  • Purpose: To investigate blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light of blue light blocking lens according to light source, and to study prescriptions for blue light blocking lens Methods: UV-VIS spectrophotometer was used for blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light according to light source, and the percentage of blue light in solar light was used to evaluate the prescription for blue light blocking lens. Results: The blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light of each lens were depending on light sources. Through the way to compare the percentages of blue light in the visible light passing through the lens with that in solar light, blue light blocking lenses suitable to each light source could been selected. Conclusions: In the prescription for blue light blocking lens, inquiry for user's display must be preceded. And then the percentages of blue light in the visible light passing through the lens based on that in solar light may be useful as a method of evaluating the prescription for blue light blocking lens.

  • Purpose: In this study, nutrient intake during the adolescent period is a critical time for the development of the vision. Therefore we analyzed the relationship between the obesity index and the refractive power. Methods: We used the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010 document. The obesity index is classified as Broca index (less than 80.0% is low weight, 80 to 89.9% is underweight, 90.0 to 109.9% is normal, overweight is from 110.0 to 119.9%, 120.0% or more is obesity) and body mass index (BMI)(less than 18.5 is underweight, 18.6~22.9 is normal, 23.0 to 24.9 is overweight, and obesity is higher than 25.0). We analyzed correlation with the body mass index and refractive error in adolescent. Results: As shown in the statistics, according to Broca index and body mass index (BMI), the refractive power and the obesity index showed a statistically significant correlation in the ages 15 to 18. Under weight subjects are ingested 43.84% dietary fiber, vitamin C 56.55%, 35.20% iron, 31.84% of, and 38.03% potassium less than the average food intake by the standard group. Conclusions: Moderate weight with a broad variety of taking nutrition and good eating habits seems to have an effect to the good growth and the good vision.

  • We evaluate the impact of near work has on myopia and how they differ across generation. The study subjects were 201(83 males and 118 females) adults who live in Cheongju and Daejeon. Myopia was defined as more than or equal to (-)2.50D. The subjects were divided myopic and control group. The surveys and eye tests that are related to near work and refractive error were conducted and the relationship between the degree of myopia and near work was investigated. Then, the groups were divided into people in their 20s and 30s and the comparisons were made again. The survey results showed significant differences between myopic and control groups that depended on: hours spent in school and outdoor activities during high school period, degree of refractive error caused by level of exercises during the junior high school and high school years, refractive error based on the type of high schools, also hours spent in school and outdoor activities. When the same question was done on the group in their 20s and 30s, there was a different outcome in trends between the groups and refractive error depending on whether they exercised. The degree of near work is one of the environmental risk factors that affect myopia and must be considered when studying myopic progression. However, when discussing specific behavioral patterns in relations to myopia prevention, culture and visual environment of a given generation must also be considered.

  • At this study, we select five colorful and high-acid fruits: grape, lemon, orange, grapefruit and kiwi, and we made a composite resin specimen and dipped into fruit juice in order to figure out influence that affects on surface corrosion and coloring. We dipped resin specimen into fruit juice by three-day and seven-day interval at $37^{\circ}C$. Control group used the resin that was not dipped into fruit juice. For surface change according to the time, it was observed by using scanning electron microscopy, and it was measured by using spectrophotometer for change of coloring degree. As a result of surface change of resin by using scanning electron microscopy, furrow size between surface particles increased, and rectangular rod-shape structure was emerged, and small prominent particles on bumps disappeared. As a result of coloring degree of resin by measuring spectrophotometer, a difference between experimental group appears with the darkest brightness in the case where it is dipped into grape extracts.

  • The aim of study was to provide the preliminary data to find out characteristics of the difference between both refractive errors through analysis of ocular components variation. We measured spherical equivalent power and corneal radius with KR-8800, and axial length and anterior chamber depth with IOL Master, and the difference of measuring values between the right eye and left eye was applied as the absolute values in 100 adults aged 20~59 years. In all participants, the most common results showed that spherical equivalent power was $-1.83{\pm}2.17D$, axial length was 23.00~24.99mm, corneal radius was 7.50~7.89mm, and anterior chamber depth was 3.60~4.09mm. There are significant correlations between both eyes in axial length and anterior chamber depth with the difference of both spherical equivalent power. The difference of both axial lengths was the biggest with the difference of both refractive errors, and shown the highest correlation. The convergence complex study through classification by aspects is needed since the difference of both refractive errors is closely related with ocular components variation, and poor visual function would be caused by the difference of both refractive errors.

