depending on oral health form of the blind was 0.728 points, which shows oral examination, dental treatment, smoking and toothbrushing after lunch had an effect on the missing and filled permanent teeth index. Conclusions: With the result of this study, we found the oral health actual condition of the blind in Korea. Therefore, it is considered that the government needs to introduce the personalized oral health education program to maintain oral health of the blind and to develop a program that uses braille and voice device which enables to access and utilize to improve oral health behavior that the government could use it as a reference to establish the policy plan.
This study conducted a 'specialist tooth brushing' method against the severely disabled once every other week. The purpose of this study is to analyze and validate the effectiveness of maintaining healthy periodontal management when consistent oral hygiene lasts with minimum stimuli for 24 - months. The conclusions were as follows. Table 2 compares the difference between group 1 and 2 from the 1st to 11th management and verifies the actual difference in measurement of each index. Group 1 used a professional tooth brush while Group 2 used a general brush. There were found many significant differences in dental index. As for PHP, Oral Malodor index and gingival bleeding, it was found that one or two times of dental care can make substantial differences in dental health condition. These results show that as the number of toothbrush method has been increased, gingival bleeding and periodontal index are significantly improved, not to mention the improvement of gingivitis and periodontal disease. This is because periodontal tissue is affected by brushing method, brushing time and consistency of dental care. During the 6-month period, 20 minutes of active periodontal care was intensively conducted, and for 18-months the effect of consistent care was verified by 10-minute periodontal care once every other week. As a result of the test, it was found that there was no complete regression in the basic periodontal treatment and the periodontal health condition had been maintained for 24 months. Also this test shows that, despite of inconsistent dental hygienic care, regular plague control can prevent dental diseases and maintain the dental health. This study proved that periodontal condition can be maintained by periodontal care once every other week as the tooth brushing properly stimulates the gums with positive effect. Therefore, professional dental healthcareworkers should be designated for each facility for the disabled, and dental health of the disabled should be professionally cared on a regular basis, and consistent and repetitive management by the dental care specialist are required.
The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health status and oral health care of adults using dental clinics and the relationship between their oral health state and oral health care. The subjects in this study were 219 patients who visited dental clinics in Gyeonggi province between February and April 2008. A dental checkup and survey were implemented, and SPSS 12.0 program was utilized to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The DT, MT and FT rates of the respondents who used oral hygiene supplies respectively stood at 30.7, 24.6 and 24.6 percent, which were all low. The gaps between them and the others were statistically significant. The DMFT index of the users of oral hygiene supplies was 12.3, which was high, but the difference between them and the others was not statistically significant. 2. The DT rate of those who got a dental checkup on a regular basis stood at 20.8 percent, which was low. The gap between them and the others was statistically significant. Both the MT and FT rates of the former numbered 28.8 percent, which was low, but the gap between them and the others was statistically insignificant. The DMFT index of the respondents who got a regular dental checkup was 12.8, which was high, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant. 3. The DT and FT rates of respondents who had ever had their teeth scaled respectively stood at 24.6 and 27.1 percent, which were both low, and the differences between them and the others were statistically significant. The MT rate of the former was 27.1 percent, which was low, but the gap between them and the others was statistically insignificant. The DMFT index of those who had ever had their teeth scaled was 12.2, which was high, and the gap between them and the others was statistically significant. The above mentioned findings suggested that there was a very close relationship between oral health care and oral health status. Therefore people in general should be encouraged to pay more attention to their own oral health care, and they should be well informed about how to take care of the oral cavity to promote their oral health.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore relationship among dft index, diet and oral health behavior, parental awareness in oral health care and social status. Methods: This study was conducted from 8 January, 2009 to 11 June, 2009 in Asan city and Seosan city in Chungnam area. 4 kindergratens, 3 preschools and 1 children language academy were randomly selected to research on dft index, diet and oral health behavior. cross-sectional study conducted among 561 valid samples out of 641 samples collected using the survey was and then followed by oral examination. Throughout the research, numerus SPSS 15.0 statistical techniques, T-test and ANOVA and Spearman correlation coefficients were used for analysis. Results: Key results of the study are as follows: Age was found to be statistically very significant to dft index(p=0.036). Age of mother, especially between 30 to 49, was found to be statistically significant to dft index rate(p=0.001). Occupation of father was also found to be statistically significant to dft index(p=0.036). High parental awareness in oral health care led to low dft index rate, which also was found to be statistically significant(p=0.036). Conclusions: In conclusion, as Spearman correlation coefficient demonstrates, occupation of father affects most on long-term healthy oral behavior followed by parental awareness in oral health care and age of mother.

