  • The Adaboost chooses a good set of features in rounds. On each round, it chooses the optimal feature and its threshold value by minimizing the weighted error of classification. The involved process of classification performs a hard decision. In this paper, we expand the process of classification to a soft fuzzy decision. We believe this expansion could allow some flexibility to the Adaboost algorithm as well as a good performance especially when the size of a training data set is not large enough. The typical Adaboost algorithm assigns a same weight to each training datum on the first round of a training process. We propose a new algorithm to assign different initial weights based on some statistical properties of involved features. In experimental results, we assess that the proposed method shows higher performance than the traditional one.

  • The purpose of study was to examine the effect of nonnutritive sucking(NNS) on behavioral state in preform infants. Fourteen infants (gestational age 28-35 weeks, M=31.86 ; birth weights 1095-2275g, M=1694g) admitted to NICU, serving as their controls were randomly administered 5 min of nonnutritive sucking and a control condition. Behavioral state was measured using the Anderson Behavioral State Scale(ABSS). Heart rates were obtained for each infant before and during NNS and bottle feeding. Data collecction was done by 3 experienced nurses in NICU 2 times a day for conseculive 4 days for each subject. Interrater reliability were .80-.90. The findings were as follows : 1. Preform infants averaged active restless states 58.93% in the prointervention phase and 27.32% in the NNS phase. Inactive awake states were 3.57% in the preintervention phase and 34.64% in the NNS phase. 2. There were significantly more positive changes to inactive awake states for the NNS intervention, Z=-2.35, p=.01. 3. There was no statistically significant difference in heart rate change between NNS intervention and control condition, z=-1.15, p=.24. 4. The rates of feeding success determined by finishing prescribed amount of milk by bottle feeding within 15 minutes were 83.94% in NNS intervention and 89.29% in control condition. The findings from this study confirmed that NNS is effective for behavioral state modulation and inducing optimal state for feeding in preform infant. The NNS intervention in nursing practice may help the transition of preform infants for nipple feeding.

  • A new metallic sandwich panel with a quasi-Kagome truss core subjected to bending load has been analyzed. First, equations of the failure loads corresponding to the eight failure modes are presented. Then, non-dimensional forms of the equations are derived as functions of three geometric variables, one material parameter (yield strain), one load index and one weight index. Failure maps are presented for a given weight index. By using the dimensionless forms of equations as the design constraints, two kinds of optimization are performed. One is based on the weight, that is, the objective function, namely, the dimensionless load is to be maximized for a given weight. Another is based on the load, that is, the dimensionless weight is to be minimized for a given load. The results of the two optimization processes are found to agree each other. The optimized geometric variables are derived as a function of given weights or failure loads. The performance of the quasi-Kagome truss as the core of a sandwich panel is evaluated by comparison with those of honeycomb cored and octet truss cored panels.

  • In this study, the multidisciplinary aerodynamic-structural optimal design is carried out for the supersonic fighter wing. Through the aeroelastic analyses of the various candidate wings, the aerodynamic and structural performances are calculated such as the lift coefficient, the drag coefficient and the deformation of the wing. In general, the supersonic fighter is maneuvered under the various flight conditions and those conditions must be considered all together during the design process. The multi-point design, therefore, is deemed essential. For this purpose, supersonic dash, long cruise range and high angle of attack maneuver are selected as representative design points. Based on the calculated performances of the candidate wings, the response surfaces for the objectives and constraints are generated and the supersonic fighter wing is designed for better aerodynamic performances and less weights than the baseline. At each design point, the single-point design is performed to obtain better performances. Finally, the multi-point design is performed to improve the aerodynamic and structural performances for all design points. The optimization results of the multi-point design are compared with those of the single-point designs and analyzed in detail.

  • Case-based reasoning (CBR) is a reasoning technique that reuses past cases to find a solution to the new problem. It often shows significant promise for improving effectiveness of complex and unstructured decision making. It has been applied to various problem-solving areas including manufacturing, finance and marketing for the reason. However, the design of appropriate case indexing and retrieval mechanisms to improve the performance of CBR is still a challenging issue. Most of the previous studies on CBR have focused on the similarity function or optimization of case features and their weights. According to some of the prior research, however, finding the optimal k parameter for the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) is also crucial for improving the performance of the CBR system. In spite of the fact, there have been few attempts to optimize the number of neighbors, especially using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. In this study, we introduce a genetic algorithm (GA) to optimize the number of neighbors to combine. This study applies the novel approach to Korean stock market. Experimental results show that the GA-optimized k-NN approach outperforms other AI techniques for stock market prediction.

  • Backpressure based scheduling has been considered as a promising technique for improving the throughput of a wide range of communication networks. However, this scheduling technique has not been well studied for heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a virtual-queue based backpressure scheduling (VQB) algorithm for heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks. The VQB algorithm introduces a simple virtual queue for each flow at a node for backpressure scheduling, whose length depends on the cache size of the node. When calculating flow weights and making scheduling decisions, the length of a virtual queue is used instead of the length of a real queue. We theoretically prove that VQB is throughput-optimal. Simulation results show that the VQB algorithm significantly outperforms a classical backpressure scheduling algorithm in heterogeneous multi-hop wireless networks in terms of the packet delivery ratio, packet delivery time, and average sum of the queue lengths of all nodes per timeslot.

  • Multi-criteria stock selection is a critical issue for effective investment since the improper stock investment might cause many problems affecting investors negatively. Investors need a range of financial indicators while they are choosing the optimal set of stocks to invest. This study aims to rank the stock of agriculture companies indexed on the Vietnam Stock Exchange Market. The data of 13 agriculture companies during the 2016-2019 periods was analyzed by analytical hierarchy process (AHP) integrated with grey relational analysis (GRA), multi-objective optimization ratio analysis (MOORA), and technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The AHP method is employed to determine the weights of the proposed financial ratios, and GRA, TOPSIS, and MOORA approaches are used to obtain final ranking. The results indicated that HSL is the top stock with the highest rank and GRA, MOORA, and TOPSIS rankings have strong correlation values between 0.78-1. The findings suggest that the integrated model could be implemented effectively to specific analysis of industries such as oil and gas, textiles, food, and electronics in future research. Further, other techniques like COPRAS, KEMIRA, and EDAS could be employed to evaluate the financial performance of other companies to solve investment problems.

  • Cellulase components, CMCase(Cx) and Avicelase$(C_1)$, were partially prueified, from the culture extract of a strain of Trichoderma koningii by column chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and the step of gel filtration through Sphadex G-150, Optimum pH of CMCase was 5.2 and Avicelase showed the highest activity at pH 5.6 in acetate buffer. Optimal temperatures for activities of CMCase and Avicelase were $50^{\circ}C\;and\;60^{\circ}C, $ respectively. More than 70% of the activities of two enzymes were remained after heating at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30 min and Avicelase is more stable than any other fungal enzymes. The Michaelis constants, Km, of CMCase and Avicelase were 0.116% of CMC and 0.281% of avicel. And also the values of maximum velocity, Vmax, of CMCase and Avicelase were $23.20{\mu}g\;and\;2.54{\mu}g$ of reducing sugar per min. Of the metal ions tested against the activites of CMCase and Avicelase, $Cu^{++}, \; Hg^{++}, \;and\;Pb^{{++}$ are remarkably effective inhibitors. The molecular weights of Cx and $C_1$ component were estimated to be about 47, 000 and 61, 000 by gel filtration method.
