A study on factors affecting the oral health care behavior of mothers for young children (유아기 자녀에 대한 모친의 구강건강관리행위에 영향을 미치는 요인 연구)

  • Objectives : This study were to find out differences in mother's oral health knowledge and oral health care behaviors and to find out factors that affected mothers' oral health care behavior for their young children. Methods : The survey was carried out with questionnaire about personal factor, cognitive factor, psychological factor and behavioral factor to 227 mothers. They had children from 3 to 5 years. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS WIN 12.0. Results : There were statistically significant differences in oral health knowledges as mother's educational background, importance of oral health, experience of oral health education, and oral health locus of control. There were statistically significant differences in mother's oral health care behaviors as mother's job, interest of oral health, importance of oral health, experience of oral health education, and oral health locus of control. And mother' oral health care behavior for herself, interest of oral health, and oral health locus of control were found as important variables in mothers's oral health care behavior for their children. Conclusions : Mother's oral health care behavior for herself was the powerful factor that affected mother's oral health care behavior for her children.

Impact of chronic disease on oral health behavior (만성질환이 구강건강 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of chronic disease on oral health behavior. Methods: The subjects were 317 adults over 30-years old living in urban and rural areas. They were selected by convenience sampling method and filled out the self-reported questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, dental treatment, chronic disease, and oral health behavior including oral health self-care behavior and professional oral health care. Results: The self-care oral health behavior and the professional oral health care had a negative correlation with the chronic diseases. Especially, the self-care oral health behavior and the professional oral health care had a statistically significant negative correlation with hypertension and osteoporosis. Multiple regression analysis was performed after including general characteristics, dental treatment, chronic disease. Meanwhile the presence of chronic disease had a significant influence on the self-care oral health behavior and the professional oral health care. Hypertension and Osteoporosis were the most influential factors of chronic diseases and had a significant influence on the oral health behavior. In conclusion, the chronic diseases aggravated the oral health behavior practice. Conclusions: presence of chronic disease affects oral health behavior. Therefore, the effective intervention and education programs related to oral health care are necessary to enhance adult's oral health behavior and total health. The continuous follow-up study will determine the causal relationship between oral health behavior and the presence of chronic disease.

Relations Between Mothers, Oral Health Knowledge And Behavior And Their Children’s Oral Health Behavior (어머니의 구강보건지식 및 행동과 학생의 구강보건행태의 관련성)

  • Purpose:The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between mothers' oral health knowledge level and oral health behavior and their children,s oral health behavior. Methods:The subjects in this study were 980 mothers and their children of fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade in an elementary school in Daegu city, Korea. The data were collected by a structured questionnaire from 26 June to 30 June, 2006. Collected data were analyzed into frequency, One-Way ANOVA, T-test, and correlation analysis using SPSS 10.0 program. Results:First, the mothers, oral health knowledge was significantly associated with their children,s perception of benefit, seriousness and barrier. Second, the mothers, oral health behavior was significantly associated with their children,s frequency of toothbrushing and visiting at dental care facility. Third, the mothers, toothbrushing frequency was significantly associated with their children,s toothbrushing frequency. Fourth, the mother's visiting at dental care facility were significantly associated with their children's visiting at dental care facility. Conclusion:The mothers, oral health knowledge was significantly associated with oral health belief of their children and the mothers, oral health behavior was significantly associated with oral health behavior of their children. Consequently it was necessary to encourage mothers and their children to take part in oral health education programs and oral health projects.

Using oral hygiene aids to living in a residential home, according to the respondents from the two was significant association (p<0.05), oral hygiene, tooth brushing behavior and the use of aids in the relevance of the educational experience, depending on how brushing brushing, depending on how experienced oral there was significant association with the use products, dental products, depending on the path of tooth brushing training methods used were relevant and significant, depending on the state of your oral health, dental supplies used was associated with a significant (p<0.05).

The Effect of Oral Environment and Self-care Behavior on Oral Health-related Quality of Life in the Elderly with Diabetes (당뇨병노인의 구강환경과 자가간호행위가 구강건강관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influencing factors of oral environment and self-care behavior on the oral health-related quality of life in the elderly with diabetes. Methods: The participants were 110 elderly patients with diabetes and follow-up care on their outpatient clinic in D and G city. Data were collected September-December 2018, using questionnaires of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-49) and Kim's Self-care Behavior, measuring with the tooth-pick (Premiers Dental), Halitosis Checker (HC-212M), and Moisture Checker for Mucus (MCM) for oral environments. The data were analyzed the by independent t-test, oneway ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using an IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 Program. Results: There was positive correlation between oral health-related quality of life and self-care behavior (r= .61, p< .001), negative correlations among halitosis (r = -.34, p< .001), gingival index (r = -.31, p= .001) and plaque index (r = -.32, p= .001). Self-care behavior (β= .46, p< .001), subjective health status (good) (β= .23, p= .002), halitosis (β= -.16, p= .030), and plaque index (β= -.15, p= .041) explained 46.0% of the variance in the oral health-related quality of life. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop nursing care for elderly patients with diabetes that can enhance the self-care behavior and subjective health status, and lower halitosis and plaque index, the factors influencing the oral health-related quality of life in elderly patients with diabetes.