Patients with fixed orthodontic appliances frequently have increased levels of plaque accumulation leading to the possibility of gingivitis or enamel decalcification. Although many methods may be helpful in reducing dental plaque formation, the optimal mechanical removal of plaque is the most important factor during orthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an electric toothbrush (with a specially designed orthodontic brush head) compared to a manual toothbrush in controlling plaque and gingivitis for patients with fixed orthodontic appliances. Oral hygiene status was measured in thirty-four patients using a plaque index, a gingival index and a bleeding index, before and four weeks after the attachment of fixed orthodontic appliances. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: electric and manual toothbrush groups. Oral hygiene instruction was given according to the type of toothbrush used. The Braun Oral-B D9511 with Braun Oral-B Ortho OD 15-1 brush head was used as the electric toothbrush while the Butler G.U.M. 124 was given as the manual toothbrush. After four md eight weeks, oral hygiene status was measured again. Through a comparison between the electric and the manual toothbrush groups, the following results were obtained. 1. All oral hygiene indices showed an increasing tendency after four weeks of fixed orthodontic appliance. 2. All indices presented a decreasing tendency four and eight weeks after oral hygiene instruction. 3. In case of the gingival index and bleeding index, the decreasing tendency did not show a statistically significant difference between the electric and the manual toothbrush groups. 4. The decreasing tendency of plaque index presented a statistically significant difference between the two groups, showing that the electric toothbrush was more effective in terms of oral hygiene. These findings suggest that an electric toothbrush is useful to orthodontic patients with fixed appliances.
Objectives : The purpose of the study is to develop and to evaluate the oral health education program using computer assisted instruction(CAI) for the elementary school students. This study was carried out from November, 2012 to February, 2013. Methods : The subjects were 188 elementary school students of the first, second, and third grades in Buk-gu, Busan. The education was provided as computer assisted instruction and conventional classroom education. Three trained dental hygienists recorded three times of knowledge of oral health, oral health attitude, oral health behaviors and the plaque control index(O'Leary index). Results : CAI group showed high score of oral health knowledge of 6.74 points, 8.62 points and 8.38 points(p<0.01). In oral health attitude, the scores were 7.40 points, 8.01 points, and 7.99 points(p<0.05). In oral health behavior, the scores were 5.47 points, 6.14 points, and 5.61 points(p<0.05). The plaque control index was 22.59 points, 19.69 points, and 21.44 points(p<0.01). Conclusions : CAI education program of this study showed the effective education for the elementary school students. Background: The population of Gangneung City in South Korea has shown a gradual increase in the proportion of individuals aged 65 years and older, and the most frequently reported diseases for several years have consistently been periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis. The regional imbalance in the distribution of dental personnel and resources has emerged as a problem of inequality in the use of dental care. It has been advocated to identify areas with disadvantages in dental care and develop public dental policies based on that. This study aimed to develop a customized oral healthcare program for local seniors based on a Public-Private-Academic Partnership, and to evaluate the oral health status of older adults in Gangneung City. Methods: The participants were residents aged 60 years and above in Gangneung City. A questionnaire including general information, systemic health status, and oral health status was administered to the participants. In addition, oral healthcare and education tailored to each individual's health status were provided once or twice based on their oral health status. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 for descriptive statistical analysis. Results: Among the older adults in Gangneung City, 75% had at least one prosthesis and exhibited symptoms of gingivitis or periodontitis. Additionally, the modified sulcus bleeding index decreased among participants who underwent the program twice. Over 90% of the participants expressed satisfaction with the program. Conclusion: The program appeared to contribute positively to the oral health promotion among local seniors. Further oral healthcare programs should focus on seniors in rural and old urban areas to reduce disparities in oral health across regions.
The purpose of this study was to attempt to lay the foundation for the development of oral health programs geared toward promoting the oral health of low socioeconomic class children. The subjects in this study were 257 school children who used local children's centers. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The children mean scored 5.74 on oral health knowledge. 2. In terms of oral health awareness, 47.1% viewed the right toothbrushing as the best way to stay away from dental caries. 3. 45% of the subjects reported toothbrushing at least three times daily. 21.4% visited dental institutions three or more times in the past year. 33.1% had never undergone application of fluoride. 30.4% had never received oral health education. 4. The mean level of caries was 4.61 dft index in 1-2th grade, 3.27 DMFT index in 5-6th grade, 1.47 DMFT index in the 3-4th grad and 1.19 DMFT index in the 1-2th grade. 5. The mean level of Patient Hygiene Performance (PHP index) was 3.59, and there was no significant association was pound between PHP index and grade. 6. Oral health behavior wasn't affected by their oral health awareness, and knowledge.
