Effective methods for extraction of hot taste component in red (capsaicin) and black (piperine) peppers and simultaneous HPLC analysis were established to estimate level of peppers used. Capsaicin and pipeline contents of red and black peppers were 48.75-87.58 and 2900-5520 mg/100 g, respectively, Contents of capsaicin and pipeline in ramen soup base were $2.47{\pm}1.49mg/100g$ and $46.20{\pm}16.10mg/100g$, and estimated levels of red and black peppers were $4.02{\pm}2.37%$ and $1.23{\pm}0.43%$, respectively, In bowl ramens contents of capsaicin and pipeline were $2.02{\pm}1.18mg/100g$ and $41.98{\pm}23.12mg/100g$, and estimated levels of red and black peppers were $3.28{\pm}1.92%$ and $1.09{\pm}0.60%$, respectively. Capsaicin and piperine contents of hot ramens were $4.83{\pm}2.69 mg/100 g$ and $69.49{\pm}20.03mg/100g$, and estimated levels of red and black peppers were $8.62{\pm}4.42%$ and $1.79{\pm}0.58%$, respectively. In bibimmen, capsaicin content was $14.29{\pm}5.72mg/100g$, and piperine was not detected, an indication that only red pepper was used as hot condiment.
Cornus fructus has been used as a tonic, astringent, and haemostatic agent in Korea, China, and Japan. In this study, the fruit of Cornus officinalis was treated with different osmotic pressures, pH values, heat, and ethanol percentages in order to establish optimum extraction conditions for gallic acid, an example of a hydrolyzable tannin. The extract was analyzed by HPLC and LC-MS/MS to identify the gallic acid. As a result, the highest extraction rate of gallic acid (1.57 mg/g) occurred when the Cornus fructus was extracted with 100% ethanol for 1 hr at $80^{\circ}C$. Also, when it was treated with 70% ethanol for 24 and 48 hr, contents of gallic acid were 1.35 and 1.50 mg/g, respectively.

Biocatalytic modification of natural resources can be used to generate novel compounds with specific properties, such as higher viscosity and reactivity. The production of hydroxy fatty acids (HFAs), originally found in low quantities in plants, is a good example of the biocatalytic modification of natural vegetable oils. HFAs show high potential for application in a wide range of industrial products, including resins, waxes, nylons, plastics, lubricants, cosmetics, and additives in coatings and paintings. In a recent study, Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PR3 was used to produce 7,10-dihydroxy-8(E)-octadecenoic acid (DOD) from oleic acid. This present study focused primarily on the utilization of three natural nut oils obtained from the Philippines -pili nut oil (PNO), palm oil (PO), and virgin coconut oil (VCO)- to produce DOD by P. aeruginosa strain PR3. Strain PR3 produced DOD from PNO and PO only, with PNO being the more efficient substrate. An optimization study to achieve the maximum DOD yield from PNO revealed the optimal incubation time and medium pH to be 48 h and 8.0, respectively. Among the carbon sources tested, fructose was the most efficiently used, with a maximum DOD production of 130 mg/50 mL culture. Urea was the optimal nitrogen source, with a maximum product yield of 165 mg/50 mL culture. The results from this study demonstrated that PNO could be used as an efficient substrate for DOD production by microbial bioconversion.
Caching query results and reusing them in processing of subsequent queries is an important query optimization technique. Materialized view and view indexing are the representative examples of such a technique. The two schemes had received much attention for relational databases, and have been investigated for XML data since XML emerged as the standard for data exchange on the Web. In XML view indexing, XML view xv which is the result of an XML query is represented as an XML view index(XVI), a structure containing the identifiers of xv's underlying XML elements as well as the information on xv. Since XVI for xv stores just the identifiers of the XML elements not the elements themselves, when xv is requested, its XVI should be materialized against xv's underlying XML documents. In this paper, we address the problem of integrating an XML view index management system with an RDBMS based XML storage system. The proposed system was implemented in Java on Windows 2000 Server with each of two different commercial RDBMSs, and used in evaluating performance improvement through XML view indexing as well as its overheads. The experimental results revealed that XML view indexing was very effective with an RDBMS based XML storage system while its overhead was negligible.
Aluminium based inorganic flocculants are extensively used in this country in the removal of fine particles present in the raw water for the production of drinking water. These inorganic flocculants, however, have potential hazard of high residual aluminium ions in the treated waters, which is known to be one of the reasons of alzheimer's disease. Inorganic flocculants alone are sometimes incapable of treating water when there are excessive turbidity in the raw water sources due to flooding. A polyamine type polymeric flocculant has long been used to treat raw water in the drinking water production in the European countries and United State of America. The optimum reaction conditions such as mole ratio of epichlorohydrin(EPI) to dimethylamine(DMA), reaction temperature and time for each stage for the pilot scale preparation of polyamine from EPI-DMA was studied in this work. The variation of intrinsic viscosity and flocculating efficiency in the water treatment of the synthesized polyamines were evaluated. The residual materials after polymerization reaction were analyzed by gas chromatography to study the effect of variation of reaction conditions.

