Objectives: Although a few studies have investigated the relationship between kidney and oral function (number of remaining teeth), their results remain inconclusive. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between kidney function and oral health in community-dwelling healthy elderlies and examine the factors associated with kidney function. Materials and Methods: We used cross-sectional data from the Shimane prefecture cohort recruited by the Center for Community-Based Health Research and Education in 2019. We collected clinical data on dental status, background factors and kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate [eGFR], mL/min/1.73 m2 and creatinine levels, mg/dL). Results: The study enrolled 481 participants, whose mean age was 66.7±7.4 years, and 223 (46.4%) participants were men. Multivariate analysis revealed significant correlations between eGFR (B=0.17, P=0.04), creatinine (B=-0.54, P<0.01), and the number of remaining teeth. The number of remaining teeth was associated with creatinine and eGFR, which are indicators of kidney function. Conclusion: This study suggests that preserving the teeth may prevent decline in kidney function. Dental professionals should provide instructions and professional care to reduce the risk of systemic diseases such as kidney dysfunction.
Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the perception and usage of oral hygiene products among patients who visited dental hospitals or clinics. Methods: A questionnaire was provided to a total of 187 patients who visited dental hospitals or clinics in Gyeongnam area. The answers were then statistically analyzed. Results: Interest in oral hygiene (r=0.194, p<0.01) and the subjective perception of oral health (r=0.232, p<0.01) had a significant positive correlation with oral hygiene device awareness. Moreover, this study showed that females (β=-0.185, p<0.05) and those with greater interest in oral health (β=0.156, p<0.05) were more familiar with and used toothbrushes regularly. Finally, this study showed that females (β=-0.459, p<0.001) and those who did not suffer from halitosis (β=-0.215, p<0.01) were more familiar with and used oral hygiene devices regularly. Conclusions: To ensure the proper recognition and use of oral hygiene devices, professional oral health education is necessary. Furthermore, various forms of media should be used to disseminate information on oral hygiene devices.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of subjective systemic health status and health behavior on the oral health-related quality of life through a convergence study. The data collected by a survey on adults living in Busan Metropolitan City were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program. The oral health-related quality of life of the non-smoking group was higher than that of the smoking group, and the oral health-related quality of life was higher in the high group for the subjective systemic health status and health behavior than in the low group. Subjective systemic health status and health behavior both were found to have a positive (+) influence on oral health-related quality of life, and especially the subjective systemic health status had a greater influence. Therefore, as the improvement of oral health-related quality of life is expected through systemic health, it is considered that development of convergence education programs could be an important medium to educate the associated importance of systemic health and oral health.
The purpose of this study was to provide the data for discussion related to oral health promotion policies for the elderly by examining and analyzing the prosthesis conditions and necessity for the fixed and removable dentures among the Korean elderly. The data, obtained from 4,557 elderly aged at 65 or higher who were targeted for the 5th National Health Nutrition Survey, were analyzed through the complex sample frequency analysis, complex sample cross analysis, and complex sample logistic regression analysis. The results of analysis showed significant relevance of whole denture implant and the necessity thereof in older subjects, rural community, and subjects with lower education background, regarding the state of upper jaw/lower jaw prosthesis and the necessity for upper jaw/lower jaw fixed partial denture/whole denture. In addition, the necessity for prosthesis implant was found to have correlation with the income and subjective health condition, while the necessity for artificial teeth(denture) was found to have correlation with the gender, age, education, and subjective oral health condition. Therefore, it is considered necessary to map out the prevention and treatment policies designed to help maintain and promote oral health based on oral health education, along with the policies that aim to recover the neutralized oral health functions, in relation to the oral health of the elderly.