  • The hydrophilic ophthalmic lens with addition of 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), hydroxypropyl methacrylate (HPMA) and Ag nanoparticles were manufactured. And also, the cross-linker ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and the initiator azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) were used for polymerization. The polymerization of the hydrogel lens material was conducted through thermal polymerization in 100 ℃ for 1h. The optical and physical characteristics of hydrogel lens were evaluated by measuring water content, refractive index and optical transmittance. The water content of sample containing HEA, HEMA and HPMA was in the average of 82.12%, 37.06% and 21.57%, respectively. And also, refractive index of the sample containing HEA, HEMA and HPMA was in the average of 1.3540, 1.4330 and 1.4649, respectively. In case of the optical properties of the sample, the results showed that the near-UV transmittance was 82.67%, 80.32% and 79.83%, and the visible transmittance was 89.72%, 88.24% and 86.89%, respectively. And also, optical transmittance of the sample containing Ag nanoparticles showed that the near-UV transmittance of 10.59% and visible transmittance of 43.74% were obtained. From the results, the molecular length influenced on the water content and refractive index of the polymerized material.

  • Purpose: The accuracy for measuring the refractive power of hydrogel contact lenses by spectacle lens holder and contact lens holder was evaluated. The accuracy for each sample was also analyzed with water content and diopter categories. Methods: The hydrogel contact lenses used for measurement were classified into three categories in water content (38%, 43%, 58%). Also, three diopter categories of refractive power were used such as -3.000 D, -7.000 D, -10.000 D. And also, the reliability of measurement results were evaluated by measuring refractive power with spectacle lens holder and contact lens holder using an Manual lensmeter. Results: In case of spectacle lens holder method, the average value of refractive power was -3.3273D for -3.0000 D, -7.1306 D for -7.0000 D and -10.2944 D for -10.0000 D, respectively. In case of contact lens holder method, the average value of refractive power was -3.1060 D for -3.0000 D, -7.0028 D for -7.0000 D and -10.2611 D for -10.0000 D, respectively. In measurement of all diopters, the accuracy of contact lens holder method was better than spectacle lens holder method. Conclusions: From these results, it is judged that the refractive power of soft contact lens by manual lensmeter with contact lens holder have a higher accuracy than spectacle lens holder.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the corneal topographical changes associated with the wearing of everted silicone hydrogel soft lenses. Methods: The shape and fluorescein pattern of everted silicone hydrogel lenses were investigated. The subject wore the silicone hydrogel everted lenses overnight for 8 hours. Objective refractive error and corneal shape were evaluated at baseline, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 days after lens wearing and 1,2,3, and 4 days after discontinuation of lens wear. Results: The Fluorescein pattern of everted silicone hydrogel lenses was similar to the reverse geometry lenses with pressure profile. Objective refractive error(sphere power) and corneal refractive power were decreased and corneal shape had changed during the everted silicone hydrogel lenses wear and recovered during the 4 days of discontinuation. Subject experienced no discomfort associated with the everted silicone hydrogel lenses. Conclusions: It appears that everted silicone hydrogel lenses are capable of inducing significant changes in corneal topography, with overnight wear. Further study must be done to help understand these changes to develop a predictable and effective way of using soft contact lenses for corneal reshaping.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to research any effect on vision protecting or decreasing VDT syndrome of extracted anthocyanine from fermented purple sweet potato and blueberry. Methods: Subjects were aged 19-20 years old who do not have ophthalmic and systemic diseases and over -N4.00 D of refraction error. 40 mg of extracted anthocyanine from fermented purple sweet potato, from blueberry, and control group, placebo were dosed at separate try. After 2 hours later, subjects were directed perform visual display terminal (VDT) work for 2 hours. Objective refractive error was measured before dosing anthocyanine and after VDT work for 2 hours. Degree of head ache, eye pain and strain and subjective symptoms of neck, shoulder and waist was also examined through interviews by dividing its degree into severe, moderate, slight or none. Results: After 2 hours VDT work, vision protection effect in terms of refractive error for dominant eye was decreased by $0.031{\pm}0.21$ D in the group of extracted anthocyanine from fermented purple sweet potato, $0.006{\pm}0.32$ D in the group of extracted anthocyanine from blueberry. However, there was significantly myopic progression in the placebo group by $0.144{\pm}0.28$ D (t=2.27, p=0.03). Conclusions: It is considered that extracted anthocyanine from fermented purple sweet potato inhibits increase of refraction anomalies of dominant eye rather than non-dominant eye after VDT work.
