Strength provisions in Korea Concrete Institute code are more conservative that those in ACI code by increasing load factors and decreasing capacity reduction factors. Cement content of mix design in construction field is usually higher than the modified for standard deviation because of rigorous inspection. Higher cement content increases not only strengths but also heat of hydration, shrinkage and brittleness which are not beneficial. To reduce and optimize the cement content in current mix design of Korean Highway Corporation, properties of fresh and hardened concrete for 16 different mix proportions have been investigated. It is found that the chemical admixture and cement of current mix proportions for highway construction are somewhat higher than the optimum amount. Therefore, the optimum mix design for 16 different purposes has been proposed.

In this study, the optimum mix proportions of rain garden structure concrete were decided and the mechanical properties were evaluated. Experimental parameters were blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled aggregates and natural jute fibers. The target compressive strength and chloride ion penetration were more than 24 MPa and less than 1000 coulombs, respectively. The response surface method was used for statistical optimization of experimental results. The optimal mixing ratios of the blast furnace slag, hwang-toh, recycled coarse aggregate and jute fiber volume fraction were determined 59.98 %, 8.74 %, 12.12 % and 0.2 %, respectively. The compressive strength, flexural strength and chloride ion penetration test results of optimum mix ratio showed that the 24.56 MPa, 3.88 MPa and 999.08 columbs, respectively.
This study describes data from determination of the optimum mix proportion and site application of the mass concrete placed in bottom slab and side wall having a large depth and section as main structures of LNG in-ground tank. This concrete requires low heat hydration, excellent balance between workability and consistency because concreting work of LNG in-ground tank is usually classified by under-pumping, adaptation of longer vertical and horizontal pumping line than ordinary pumping condition. For this purpose, low heat Portland cement and lime stone powder as cementitious materials are selected and design factors including unit cement and water content, water-binder ratio, fine aggregate ratio and adiabatic temperature rising are tested in the laboratory and batch plant. As experimental results, the optimum unit cement and water content are selected under $270kg/m^3$ and $l55{\~}l60 kg/m^3$ separately to control adiabatic temperature rising below $30^{\circ}C$ and to improve properties of the fresh and hardened concrete. Also, considering test results of the confined water ratio($\beta$p) and deformable coefficient(Ep), $30\%$ of lime stone powder by cement weight is selected as the optimum replacement ratio. After mix proportions of 5cases are tested and compared the adiabatic temperature rising($Q^{\infty}$, r), tensile and compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, teases satisfied with the required performances are chosen as the optimum mix design proportions of the side wall and bottom slab concrete. $Q^{\infty}$ and r are proved smaller than those of another project. Before application in the site, properties of the fresh concrete and actual mixing time by its ampere load are checked in the batch plant. Based on the results of this study, the optimum mix proportions of the massive concrete are applied successfully to the bottom slab and side wall in LNG in-ground tank.

At present, the antiwashout underwater concretes are used as popular construction materials in European countries, the United States and Japan. The water-soluble polymers in the antiwashout underwater concretes provide excellent segregation or washout resistance, self-compaction and self-leveling property to the concretes. The purpose of this study is to recommend to optimum mix proportions of antiwashout underwater concretes according to compressive strength of 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 500kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The antiwashout underwater concretes are prepared with various unit cement content, unit water content, sand-aggregate ratio, unit antiwashout agent and superplasticizer content. And they are tested for flowability, and compressive strength. From the test results, it is possible to recommend the optimum mix proportions of antiwashout underwater concretes according to compressive strengths within the range of 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 500kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

Covering mortar as a filter for permeable polymer concrete is necessary for good permeability from filtration continuously. Therefore, this paper is intended as an evaluation of the mechanical properties and permeability of permeable polymer concrete covered with polymer mortar as a filter. An optimum permeable polymer concrete is selected in various mix proportions, and three different polymer mortars were cast immediately following on the casting of the base permeable polymer concrete. And they are tested for compressive and flexural strengths, adhesion in tension, hardening shrinkage and permeability . From the test results, binder and filler contents in mix proportions had a great influence on the permeability of polymer concretes. The mechanical properties of permeable polymer concretes covered with polymer mortars using crushed stone are superior to other filters, and hardening shrinkage is the smallest in filters. It is apparent that adhesion between the base permeable polymer concrete and polymer mortar is affected by the degree of hardening shrinkage. From this study, proper mix proportions can be recommended in the consideration of properties of the permeable polymer concrete.

The objective of this study is to optimize the use of mineral admixtures (silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag) in high-performance concrete for bridge deck overlay. For this purpose, high-performance concrete, incorporating mineral admixtures, was tested for compressive strength and permeability. The Box Behnken design was used to determine the optimum mix proportions of the mineral admixtures. The optimized mix compositions were then technically evaluated. Test results are compare with the performance specification for high performance concrete overlay on bridge deck. The optimum mix proportions were shown to possess acceptable properties. Also, it is possible to save the construction and materials costs result from a reduction In actual material cost and from the use of widely avaliable truck mixers instead of mobile mixers.

This study proposed mix proportions of early strength pavement concrete for large size area using calcium nitrate. Therefore, we used type III cement with calcium nitrate. Laboratory tests conducted to air content, slump loss test, setting time test, compressive strength test and flexural strength test. Our early strength pavement concrete mixture proportion proposed in this study for large size area attained the required compressive strength of 21 MPa and a flexural strength of 3.8 MPa, which allowed it to be opened to traffic within 8 hours. Based on test results, we suggested optimum mix proportions of early strength pavement concrete for large size area using calcium nitrate.

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum mix proportion of latex modified mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures repair. The experimental variables included a latex and antiwashout admixture amount, binder-sand ratio, water-binder ratio. This study were evaluated a repair performance and environment effect of latex modified repair mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures. The pH test was conducted to evaluated the environmental effect and the flow test was peformed to evaluated the workability. Also, compressive, flexural and bond tests were conducted. Test results show that the optimum mix proportion of latex modified repair mortar for agricultural underwater concrete structures, was achieved by 1:1.5 binder-sand ratio, 5% latex ratio (weight of binder), 1.3% antiwashout admixture ratio (weight of binder), 0.33 water-binder ratio and 10% silica lune replacement ratio (weight of cement). The environmental effect and repair performance of optimum mix proportion satisfied all target performance.

As political circumstances in oversea countries and Korea varies, the risk of vulnerability from unexpected extreme loading conditions, such as explosions or extreme impacts, also increased. In addition, construction companies in Korea recently have taken chances of overseas expansion to countries where their domestic situations are not in rest. Therefore, the resistance of construction materials for blast or impact loading become taking more consideration from engineering field. This study is a part of the research to develop a high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite materials with high volume steel fibers and primary purpose of this study is to find an optimum mix proportions of in-fill slurry. In order to accomplish the tasks this study performed experimental investigations on the slurry for consistency, compressive strength, flowability, J-penetration, bleeding and rheology properties as well as mechanical properties, compressive and flexural strength, with respect to different mix proportions.
