An experimental study of absorption phenomena of water vapor into LiBr solution was carried out to find out the optimum solution flow rate. The staggered bundle of horizontal absorption tubes, which are the same configuration as the commercial heat pump, were tested. The results showed that the heat transfer and absorption rate were enhanced with the increase of LiBr solution flow rate. Those values for different absorber pressures showed the same qualitative trends. The optimum flow rate of solution was obtained as three times of the designed flow rate.
The simulated dyes solution containing Basic Red 46(BR 46), Yellow 21(Y 21), and Maxilon Blue 30(MB 30) were electrochemically oxidized using carbon fiber as an anode. The electrolyses were performed in a electrolytic flow cell constructed by Vycor glass tube. The carbon fiber was positioned in the inside of Vycor glass tube and platinum wire coiled around outside of tube as a cathode. Several operating variables, such as current, time, pH and flow rate of solution were studied. Increasing current density would lead to a corresponding increase in the dye removal efficiency 99.2 % at a 200 mA. The electrolyses time could also improve and removal efficiency was about 99 % after 1.5 hours of electrolyses. The removal efficiency was increased with the increase of flow rate of solution and optimum flow rate was 5 mL/min. THe pHs of solution affect the removal efficiency. The removal efficiency was decreased with the increase of pH of solution and optimum pH was 5.05 (0.1 M $KNO_3$).
The removal of non-aqueous phase liquids (NAPLs) from groundwater using pure water, via pump and treat, is quite ineffective due to their low solubility and hydrophobicity. Therefore, the objectives of pilot tests were to select potentially suitable surfactants that solubilize tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and trichloroethylene (TCE) present as contaminants and to evaluate the optimal range of process parameters that can increase the removal efficiency in surfactant-enhanced soil flushing (SESF). Used experimental method for surfactant selection was batch experiments. The surfactant solution parameters for SESF pilot tests were surfactant solution concentration, surfactant solution pH, and the flow rate of surfactant solution in the SESF pilot system. Based on the batch experiments for surfactant selection, DOSL (an anionic surfactant) was selected as a suitable surfactant that solubilizes PCE and TCE present as contaminants. The highest recovery (95%) of the contaminants was obtained using a DOSL surfactant in the batch experiments. The pilot test results revealed that the optimum conditions were achieved with a surfactant solution concentration of 4% (v/v), a surfactant solution pH of 7.5, and a flow rate of 30 L/min of surfactant solution (Lee and Woo, 2015). The maximum removal of contaminants (89%) was obtained when optimum conditions were simultaneously met in pilot-scale SESF operations. These results confirm the viability of SESF for treating PCE and TCE-contaminated groundwater.
In the present study, an evaporative generation process of ammonia-water solution film on the vertical plate was analysed. For the utilization of waste heat, hot water of low temperature was used as the heat source. The continuity, momentum, energy and diffusion equations for the solution film and vapor mixture were formulated in integral forms and solved numerically. Counter-current solution-vapor flow resulted in the refrigerant vapor of the higher ammonia concentration than that of co-current flow. Eve the rectification of refrigerant vapor was observed near the inlet of solution film in counter-current flow. For the optimum operation of generator using hot water, numerical experiments, based on the heat exchange and generation efficiencies. revealed the inter-relationships among the Reynolds number of the solution film and hot water, and the length of generator. Enhancement of heat and mass transport in the solution film was found to be very effective for the improvement of generation performance, especially at high solution flow rate.
An algorithm is proposed to seek a local optimal solution of the network utility maximization problem in a wireless mesh network, where the architecture being considered is an infrastructure/backbone wireless mesh network. The objective is to achieve proportional fairness amongst the end-to-end flows in wireless mesh networks. In order to establish the communication constraints of the flow rates in the network utility maximization problem, we have presented necessary and sufficient conditions for the achievability of the flow rates. Since wireless mesh networks are generally considered as a type of ad hoc networks, similarly as in wireless multi-hop network, the network utility maximization problem in wireless mesh network is a nonlinear nonconvex programming problem. Besides, the gateway/bridge functionalities in mesh routers enable the integration of wireless mesh networks with various existing wireless networks. Thus, the rate optimization problem in wireless mesh networks is more complex than in wireless multi-hop networks.

