  • Jung et al.(2015) suggest the two-phase warranty model, which is a general type of warranty model. Under the two-phase warranty, the warranty period is divided into two intervals, one of which is for renewing replacement warranty, and the other is for minimal repair warranty. And warranty policies play a very important role in product marketing. In this paper, we suggest the optimal warranty policy for free extended two-phase warranty. To determine the optimal warranty period, we adopt the expected profit per unit product. So, the expressions for the total expected cost, the sale price and the expected profit per unit product from the manufacturer's point of view are derived. Also, we discuss the optimal warranty period and the numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed the warranty policy.

  • A warranty is a contractual obligation incurred by a producer in connection with the sale of a product. The warranty specifies that producer agrees to remedy certain failures in the product sold. There have been many articles dealing with warranties, but they have studied about optimal warranty cost for the warranty period. In this study, an optimal preventive maintenance time interval is computed. The optimal preventive maintenance time interval minimizing warranty cost for the warranty period is discussed. It is assumed that failure rate is increasing and the failure rate after preventive maintenance or corrective maintenance lies between good as new and bad as old.

  • In this paper we present the optimal replacement policies following the expiration of combination warranty. We consider two types of combination warranty policies: renewing warranty and non-renewing warranty. The criterion used to determine the optimal replacement period is the expected cost rate per unit time from the user'perspective. The optimal maintenance period following the expiration of combination warranty is obtained. Some numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • In this paper, we consider a renewable repair-replacement warranty strategy with age-dependent minimal repair service and propose an optimal maintenance model during post-warranty period. Such model implements the repair time limit under warranty and follows with a certain form of system maintenance strategy when the warranty expires. The expected cost rate is investigated per unit time during the life period of the system as for the standard for optimality. Based on the cost design defined for each failure of the system, the expected cost rate is derived during the life period of the system, considering that a renewable minimal repair-replacement warranty strategy with the repair time limit is provided to the customer under warranty. When the warranty is finished, the maintenance of the system is the customer's responsibility. The life period of the system is defined and the expected cost rate is developed from the viewpoint of the customer's perspective. We obtain the optimal maintenance strategy during the maintenance period by minimizing such a cost rate after a warranty expires. Numerical examples using field data are shown to exemplify the application of the methodologies proposed in this paper.

  • This paper develops the optimal periodic preventive maintenance policies following the expiration of warranty: renewing warranty and non-renewing warranty. After the warranty period is expired, the system undergoes the PM periodically and is minimally repaired at each failure between two successive PMs. Firstly, we determine the expected cost rate per unit time and the expected downtime per unit time for the periodic PM model. Then the overall value function suggested by Jiang and Ji(2002) is applied to obtain the optimal PM period and the optimal PM number. Finally, the numerical examples are presented for illustrative purpose.

  • This paper discusses the methods of determining optimal warranty period for repairable goods. The demand of the product is assumed to increase with the length of the warranty period. Good-as-new repair and minimal repair models are considered. The method of obtaining optimal warranty period is explored when the failure distribution is an exponential or a Weibull. The case of discounting all associated costs continuously over time is also considered.

  • In this paper, optimal bum-in time to minimize the total mean cost, which is the sum of manufacturing cost with burn-in and cumulative warranty-related cost, is obtained. When the products with cumulative pro-rata warranty have high failure rate in the early period (infant mortality period), a burn-in procedure is adopted to eliminate early product failures. After burn-in, the posterior product life distribution and the warranty-related cost are dependent on burn-in time; long burn-in period may reduce the warranty-related cost, but it increases the manufacturing cost. The paper provides a methodology to obtain total mean cost under burn-in and cumulative pro-rata warranty. Property of the optimal burn-in time is analyzed, and numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are studied.

  • In this paper, we consider the periodic preventive maintenance model for a repairable system following the expiration of extended warranty under replacement-repair warranty. Under the replacement-repair warranty, the failed system is replaced or minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. Also, under extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user during the original extended warranty period. As a criterion of the optimality, we utilize the expected cost rate per unit time during the life cycle from the user's perspective. And then we determine the optimal preventive maintenance period and the optimal preventive maintenance number by minimizing the expected cost rate per unit time. Finally, the optimal periodic preventive maintenance policy is given for Weibull distribution case.

  • This paper is concerned with cost analysis and determination of warranty period in a stepdown warranty policy. Manufacturer's warranty cost is analyzed for nonrepairable item, where the warranty is assumed to be renewed at any failure within the warranty period. It is shown that from this result in free replacement policy, pro-rata policy and hybrid policy can be easily calculated. The method of determining optimal warranty period is also explored.

  • This paper develops a periodic preventive maintenance(PM) policy following the expiration of warranty. Two types of warranty are considered: renewing warranty and non-renewing warranty. Also, we consider the situation where each PM cost is an increasing function of the PM effect. We determine the optimal number of PM's before replacing the system by a new one and the optimal length of period for the periodic PM following the expiration of warranty. Explicit solutions to determine the optimal periodic PM are presented for the Weibull distribution case.
