Optimum Feeding Rate in Growing Olive Flounder Paralichthys olivaceus Fed Practical Extruded Pellet at Optimum Water Temperature (21℃) (적수온(21℃)에서 사육한 성장기 넙치 (Paralichthys olivaceus)의 배합사료 적정 공급률)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of feeding rate on growth performance, blood components and histology of growing olive flounder. The experiment was carried out to determine the optimum feeding rate of the fish (initial fish mean weight of $97{\pm}3.0$ g) at the optimum water temperature. Two replicated groups of fish were fed commercial diet at the feeding rates of 0, 1.0, 1.65 and 2.3% body weight (BW)/day and satiation. Feeding trial was conducted under a flow-through system with ten 1.2 metric ton aquaria receiving filtered seawater at $21{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for three weeks. Weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) for fish fed to satiation were significantly higher than those for the unfed fish and for fish fed at 1.0 and 1.65% BW/day. There were no significant differences in values of such parameters between fish fed at 1.65% and those fed at 2.3% BW/day and between fish fed at 2.3% and those fed to satiation. Weight gain and SGR for the unfed fish were significantly lower than those for fish in the other treatments. All the tissues (hepatopancreas, kidney and anterior intestine) were in good condition in fish fed the experimental diet at different feeding rates. This result indicates that the optimum feeding rates of olive flounder (97-160 g) was approximately 2.52% BW/day at the optimum water temperature.

  • Seven feeding trials were conducted to determine the effects of feeding rate and frequency in the Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegeli at seven different water temperatures. Two feeding-rate experiments for 5-g Korean rockfish at $17^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$; three feeding rate experiments for 16-g Korean rockfish at $16^{\circ}C$ and $24^{\circ}C$; and finally, two feeding frequency experiments for 93- and 100-g at $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ were conducted. Twenty fish averaging $5.5{\pm}0.2$ g ($mean{\pm}SD$) were randomly distributed into 18 indoor tanks containing 40-L seawater from a semi-recirculation system. Fish were fed a commercial diet for 4 weeks at water temperatures of $17^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$. Two feeding trials were conducted to determine the optimum feeding frequency in growing Korean rockfish reared at temperatures of $15^{\circ}C$ and $19^{\circ}C$. Broken line regression analysis of weight gain (WG) indicated that the optimum feeding rates of 5-g growing Korean rockfish were 4.48% (BW/day; BW, body weight) at $17^{\circ}C$ and 4.83% (BW/day) at $20^{\circ}C$. Broken line regression analysis of WG showed optimum feeding rates of 16-g juvenile Korean rockfish of 3.41% (BW/day) at $16^{\circ}C$, 3.75% (BW/day) at $20^{\circ}C$, and 3.34% (BW/day) at $24^{\circ}C$. The biological performance, results, along with morphological indices and serological characteristics, suggest that a feeding frequency of 1 meal/day was optimal to improve WG in growing Korean rockfish grown from 93 to 133 g at a water temperature of $15^{\circ}C$, and 100 to 132 g at $19^{\circ}C$.

Optimum feeding rate (initial fish mean weight : $384.2{\pm}5.91g$) was determined under the optimum water temperature. Two replicated groups of fish were fed a commercial diet at rates of 0%, 0.3%, 0.5%, and 0.7% body weight (BW) per day, and to satiation. The feeding trial was conducted using a flow-through system with ten 1.2-metric ton aquaria receiving filtered seawater at $20-24.5^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks. After the feeding trial, the weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) were significantly higher in fish fed at 0.7% BW/day and those fed to satiation (0.9% BW/day) than in fish fed at other feeding rates or in the unfed fish. These parameters were negative and significantly lower in the unfed fish than in those fed the experimental diet at all feeding rates. There were no significant differences in WG and SGR among fish fed at 0.3 and 0.5% BW/day and among those fed at 0.7% BW/day and to satiation. The histological changes in the hepatopancreas, kidney, and anterior intestine of fish fed at 0, 0.5, and 0.9 % BW/day did not differ much. Broken-line regression analysis of weight gain showed that the optimum feeding rate of olive flounder weighing 384 g was 0.74% BW per day at the optimum water temperatures.

  • The spatter generation rate of GMA welding with $CO_2$ gas shielding was measured with the change of welding conditions such as wire feeding rate and welding voltage and then the results were analized with the accompanying changes in metal transfer mode and in bead geometry. The spatter generation rate (SGR) was relatively low not only wit the short circuit transfer but with the truely globular transfer mode. However, the SGR resulted with the mixed mode were consistantly high. The resultant wave pattern of mixed mode was due to the coexistance of short-circuit and globular transfer and characterized by the frequent appearance of instantaneous short circuit. Considering the result of SGR and that of bead geometry, it could be concluded that when the wire feeding rate (or welding current) was either low or high, the optimum bead shape could be obtained along with the low spatter generation. However, in the middle range of wire feeding rate, the optimum bead shape was only obtained in the mixed mode condition resulting in the high spatter generation.

