  • In this paper, we perform a mechanism anlysis and optyimal designof the feeding system in a industrial sewing machine. Sewing machines are classified by the transfer mechanism as (1) transferred by feed dog only (2) transferred by feed dog and needle (3) transferred by feed dog, needle and pressure bar. We took the dewing machine classified as (2) which is more efficient in transferring the clothes than the machine classified as (1). In analyzing the mechanism, we divide the feeding mechanism as feed dog mechanism and needle bar mechanism. The two mechanisms are connected with each other kinematically because the clothes are transferred by needle and feed dog simultaneously and stitched by needle which pass through the feed dog in every stitchcycle. We define good stitch as coincidence of stitch between the forward and reverse motion of feeding. And we optimize feeding mechanism for that purpose. It is illustrated that stitching performance of the optimized mechanism is compared to original feeding mechanism.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new combinatorial auction mechanism - N-Bilateral Optimized Combinatorial Auction (N-BOCA). N-BOCA is a flexible iterative combinatorial auction model that offers optimized trading for multi-suppliers and multi-purchasers in the supply chain. We design the N-BOCA system from the perspectives of architecture, protocol, and trading strategy. Under the given N-BOCA architecture and protocol, auctioneers and bidders have diverse decision strategies f3r winner determination. This needs flexible modeling environments. Hence, we propose an optimization modeling agent for bid and auctioneer selection. The agent has the capability to automatic model formulation for Integer Programming modeling. Finally, we show the viability of N-BOCA through prototype and experiments. The results say both higher allocation efficiency and effectiveness compared with 1-to-N general combinatorial auction mechanisms.

  • In layered communication architecture, each layer is designed to service its own functions to higher layer while getting serviced by lower layer. Usually layered architectures are not optimized in a total view of whole services and functions. So cross layer design pursues performance enhancements by optimizing in various ways. In LTE, MAC layer uses HARQ mechanism and RLC layer uses ARQ mechanism for retransmission. According to the 3GPP 36.331 specification, two layers' cooperation may not happen in an optimized way. This paper suggests an adaptive MAC layer approach which RLC layer's function might be initiated in MAC layer in advance to utilize MAC layer's idling wasting time for RLC layer's next decision. This adaptive ARQ method in MAC layer speeds up the next retransmission and reduces the overall transmission time. Emulation shows the improved performance in total retransmission time and retransmission success ratio. In wireless shadow area, the retransmission occurs frequently. Our approach has strong points in this poor wireless condition.

  • In this paper, we describe the design, implementation and evaluation for a multimedia conferencing system with intramedia and intermedia synchronization support between audio and video. The synchronization mechanism proposed here is capable of dynamically adapting to various network conditions thus providing an optimized QoS. In realizing the system based on this mechanism, NeVoT on Mbone is used for audio and VIC for video. Furthermore a synchromization controller is designed and realized with a unique process in supporting intermedia synchronization. Each media agents handling its media stream are modified with intramedia synchronization function. And a communicative function between media agents and synchronization controller is added as well for intermedia synchronization function. Each media agents function reports its buffering status to the synchronization control process which in turn send out optimized buffering delay value thus supporting intermedia synchronization. The realized system is configured and tested on Ethernet and ATM network where performance measurements were performed and its effective synchronization support has been assured.

  • The objective of this research is to optimize the designing parameters of the parallel manipulator with large orientation workspace at the boundary position of the constant orientation workspace (COW). The method uses a simple genetic algorithm(SGA) while considering three different kinematic performance indices: COW and the global conditioning index(GCI) to evaluate the mechanism's dexterity for translational motion of an end-effector, and orientation workspace of two angle of Euler angles to obtain the large rotation angle of an end-effector at the boundary position of COW. Total fifteen cases divided according to the combination of the sphere radius of COW and rotation angle of orientation workspace are studied, and to decide the best model in the total optimized cases, the fuzzy inference system is used for each case's results. An optimized model is selected as a best model, which shows better kinematic performances compared to the basis of the pre-existing model.

  • This paper shows the design optimization of the paper feeding mechanism under dynamic behavior by using commercial codes of RecurDyn/MTT2D and RecurDyn/AutoDesign which are developed by functionBay, Inc. A virtual mockup for dynamics analysis of the paper feeding mechanism is build on RecurDyn/MTT2D and is simulated. Flexible paper is represented as a series of rigid bars connected by revolute joints and rotational spring dampers. Paper is fed by a contact and friction mechanism on rollers or guides. The slip of the paper and nip force of rollers are measured to estimate the system performance. After a simulation, these performances are automatically send to RecurDyn/AutoDesign which is a sequential approximate optimization tool based on the response surface modeling. RecurDyn/AutoDesign makes the approximate objective function and computes the optimized design points of the design variables and gives them to analysis tool. And then the simulation is repeated with the updated design variables. These processes are repeated until finding a tolerable design optimization. In this paper, a paper feeding mechanism is introduced and it is optimized with the proposed algorithms.

  • This paper presents the two degree-of-freedom (DOF) planar parallel mechanism, called the $2{\underline{R}}RR-RP$ manipulator, whose degree-of-freedom is dependent on an additional passive constraining leg connecting the base and the platform. First, the kinematic analysis of the mechanism is performed: the inverse and forward kinematic problems are analytically solved, the workspace is systematically derived, and all of the singular configurations are examined. Then, in order to determine the geometric parameters the optimization of the mechanism is performed considering its dexterity, stiffness, and space utilization. Finally, the kinematic performances of the optimized mechanism are evaluated through the comparison study to the conventional 5-bar parallel manipulator.

  • In this study, skeletal mechanisms are produced by directed relation graph with specified threshold value and sensitivity analysis based on species database from the directed relation graph. Skeletal mechanism is optimized through the elimination of unimportant reaction steps by computational singular perturbation importance index. Reduction is performed for the detailed mechanism of methyl butanoate consisting of 264 species and 1219 elementary reactions. Validation shows acceptable agreement for auto-ignition delays in wide parametric ranges of pressure, temperature and equivalence ratio. Methyl butanoate has been proposed as a simple biodiesel surrogate although the alkyl chain consists of four carbon atoms. The resulting surrogate mechanism for n-heptane and MB consists of 76 species and 226 reaction steps including those for NOx.