The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health care and self-rated health status of adults visiting dental clinics in the region of Busan and influential factors for their dental fear from January to May, 2017, in an effort to obtain some information on how to relieve fear. As for dental fear, adults who were in their 30s, who were homemakers and whose monthly income ranged from 4 to 4.99 million won. In regard to fear according to oral health care, dental fear caused by the treatment avoidance factor was stronger among the adults who didn't receive dental checkups and who brushed their teeth in the wrong way. Dental fear that was attributed to the physiological reaction factor and the stimuli-inducing factor was severer among the adults who didn't receive dental checkups and who had no scaling experience. Overall fear was severer among the adults who didn't receive dental checkups and who changed their toothbrushes every four or more months. The factors that affected dental fear were self-rated health status, self-rated oral health status, gender, age, whether to receive dental checkups on a regular basis or not, and oral health education experience. Therefore in order to alleviate dental fear, self-rated health status should be improved, and the kind of system that encourages regular dental checkups and provides oral health education should be prepared.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the oral health beliefs of male high school students to their oral health Practices and behavior of male high school students to promote their oral health beliefs and oral health. The subjects in this study were the boys 1, 2 grade who were selected by convenience sampling from three different high schools located in North Jeolla Province. A self-administered survey was conducted from May 20 to June 20, 2010. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Regarding oral health beliefs, the most common oral health belief among the students was to consider it necessary to receive dental treatment as early as possible in case of having any dental disease(4.44), and the least dominant oral health belief was to spend a lot of time talking with others about dental treatment(2.73). 2. As a result of analyzing their oral health beliefs according to general characteristics, religion and experiences of visiting dental clinics made statistically significant differences to oral health beliefs(p<0.05). The students who were in the upper grades outdid their counterparts in oral health practices(p<0.01), and those who were religious excelled the others who weren't in that aspect(p<0.001). 3. As for the links between oral health beliefs and oral health practices, the students scored highest in toothbrushing(3.65), and the students whose oral health beliefs were better were statistically significant different from the others whose oral health beliefs were worse in all the toothbrushing, use of oral hygiene supplies, regular dental clinic visit, dietary control and education/interest(p<0.05, p<0.001).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect subjective symptoms of malocclusion has on the patient's quality of life related to oral health. Methods: A self-administered survey was conducted on adults aged 20 years, with a total of 308 copies of the response sheets analyzed. Results: The degree of subjective symptoms of malocclusion was highest in the group of those in their 20s when looked at across different age groups, and those who had a final education of middle school. In addition, the quality of life related to oral health was the highest in middle school graduates and among those in Gyeonggi province. The degree of malocclusion symptom according to oral health behavior was highest in 1-2 weeks of drinking when smoking in a smoking state, and quality of life related to oral health was higher in smokers than in non-smokers. The greater the subjective symptoms of malocclusion, the lower the quality of life related to oral health. Conclusions: It was found that the subjective symptoms of malocclusion decreased quality of life related to oral health. As such, quality of life related to oral health can be improved through aesthetic and functional improvement efforts to decrease the subjective symptoms of malocclusion.

The dental hygiene students were more concerned about their oral health(p<0.001) and felt more uncomfortable in chewing(p<0.05). The other majors felt more uncomfortable in pronunciation(p<0.01). Conclusions : The results of this study indicated that dental hygiene students strongly recognized the importance of knowledge, motivation, and self-care behaviors, and attitudes towards oral health and dental care compared to other college students. It suggested that regular educational programs for the college student population should be implemented to increase their concern for oral and dental issues and to improve their oral and dental health status.
This study used data from the 15th (2019) Youth Health Behavior Online Survey. A study was conducted to investigate the relationship between oral health behaviors and drink intake and oral symptoms in adolescents. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS/WIN 25.0 program, a software for statistical analysis. Logistic regression analysis using oral symptoms as a dependent variable revealed that gender, school classification, academic performance, dental treatment experience, carbonated beverages, energy drinks, and sweet drink intake were associated with oral symptoms. Based on the above results, consumption of carbonated beverages, energy drinks, and sweet beverages was found to have a negative effect on oral symptoms. In the future, it is thought that oral health education related to drinking intake will be needed by setting guidelines for sugar intake.