Electro-hydraulic sliding deck systems have been developed to reduce the weight for the loading of an agricultural machine. The extension length of the sliding deck was calculated according to the bed's dump angle. The optimum thickness and material were determined using a large and heavy load at acceptable angles. In addition, the degrees of freedom were calculated to obtain the input/output relationship of the system. An equation was derived using a simplified model formula for the extended length of the sliding deck according to the bed's dump angle. Also, the advance length at the maximum and minimum angles of the system was determined using numerical analysis. A down-scaled model of the system was constructed and verified by experiments. The deck was simplified to determine the material and thickness of the sliding deck and for the selection of the two representative materials. The simplified model was tested in deformation tests and stress tests with different thicknesses and materials using a structure analysis program. The analysis results show that ATOS80 is the best among the two materials for reducing the weight of the system.

In an optical system that serves as the backbone of an information transmission system, it is essential to evaluate the statistical characteristics of the signal and noise for a performance evaluation and optimization of the system. The optical receiver system improves the reception sensitivity by adopting an optical amplifier in front of the optical detector to improve the reception sensitivity, but some problems change the bandwidth of the electronic signal to the optical signal in the optical receiver due to the ASE noise added to the output of the optical detector. The problem of changing the ratio of the bandwidth of these signals varies according to the passband characteristics of the filter present at the output stage. The frequency response effect can be solved by constructing an infinite order filter, but it is almost impossible to implement it. In this paper, the Butterworth filter was implemented to evaluate the frequency response characteristics of an optical receiver system according to the filter order. The simulation results showed that the receiver sensitivity increases as the order of Butter-Worth filters increases. In addition, as a result of simulation of the change of various values, it was confirmed that the reception sensitivity increased with increasing. That is, the average photocurrent increases, and the dispersion decreases with increasing.

The purpose of present study is to identify the regional tourism resources using Webometric network analysis. The study focuses on Suseong area in Daegu metropolitan city. Various kinds of web-based data, for example, hit counts, online news, and public comments, were used to discover hot places and people's responses. The research question is, 'First, what is the optimum level of the search engine for suseong? Second, what is the online appearance of tourist resources in suseong? Which region is the center of tourism with high levels of emergence? Third, what are the main contents of news articles and comments related to the Suseong pond?'. The results show that the search engine optimization level in Suseong is lower than that in other areas in Daegu. In other words, tourism information and contents regarding Suseong are not highly visible on cyber space. Importantly, Suseong pond had the highest online presence. A close analysis of both online news and users' comments on Suseong pond, however, revealed the biggest concern as calling for improving public accessibility to tourism infrastructure. The findings are expected to contribute to policy development and service operation related to tourism resources in Suseong.

Atmospheric transport pathway of an air mass is an important constraint controlling the chemical properties of the air mass observed at a designated location. Such information could be utilized for understanding observed temporal variabilities in atmospheric concentrations of long-lived chemical compounds, of which sinks and/or sources are related particularly with natural and/or anthropogenic processes in the surface, and as well as for performing inversions to constrain the fluxes of such compounds. The Lagrangian particle dispersion model FLEXPART provides a useful tool for estimating detailed particle dispersion during atmospheric transport, a significant improvement over traditional "single-line" trajectory models that have been widely used. However, those without a modeling background seeking to create simple back-trajectory maps may find it challenging to optimize FLEXPART for their needs. In this study, we explain how to set up, operate, and optimize FLEXPART for back-trajectory analysis, and also provide automatization programs based on the open-source R language. Discussions include setting up an "AVAILABLE" file (directory of input meteorological fields stored on the computer), creating C-shell scripts for initiating FLEXPART runs and storing the output in directories designated by date, as wells as processing the FLEXPART output to create figures for a back-trajectory "footprint" (potential emission sensitivity within the boundary layer). Step by step instructions are explained for an example case of calculating back trajectories derived for Anmyeon-do, Korea for January 2011. One application is also demonstrated in interpreting observed variabilities in atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration at Anmyeon-do during this period. Back-trajectory modeling information introduced in this study should facilitate the creation and automation of most common back-trajectory calculation needs in atmospheric research.
Since South Korea has problems existing in the respects of educational resources, environment, policies, etc., local universities of South Korea have been in an inferior position in the competition of overseas student enrollment. With increasingly deepening of cultural exchange between China and South Korea, due to geographic close relationship between the two countries, a great number of South Korean students go to China for study; also, Chinese students have increasingly become the important target of recruitment by all local universities in South Korea. In recent years, with rapid increase in the number of Chinese students in South Korea, the overseas student education system of South Korea has been progressed continuously. Compared with educational advantages of universities in European, American developed countries, and the capital region of South Korea, however there still exists a lot of problems in Chinese student recruitment by local universities. The major findings of the study can be summarized as follows. There exist not only some advantages but also some problems to be addressed urgently in Chinese student enrollment by South Korean local universities. How to build a distinctive recruitment environment suitable for Chinese students; and, how to develop a complete "one-stop" educational system suitable for study; and, how to make a strategy of development for Chinese students; and, how to perfect set up the overseas students' education management system; which are the remaining tasks to be solved for. To achieve a win-win for both overseas students and South Korean local universities, it is very important and urgent works to do for administrators of Chinese students in all local universities of South Korea.