The characteristics of heterosexuality of unmarried adults and factors affecting oral health behavior and concern (미혼성인의 이성교제 특성과 구강건강행위 및 관심에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to contribute to providing more effective basic data for adults 'oral health management in their future. Methods: The study investigated factors that influence oral health care and oral health behavior depending on the heterosexual status for about one month from Aug. of 2017 on 20 unmarried adults living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Statistical analysis of the collected data was performed using the SPSS WIN 21.0 statistical program. Results: The factors affecting the oral health behavior were high (p<0.001) while oral hygiene products (p<0.05) and interdental toothbrush (p<0.05) were found to have a positive effect on oral health behavior. However, it was found that the times of brushing were less than three (p<0.05) and the time for brushing was two minutes (p<0.05), which negatively affects oral health behavior. The concern of oral health was high (p<0.001), whiledental hygiene products (p<0.05), interdental toothbrush (p<0.05) and mouth saliva (p<0.05) were found to have positive effects on oral health care. Conclusions:Based on the results above, it was found that the concern and the behavior of oral health increased depending on the heterosexual status. The reason for this is that the motivation for oral care is more likely to be induced to make oneself attractive by making a resignation. Therefore, in order to promote oral health care and oral health activities, it is necessary to precede the motivation.

The correlations among oral health education experience, oral health behavior, self-efficacy and subjective oral health level of elderly in some area (일부지역 노인의 구강보건교육 경험과 구강건강행위, 구강건강관리 자기효능감 및 주관적 구강건강수준과의 관련성)

  • Objectives: This study was intended to provide resources for the development and operation of the elderly's oral health education programs by comparing the difference of oral health behavior, oral health care self-efficacy and oral health levels according to their oral health education experiences and by researching the correlation of oral Health Behavior, self-efficacy, subjective oral health level and oral health education experience. Methods: An interview survey using structured questionaries was done on 180 senior citizens older than 65 years old residing in some areas of Gyeonggi-do from April 19 to May 25, 2018. The data was analyzed with Chi-square, t-test, spearman correlation coefficient with the use of SPSS 20.0. Results: 1. Those who are older than 75 years old and have higher levels of education and finance have more experiences of oral health education. 2. Those who have experiences of oral health education brush their teeth more than three times a day, use more oral health care items and get more regular preventive treatments such as oral examination and scaling. 3. As they has experiences of oral health education, their oral health behaviors, oral health care self-efficacy(tooth care, dietary control, regular checkup) and subjective oral health levels are high. Conclusion: It is necessary to try to improve the elderly's oral health levels by motivating the importance of oral health care and changing their oral health behaviors positively with the implement of oral health education on the elderly. Especially, oral health education programs that are operated on the elderly should be planned with practical programs that can cause the change of their oral health behaviors and should be processed to reinforce oral health care self-efficacy. Furthermore, preventive treatments for the elderly such as oral health education, oral examination and scaling should be implemented systematically and continuously by policy.

Relationship between BMI, oral health behavior and perceived oral symptoms among child care teachers (보육교사에서 구강건강행동 및 구강자각증상과 BMI의 연관성)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to analyze relationship between body mass index(BMI), oral health behavior, and perceived oral symptoms among child care teachers. Methods : The subjects were 310 child care teachers who worked in child care centers in Jeollabukdo Province, Korea. A cross tab analysis and a multiple regression analysis were conducted to find a possible relationship between oral health behavior, oral symptoms and BMI. Results : BMI in child care teachers was 35.1% and male and married teachers had higher BMI. Higher BMI revealed perceived periodontal disease in smokers. Higher BMI was closely related to perceived xerostomia and halitosis. Conclusions : BMI is a very important index to develop health improvement and obesity control.

A Study on the Oral Health Literacy and Related Factors of Mother's in Some Areas

  • Background: This study aims to provide basic data for development of the level-based oral health care program depending on the mother's oral health literacy by finding out how mother's oral health literacy can effect on the preschool children's oral health and behavior. Methods: The survey was conducted on 192 mothers who have preschool children and the data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, multiple regression analysis to identify differences in verbal and functional oral health literacy. Results: The study showed statistical significance (p<0.05) in educational level depending on differences in verbal and functional oral health literacy by sociodemographic factor. In differences in verbal and functional literacy depending on experience of education for oral health behavior and oral health, statistical significance (p<0.05) was showed highly on verbal and functional literacy in the case that subjects have an experience of education for oral health and their children have not been experienced of oral illness. And when it comes to the case that subjects have experience of education for oral health within one to two years, statistical significance was showed highly on verbal literacy. It showed that verbal and functional oral health literacy effects to oral health care behavior of children judging from results that the higher level of mother's verbal oral health literacy, the higher score of children's oral health knowledge, attitude and behavior. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop the systematic program which is appropriate for characteristics of each oral period in childhood depending on level of primary caregiver's oral health literacy, and systematic education should be preceded to enhance the literacy of the caregiver. It is considered necessary to improve the oral health care of children by developing a manual for oral health care education to enhance primary caregiver's oral health literacy.

Effect of Standardized Oral Health Care Program by Dental Hygiene School Students (표준화된 치위생학과 계속구강건강관리 프로그램의 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of standardized oral health care program by dental hygiene school students. Target population was 100 University students who attended standardized oral health care program by a dental hygiene school students. Present study was conducted during first and second semester in 2011 at E dental hygiene school. We analysed students' oral health related knowledge, attitude, behavior, and self-oral hygiene care ability after the program. Univariate analysis, Chi-square test and paired t-test were conducted using SAS version 9.2. University students' who attended standardized oral health care program by dental hygiene school students oral health related knowledge, attitude, behavior, and self oral-hygiene care ability were significantly improved whether they have attended oral health related lectures or not(p<.05). It is recommended provide standardized oral health care program to university students by dental hygiene school students to promote their oral health related knowledge, attitude, behavior, and self-oral hygiene care ability.