  • It is difficult to determine the feeding rate of coagulant in water treatment process, due to nonlinearity, multivariables and slow response characteristics etc. To deal with this difficulty, the fusion of genetic algorithms and fuzzy inference system was used in determining of feeding rate of coagulant. The genetic algorithms are excellently robust in complex operation problems, since it uses randomized operators and searches for the best chromosome without auxiliary information from a population consists of codings of parameter set. To apply this algorithms, we made the look up table and membership function from the actual operation data of water treatment process. We determined optimum dosages of coagulant (PAC, LAS etc.) by the fuzzy operation, and compared it with the feeding rate of the actual operation data.

Optimum feeding rate (initial fish mean weight : $316.7{\pm}6.18g$) was determined under the optimum water temperature. Two replicated groups of fish were fed a commercial diet at rates of 0%, 0.4%, 0.6%, and 0.8% of body weight (BW) per day, and to satiation. Feeding trial was conducted using a flow-through system with 10 1.2-metric ton aquaria receiving filtered seawater at $21-24^{\circ}C$ for 3 weeks. Weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) were significantly higher in fish fed to satiation (1.0% BW/day) than in those in other treatments. These parameters were negative and significantly lower in the starved fish than in fish fed the experimental diet at all feeding rates. There were no significant differences in WG and SGR among fish fed at 0.4%, 0.6%, and 0.8% BW/day. Hematocrit and hemoglobin in fish fed to satiation were significantly lower than those in other treatments. Histological changes of fish fed at 0.6% BW/day indicated that this group was in the best condition; differences were not found in tissues of fish fed at 0%, 0.6% and 1.0% BW/day. Broken-line regression analysis of weight gain showed that the optimum feeding rate of olive flounder weighing 317 g was 0.99% BW per day at the optimum water temperature.

  • We investigated the effects of feeding rate on the growth performance of growing and sub-adult olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus, and the optimum feeding rate at high water temperature (25-31℃). In experiment I, two replicated groups of fish (113 g) were fed a commercial diet (CD) at rates of 0, 0.7, 1.2, 1.7, 2.2, and 2.4% (satiation) body weight (BW) per day for 4 weeks. In experiment II, two replicated groups of fish (313 g) were fed a CD feeding rates of 0, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, and 1.0% (satiation) BW per day for 4 weeks. In experiment I, the weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed at 0.7 and 0.9% BW per day was significantly higher than that of unfed fish (0%) and fish fed at 0.3, 0.5, and 1.0% (satiation) BW per day. In experiment II, the WG and SGR increased significantly as feeding rate increased from 0 to 2.2% BW per day, but decreased in the satiation group (2.4%). Broken-line regression analysis of WG showed that the optimum feeding rate of growing and sub-adult olive flounder were 1.98% and 0.55% BW per day, respectively, at the high water temperature.

Optimum Feeding Rate and Frequency in Juvenile Korean Rockfish Sebastes schlegeli Fed a Commercial Diet (조피볼락(Sebastes schlegeli) 치어의 배합사료 적정 공급률과 공급횟수)

  • Two feeding trials were conducted to investigate the effects of feeding rate and frequency on growth performance and body composition of juvenile Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegeli reared at $15.0{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$. In the first trial, three replicate fish groups averaging $2.07{\pm}0.03g$ were fed a commercial diet with one of seven different daily feeding rates: 1.00%, 2.00%, 2.50%, 2.75%, 3.00%, 3.25%, and satiation (3.34%) based on body weight (BW). After four weeks of feeding, fish fed the 3% diet showed significantly higher weight gain (WG) and feed efficiency (FE) than fish that received the other feeding rates. In the second trial, the optimum feeding frequency was evaluated with three replicate fish groups averaging $2.04{\pm}0.03g$. Fish were fed a commercial diet at 2.87% BW with six different daily feeding frequencies: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, or 9 meals. After four weeks of feeding, WG, specific growth rate, FE, and protein efficiency rate in fish fed 3 meals $d^{-1}$ were significantly higher than those of fish fed 7 or 9 meals $d^{-1}$. In both feeding trials, proximate composition of the entire body changed depending on the feeding rate or frequency. A broken-line regression analysis based on weight gain suggested that the optimum daily feeding rate and frequency for juvenile Korean rockfish at $15^{\circ}C$ was 2.9% BW $d^{-1}$ and 2-3 meals $d^{-1}$, respectively.

Effects of Feeding Frequency and Satiation Rate on the Growth and Body Composition of Red- and White-colored Carp, Cyprinus carpio var. koi (사료 공급 횟수 및 만복 공급율이 비단잉어 홍백치어의 성장 및 체조성에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigated the proper feeding frequency and satiation rate for the growth of red- and white-colored carp fingerlings in a feeding experiment. Triplicate groups of fish averaging 6.3 g were fed diets at four feeding frequencies (1, 2, 3, or 4 meals a day) and two satiation rates (satiation and 80% satiation) for 6 weeks. The survival of the fish was not affected by either the feeding frequency or the satiation rate. The weight gain, feed efficiency, and protein efficiency ratio of fish were affected by the feeding frequency and satiation rate, and increased significantly with both. The feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio with satiation feeding of fish fed four meals a day did not differ from those of fish fed three meals a day. The daily feed intake was affected by the feeding frequency and satiation rate. The moisture, crude lipid, and ash contents of whole body were affected by the feeding frequency. Moisture and crude lipid contents were affected by feeding satiation. Based on these results, we conclude that the proper feeding frequency and satiation rate for the optimum growth of red- and white-colored carp fingerlings is four meals a day with satiation feeding.
