Identity recognition in real environment with a reliable mode is a key issue in human computer interaction (HCI). In this paper, we present a robust person identification system considering score-based optimal reliability measure of audio-visual modalities. We propose an extension of the modified reliability function by introducing optimizing parameters for both of audio and visual modalities. For degradation of visual signals, we have applied JPEG compression to test images. In addition, for creating mismatch in between enrollment and test session, acoustic Babble noises and artificial illumination have been added to test audio and visual signals, respectively. Local PCA has been used on both modalities to reduce the dimension of feature vector. We have applied a swarm intelligence algorithm, i.e., particle swarm optimization for optimizing the modified convection function's optimizing parameters. The overall person identification experiments are performed using VidTimit DB. Experimental results show that our proposed optimal reliability measures have effectively enhanced the identification accuracy of 7.73% and 8.18% at different illumination direction to visual signal and consequent Babble noises to audio signal, respectively, in comparison with the best classifier system in the fusion system and maintained the modality reliability statistics in terms of its performance; it thus verified the consistency of the proposed extension.
In this paper, an identification method of impact force is proposed for composite structures. In this method, the relation between force histories and strain responses is first formulated. The transfer matrix, which relates the strain responses of sensors and impact force information, is constructed from the finite element method (FEM). Based on this relation, an optimization model to minimize the difference between the measured strain responses and numerically evaluated strain responses is built up to obtain the impact force history. The identification of force history is performed by a modified least-squares method that imposes the penalty on the first-order derivative of the force history. Moreover, from the relation of strain responses and force history, an error vector indicating the force location is defined and used for the force location identification. The above theory has also been extended into the cases when using acceleration information instead of strain information. The validity of the present method has been verified through two experimental examples. The obtained results demonstrate that the present approach works very well, even when the internal damages in composites happen due to impact events. Moreover, this method can be used for the real-time health monitoring of composite structures.
Broad studies have addressed the issue of structural element damage identification, however, rubber bearing, as a key component of load transmission between the superstructure and substructure, is essential to the operational safety of a bridge, which should be paid more attention to its health condition. However, regarding the limitations of the traditional bearing damage detection methods as well as few studies have been conducted on this topic, in this paper, inspired by the model updating-based structural damage identification, a two-stage bearing damage identification method has been proposed. In the first stage, we deduce a novel bearing damage localization indicator, called element relative MSE, to accurately determine the bearing damage location. In the second one, the prior knowledge of bearing damage localization is combined with sailfish optimization (SFO) to perform the bearing damage estimation. In order to validate the feasibility, a numerical example of a 5-span continuous beam is introduced, also the noise robustness has been investigated. Meanwhile, the effectiveness and engineering applicability are further verified based on an experimental simply supported beam and actual engineering of the I-40 Bridge. The obtained results are good, which indicate that the proposed method is not only suitable for simple structures but also can accurately locate the bearing damage site and identify its severity for complex structure. To summarize, the proposed method provides a good guideline for the issue of bridge bearing detection, which could be used to reduce the difficulty of the traditional bearing failure detection approach, further saving labor costs and economic expenses.

Effects-Based Operations (EBO) refers to a process for achieving strategic goals by focusing on effects rather than attrition-based destruction. For a successful implementation of EBO, identifying key nodes in an adversary network is crucial in the process of EBO. In this study, we suggest a network-based approach that combines network centrality and optimization to select the most influential nodes. First, we analyze the adversary's network structure to identify the node influence using degree and betweenness centrality. Degree centrality refers to the extent of direct links of a node to other nodes, and betweenness centrality refers to the extent to which a node lies between the paths connecting other nodes of a network together. Based on the centrality results, we then suggest an optimization model in which we minimize the sum of the main effects of the adversary by identifying the most influential nodes under the dynamic nature of the adversary network structure. Our results show that key node identification based on our optimization model outperforms simple centrality-based node identification in terms of decreasing the entire network value. We expect that these results can provide insight not only to military field for selecting key targets, but also to other multidisciplinary areas in identifying key nodes when they are interacting to each other in a network.

This paper proposes a hybrid searching algorithm based on parameter identification for power system load models. Hybrid searching was performed by the combination of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and a complex method, which enhances the convergence of solutions closer to minima and takes advantage of global searching with PSO. In this paper, the load model of interest is composed of a ZIP model and a third-order model for induction motors for stability analysis, and parameter sets are obtained that best-fit the output measurement data using the hybrid search. The origin of the hybrid method is to further apply the complex method as a local search for finding better solutions using the selected particles from the performed PSO procedure.

In this paper, we are proposed optimization method of fuzzy model in order to complex and nonlinear system. In the fuzzy modeling, a premise identification is very important to describe the charateristics of a given unknown system. Then, the proposed fuzzy model implements system structure and parameter identification, using the fuzzy inference method and genetic algorithms. Inference method for fuzzy model presented in our paper include the simplified inference and linear inference. Time series data for gas furance and sewage treatment process are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Also, the performance index with weighted value is proposed to achieve a balance between the results of performance for the training and testing data.

The study concerns a design procedure of rule-based systems. The proposed rule-based fuzzy modeling implements system structure and parameter identification in the efficient from of "IF..., THEN..." statements, and exploits the theory of system optimization and fuzzy implication rules. The method for rule-based fuzzy modeling concerns the from of the conclusion part of the the rules that can be constant. Both triangular and Gaussian-like membership function are studied. The optimization hinges on an autotuning algorithm that covers as a modified constrained optimization method known as a complex method. The study introduces a weighted performance index (objective function) that helps achieve a sound balance between the quality of results produced for the training and testing set. This methodology sheds light on the role and impact of different parameters of the model on its performance. The study is illustrated with the aid of two representative numerical examples.
In order to identify the design parameters of a hydraulic engine mount with a nonlinear characteristics, an experimental method has been used generally. The method takes a considerable time and expense because of preparing an experimental apparatus, conducting a test, and analyzing results. Therefore, this paper presents a simple method to identify the design parameters of a cylindrical hydraulic engine mount, and optimize the design parameters. The physical model and mathematical equations of the mount were derived, and values of the design parameters of the mount were identified by optimization method with minimizing difference between the analytical results with the equations and the experimental results. This method is more simpler than the conventional experiment method and identify successfully the design parameters. In addition, the technique can optimize the design parameters of the mount to improves the isolation performance of the mount.

In the first part of this paper, the influences of some of crack parameters on natural frequencies of a cracked cantilever Functionally Graded Beam (FGB) are studied. A cantilever beam is modeled using Finite Element Method (FEM) and its natural frequencies are obtained for different conditions of cracks. Then effect of variation of depth and location of cracks on natural frequencies of FGB with single and multiple cracks are investigated. In the second part, two Multi-Layer Feed Forward (MLFF) Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are designed for prediction of FGB's Cracks' location and depth. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Back-Error Propagation (BEP) algorithms are applied for training ANNs. The accuracy of two training methods' results are investigated.

One of the most recent methods of structural damage identification is using the difference between structures responses after and before damage occurrence. To do this one can formulate the damage detection problem as an inverse optimization problem where the extents of damage in each element are considered as the optimizations variables. To optimize the objective function, heuristic methods such as GA, PSO etc. are widely utilized. In this paper, inspired by animals such as bat, dolphin, oilbird, shrew etc. that use echolocation for finding food, a new and efficient method, called Echolocation Search Algorithm (ESA), is proposed to properly identify the site and extent of multiple damage cases in structural systems. Numerical results show that the proposed method can reliably determine the location and severity of multiple damage cases in structural systems.
