  • This paper presents an experimental model-based vision system which can identify and locate object in scenes containing multiple occluded parts. The objent are assumed to be regid, planar parta. In any recognition system the type of object that might appear in the image dictates the type of knowledge that is needed to recognize the object. The data is reduced to a seguential list of points or pixel that appear on the boundary of the objects. Next the boundary of the object is smoothed using a polygonal approximation algorithm. Recognition consists in finding the prototype that matches model to image. The best match is obtained by optimising some similarity measure.

  • DuPont Teijin Films (DTF) have developed engineered substrates specifically for the flexible electronics market. $Teonex^{(R)}Q65$ is a biaxially oriented crystalline polyester with a tailored surface and it is emerging as a competitive material for the base substrate in OLED displays and active matrix backplanes. Given the dimensional reproducibility requirements in the display applications, uncontrolled moisture absorption during the processing cycle could potentially be far more significant than the inherent shrinkage of the base substrate. Understanding these effects and optimising the processing steps involved in device manufacture will be critical to achieving the ultimate performance that can be achieved with the base substrate.

  • Al doped Zinc Oxide, which is widely used as a transparent conductor in opto-electronic devices. In this paper, we find that the lateral variations of the parameters of the ZnO:Al films prepared by the rf magnetron sputtering can be reduced to acceptable levels by optimising the deposition parameters. The effect of bias voltage on the electrical, optical and morphological properties were investigated experimentally. we investigated sample properties of Bias Voltage change in 0 to 50 V.

  • This paper sums up the study of the soundproof facilities (noise barriers) to be placed on the test track section within the Seoul-Pusan H.S.T. project. The objective of this study is to determine optimum design of soundproof including height, length, location, sound absorbing materials for test track(chonan-taejon). This paper shows the model to design the shape and materials of noise barrier for high speed trains(TGV, ICE, ect). The design of soundproof facilities is to be conducted by MITHRA for the prediction of noise impact of the TGV and for optimising noise barriers in order to reduce the noise generated by high speed trains. A number of computer simulations are carried out in order to determine the specification of noise barrier on test track.

  • A software tool implementing cascaded SCF (Switched Capacitor Filter) is developed. A comprehensive procedure is described for the design of cascaded SCF, and some design considerations are discussed. In program several user-selectable filter approximation techniques, and two optimising methods which reduce the total capacitance are included. Analysis of the partial positive feedback and the effect of clock frequency to total capacitance are presented in detail. Two pratical examples are given to prove its validity in reducing the total capacitance. Developed tool can be used for general SCF generator.

  • This paper reports on an ongoing study investigating the feasibility of using an evolutionary method to develop the rules governing Self-Organised (SO) systems for use in swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles. In general, it is difficult to design swarm systems that follow explicit global behaviour. Unlike optimising a predefined objective function, the solution to the problem is the emergent behaviour in the SO systems which results from simultaneous interactions among agents and between agents and their environment. In this study, evolutionary algorithms are used to investigate their control and effectiveness in synthesising the weighting of different rules on SO emergent behaviour. Both homogeneous swarms and heterogeneous swarms were considered though the results provided are for a case study investigating the simplest problem a homogeneous swarm without mutation. Though simple this study does indicate the potential of the approach.

  • The challenge for companies is to bring to the market a stream of new and improved, added-value, products and services that enable the business to achieve higher margins and thus profits to re-invest in the business. Especially in these days, railway industry has met the competitive challenges of new transportation technologies or the demands of new passenger transportation needs with a spirit of innovation and change that has reshaped the business several times over the course of the century. Like other railway organization, KR-network business is committed to optimising long term performance for its clients in terms of safety, reliability and profitability.

  • The formulas offered so far on the settlement of raft footings provide only a rough estimate of the actual settlement. One of the best ways to make an accurate estimation is to conduct 3-dimensional finite element analyses. However, the required procedure for these analyses is comparatively cumbersome and expensive and needs a bit more expertise. In order to address this issue, in this study, a raft footing settlement formula was developed based on ninety finite element model configurations. The formula was derived using multi-parameter exponential regression analyses. The settlement formula incorporates the dimensions and the elastic modulus of a rectangular raft, vertical uniform pressure and soil moduli and Poisson's ratios up to 5 layers. In addition to this, an equation was offered for the estimation of average deflection of the raft. The proposed formula was checked against 3 well-documented case studies. The formula that is derived from 3D finite element analyses is useful in optimising the raft properties.

  • Standards concerning the determination of positioning accuracy and repeatability of numerically controlled(NC) machine tools have been published relentlessly over the last 20 years. Since the publication in 1988 of the International Standard 230-2 there has been a pronounced move, both at national and international standards level, to embrace further test procedures for a complete machine tool performance assessment. For example, measurements of angular (pitch, roll, and yaw) and straightness errors along linear axes are now commonplace and complement the existing positioning accuracy and repeatablity tests. More recently the subject of circularity evalutaion has also gained considerable interest. Here dynamic tests, using a kinematic ballbar or circular masterpiece, give an instant overview of the contouring ability of the machine in two axes at specific feedrates. This information is extremely important in optimising machining accuracy. This paper describes moves to complete the machine calibration package in national and international standardis- ation for the assessment of machine tool performance.

  • The key role of T cells in cancer immunotherapy is well established and is highlighted by the remarkable capacity of Ab-mediated checkpoint blockade to overcome T-cell exhaustion and amplify anti-tumor responses. However, total or partial tumor remission following checkpoint blockade is still limited to only a few types of tumors. Hence, concerted attempts are being made to devise new methods for improving tumor immunity. Currently, much attention is being focused on therapy with IL-2. This cytokine is a powerful growth factor for T cells and optimises their effector functions. When used at therapeutic doses for cancer treatment, however, IL-2 is highly toxic. Nevertheless, recent work has shown that modifying the structure or presentation of IL-2 can reduce toxicity and lead to effective anti-tumor responses in synergy with checkpoint blockade. Here, we review the complex interaction of IL-2 with T cells: first during normal homeostasis, then during responses to pathogens, and finally in anti-tumor responses.