The optimum design problem of a coat-hanger die is solved by the inverse formulation. The flow in the die is analyzed using three-dimensional model. The new model for the manifold geometry is developed for the inverse formulation. The inverse problem for the optimum die geometry is formed as the optimization problem whose objective function is the linear combination of the square sum of pressure gradient deviation at die exit and the penalty function relating to the measure of non-smoothness of solution. From the several iterative solutions of the optimization problem, the optimum solution can be obtained automatically while producing the uniform flow rate distribution at die exit.
In this work, Aqueous sericin solution was prepared by degumming process with electrolytic reduction water. Then, the microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems were applied to the concentration of aqueous sericin solution. The objective of this study was to select the optimum operating condition among the different pressure. The permeate flux and rejection ratio were observed with time, pressure, flow rate and concentration. and, the wastewater and permeated water quality values such as pH, BOD, COD, and NH levels were measured. In order to see the influence of electrolytic reduction water, the flux of pure water and electrolytic reduction water by PVDF22(MF) and PS100(UF) membrane was measured. In microfiltration system, the relative flux reduction decreased rapidly to 0.02 in the 30min, as the concentration polarization and gel layer formation were increased. and then the sericin concentration rejection ratio was 40%. In ultrafiltration system, the permeate flux decreased with time and concentration, and increased with the operating pressure and flow rate. Optimal condition in PS100 membrane system for sericin concentration was operating pressure 1.464kgf/$cm^24, operating flow rate $7\ell/min at\; 40^{\circ}C$. At that time, sericin concentration rejection ratio was 83% respectably. The sericin solution was concentrated from 0.1wt% solution to 0.2 wt % solution during about 2 hrs by the UF filteration membrane system.
This work reports the application of a hollow fiber module(HFM) for Cr(VI) extraction from heavy metal salts mixed solution by using microporous hydrophobic hollow fiber module. In HFM configuration, the organic extraction used for the extraction of Cr(VI) was di-(2-ethyl hexyl) phosphoric acid(D2EHPA) diluted with n-heptane. The study of HFM includes the influence of hydrodynamic and chemical condition, i.e., the flow rate of feed solution, the time of reactive extraction, the concentration of feed solution, and the pH of aqueous phase solutions. Several experiments with synthetic solution of different mixed components system of Cr(VI) solutions established optimum condition to achieve a clean separation of Cr(VI). It was possible to separate Cr(VI) in the presence of metal salts mixed solution, such as Zn(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) using the HFM technique.
This study was conducted to test the applicability of hydroxy radical reactor system, which applied advanced oxidation processes, to sterilize pathogenic bacteria for nutrient solution recycling in closed hydroponics. Removal efficiency was tested on 25 L of nutrient solution maxed with 10 mL culture solution of bacteria, E. coli, and R. solanacearum in a pilot tank. The testing conditions included various levels of hydroxy radicals resulting from air flow rates of 40, 80, and $120L\;min^{-1}$, and 12 hours processing time. The removal of bacteria, E. coli, and R. solanacearum by hydroxy radical in nutrient solution was significantly increased with an increase in the flow rate of the air from $40L\;min^{-1}$ to $120L\;min^{-1}$. The optimum removal efficiency was achieved at an air flow rate of $120L\;min^{-1}$ for 2 hours treatment. There were no significant differences in removal efficiency among bacteria, E. coli, and R. solanacearum for tested level and time of hydroxy radical. These results verified the efficiency of hydroxy radical in removing the pathogenic bacteria and the applicability of hydroxy radical reactor system in the field.
