Design Method to Reduce the Press-Fitted Assembly Dama (압입축의 파손 저감을 위한 설계 방법에 대한 연구)

  • A press-fitted shaft is an essential part used in industrial machines, and it is generally used to transmit large quantities of power. Very high contact pressure occurs at the end parts of the contact between the shaft and boss, which are press-fitted shaft components. Such contact pressure not only damages the contact surface of a press-fitted shaft but also reduces its fatigue strength. To improve a press-fitted shaft's fatigue strength, the contact pressure on the contact surface, which directly affects the fatigue strength, should be minimized. Thus, in this study, the design configuration optimization of the end part of the boss was based on the approximate optimization method and was aimed at minimizing the contact pressure at the end of a press-fitted shaft. Comparison of the contact pressure and the contact stress of a conventional press-fitted shaft with those of the optimized press-fitted shaft showed that the boss design of the optimized press-fitted shaft effectively improved the fatigue life.

A Study on Mechano-chemical Ball Milling Process for Fabricating Tungsten Disulfide Nanosheets (이황화텅스텐 나노시트 제조를 위한 기계화학적 볼밀링 공정 연구)

  • Tungsten disulfide (WS2) nanosheets have attracted considerable attention because of their unique optical and electrical properties. Several methods for fabrication of WS2 nanosheets have been developed. However, methods for mass production of high-quality WS2 nanosheets remain challenging. In this study, WS2 nanosheets were fabricated using mechano-chemical ball milling based on the synergetic effects of chemical intercalation and mechanical exfoliation. The ball-milling time was set as a variable for the optimized fabricating process of WS2 nanosheets. Under the optimized conditions, the WS2 nanosheets had lateral sizes of 500-600 nm with either a monolayer or bilayer. They also exhibited high crystallinity in the 2H semiconducting phase. Thus, the proposed method can be applied to the exfoliation of other transition metal dichalcogenides using suitable chemical intercalants. It can also be used with high-performance WS2-based photodiodes and transistors used in practical semiconductor applications.

  • Lately the Infill Modular Construction System which meets the domestic standards about the structure and fireproof performance and which is applied to the remodeling techniques is being emphasized. In order to introduce the Infill Modular Construction System to domestic market successfully, the development of insufficient element technologies and systematic analysis of process should be preceded. This research aims to establish of Standard Construction Process, as advanced research for the settlement of the Infill Modular Construction System. As advanced research for the activation of the Infill Modular Construction System, this research aims to develop Infill Unit Module's mobile device. This is expected to improve work efficiency. In addition organizing optimized Standard Construction Process by steady work analysis and improvement is being planned.

  • The paper presents our study of development for multi-cavity preform mold system which consists of hot runner system and valve gate. For this purpose, stretching blow molding process and preform injection process were simulated by Polyflow and Moldflow. Based on various results of the preform injection process analysis, process planning was established. The sectional thickness distribution of preform was optimized. Preform injection mold system was designed by these technical analysis data. Finally, 24-cavity preform mold system was successfully developed.

  • In the shallow trench isolation(STI)-chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process, the key issues are the optimized thickness control, within-wafer-non-uniformity, and the possible defects such as pad oxide damage and nitride residue. The defect like nitride residue and silicon (or pad oxide) damage after STI-CMP process were discussed to accomplish its optimum process condition. To understand its optimum process condition, overall STI related processes including reverse moat etch, trench etch, STI fill and STI-CMP were discussed. Consequently, we could conclude that law trench depth and high CMP thickness can cause nitride residue, and high trench depth and over-polishing can cause silicon damage.

  • Bulkiness and complexity of a ship structure make it impossible to examine the process of shipbuilding with a prototype in advance. The simulation provides a possibility that the shipbuilding process can be checked and optimized in the virtual world. The realization of the simulated result in the real world gives the higher quality and productivity in shipbuilding. For the effective simulation, the shipbuilding process was analyzed on the viewpoint of the object-oriented methodology and modeled by using the UML. The implementation of simulation was done with the excellent simulation tools, CATIA and DELMIA. The result of this research showed the way to the optimization of process and the improvement of productivity in shipbuilding.

  • In the automotive industry, TWB hot stamping process is broadly adapted to reduce weight of the car and improve fuel efficiency. However, the process faces a problem of weakened strength of the welded zone after hot stamping process, due to the fact that Al-Si elements of the coating layer penetrating the welded zone. In this study, filler wires with high percentages of carbon and manganese is adapted during laser welding process to secure the strength of the fusion zone. In addition, wire feeding speed and laser welding speed are optimized by sample test.

Design Optimization on End Coupling as a Power Transmission Component for Aluminum Hot Rolling Process (알루미늄 열간 압연공정의 동력 전달용 커플링에 대한 최적화 설계)

  • The End Coupling is main component of the aluminum hot roll process. The End Coupling is used for transmission of rotational power with heavy-duty load. Fracture of the End Coupling cause serious economic losses because an End Coupling is a very expensive component and it takes a long time to repair it. Therefore, preventing the destruction of the End Coupling is essential for ensuring a long mechanical life cycle. In this paper, the parametric study on the End Coupling was performed in order to minimize maximum stress under operation loads. To verify the interference of spindle assembly with modified End Coupling, kinematics simulation was performed by applying the various combination type and dynamic boundary condition of the spindle assembly. The interference of optimized model was not occurred during combination process and driving process. As a result of an optimum design for life extension on End Coupling, the maximum stress of modified End Coupling was lower than that of the initial model by 26%.

Steel nitriding optimization through multi-objective and FEM analysis

  • Steel nitriding is a thermo-chemical process leading to surface hardening and improvement in fatigue properties. The process is strongly influenced by many different variables such as steel composition, nitrogen potential, temperature, time, and quenching media. In the present study, the influence of such parameters affecting physic-chemical and mechanical properties of nitride steels was evaluated. The aim was to streamline the process by numerical-experimental analysis allowing defining the optimal conditions for the success of the process. Input parameters-output results correlations were calculated through the employment of a multi-objective optimization software, modeFRONTIER (Esteco). The mechanical and microstructural results belonging to the nitriding process, performed with different processing conditions for various steels, are presented. The data were employed to obtain the analytical equations describing nitriding behavior as a function of nitriding parameters and steel composition. The obtained model was validated, through control designs, and optimized by taking into account physical and processing conditions.

  • MMC has excellent mechanical properties in many ways in automotive industrial, and get into the spotlight as a light materials substituted for iron and steel. But the know-how about MMC research lack, MMC is expensive and difficult to apply the sound parts. Especially it is difficult to produce the hollow type parts composed with MMC. Therefore, hollow type parts of metal composites by using thixoforming process which as co-existing solidus-liquidus phase, it is very important to obtain forming condition. In this study, MMC billet producted by electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process is formed to hollow type parts of thixoforming process and inspected of suitability for application. It is optimized production condition, and applied to experiment. After variable materials were produced for thixoforming process, it were inspected of suitability for application by comparsion with mechanical properties. In this study, used materials were A357, A380 10%vol, and 20%vol SiCp, and the size of particultes were 14$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 5.5$\mu\textrm{m}$.
