The purpose of this study was to scientifically activate the forest healing program activities for the elderly. The predicted mean vote (PMV) and predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD), which are indices of thermal comfort in the thermal environment, and degree of canopy closure were compared and analyzed. Based on this information, the study objective was to present the appropriate conditions for maintaining the best comfort for the elderly. Six deck road shelters, which are the most active locations in forest healing programs among the National Center for Forest Therapy, were selected as the study sites. The results indicated that in the case of the conditions of 1 clo (clothing insulation value) and 1 met (metabolic rate) at an air temperature of 19 to 21 degrees in September on the measurement date, the PMV values ranged between -1.85 and -0.98 at all sites, and PPD values ranged between 25.60% and 68.68%. On the other hand, in the case of 1.3 clo and 1.6 met conditions, the PMV values ranged between -0.08 and 0.23 for all sites and PPD values ranged between 5.40 and 6.18. As shown above, the difference in thermal environment comfort and satisfaction according to the condition of the amount of metabolism and the amount of clothing could be confirmed. In addition, an analysis of the relation between PPD and canopy closure suggested a significantly positive correlation between them, and it was found that canopy closure was a factor affecting thermal comfort. Studies on effects of forest thermal environmental comfort and canopy closure on forest healing program areas should be conducted extensively according to seasonal conditions to provide information that can be used for more effective forest healing programs.
This study was performed to optimize the processing conditions and to select the optimum species for colored sweet potato chips (Shinjami, Juhwangmi and Hayanmi varieties) baked by far-infrared radiation. Sweet potato chips were prepared by different slicing thickness (1~3 mm), concentration of sucrose solution for soaking (15~30%), blanching time (15~60 sec), baking temperature ($110{\sim}140^{\circ}C$) and baking time (23~31 min) through sensory evaluation and failure stress measurement. Optimal processing condition of sweet potato chips using Shinjami was determined to 1 mm, 20%, 45 sec, $120^{\circ}C$ and 31 min, and those using Juhwangmi was determined as 1 mm, 25%, 45 sec, $130^{\circ}C$ and 29 min. Sweet potato chips using Hayanmi was determined as 1 mm, 20%, 45 sec, $120^{\circ}C$ and 31 min, respectively. Free sugar content of sweet potato chips was higher in chips than in raw materials. In the sensory evaluation, appearance, sweet taste, hardness, and overall acceptance were higher in Juhwangmi than in the Shinjami and Hayanmi varieties. Overall acceptance, sugar content, b-value and failure stress were highly correlated among factors affecting the sensory characteristics (p<0.01). From the results of this study, Juhwangmi variety was selected for production of sweet potato chips.
In this experiment, photochemical reaction has been applied to destroy TCE in water phase. The main target of this work is to investigate the technical feasibility of large scale of solar detoxification reactor for water treatment. The results have revealed that solar detoxification utilizing photon energy from the sun is the most attractive process to decompose organic toxins in water phase at room temperature. The detailed results from this work are as follows; (1) The highest conversion ratio of TCE was obtained by using $TiO_2$, annatase as a photocatalyst among $TiO_2$ anatase, $TiO_2$ rutile and $V_2O_5$ under the same experimental condition. The anatase crystal structure was confirmed with XRD analysis, and its surface area was 7.748 $m^2/g$ from the BET-$N_2$ measurement (2) 0.1 wt% of $TiO_2$ anatase has been adopted as optimal quantity for batch slurry reactor at this experimental conditions. (3) The effect of hydrogen peroxide on the conversion of TCE was investigated. Its optimal quantity was 0.06 vol. % under this experimental conditions. (4) The effect of oxygen on the conversion of TCE also was studied by controlling the head space in photoreactor. Results indicated that sufficient amount of oxygen should be supplied to accomplish the highest conversion rate of TCE in water phase.

Mechanical alloying was carried out to produce $CrSi_2$ thermoelectric compound using a mixture of elemental $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ powders. An optimal milling and heat treatment conditions to obtain the single phase of $CrSi_2$ compound with fine microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry measurement. $CrSi_2$ intermetallic compound with a grain size of 70 nm could be obtained by MA of $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ powders for 70 hours and subsequently annealed at $650^{\circ}C$. Consolidation of the MA powders was performed in a spark plasma sintering (SPS) machine using graphite dies at $600{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ under 60 MPa. The shrinkage of MA samples during SPS consolidation process increased gradually with increasing temperature up to $1000^{\circ}C$ and relatively significant at about $600^{\circ}C$. We tend to believe that these behaviors are deeply related to form a $CrSi_2$ compound during heating process, as can be realized from the DSC measurement. Electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient of sintered bodies were measured up to $900^{\circ}C$. Seebeck coefficient and power factor of $Cr_{33}Si_{67}$ compact prepared by MA and SPS at $1000^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum value of $125{\mu}V/K$ at $400^{\circ}C$ and $4.3{\times}10^{-4}W/mK^2$ at $350^{\circ}C$, respectively.
Bromotrifluoromethane(halon-1301) and bromochlorodifluoromethane(halon-1211) have been widely used as a clean fire extinguishing agents due to their outstanding properties. However, production and use of halon are currently being phased out under an international agreements Montreal Protocol because of global environmental concerns and HFCs have been considered as promising alter-natives for the replacement of halon since their ozone depletion potentials are low. The vapor-liquid equilibrium data are required as important basic information in evaluating the solubility of clean fire extinguishing agents and determining their optimal compositions. In this work, we chose HFCs such as HFC-22 HFC-125, and HFC-l34a for gaseous fire extinguishing agents and nitrogen as a pressurization gas for a proper jet velocity of these agents. Phase equilibria for binary mixtures of nitrogen/HFC-22, nitrogen/HFC-125, and nitrogen/HFC-l34a were measured in the temperature range from 283.15K to 303.15K. For equilibrium measurement, we used a circulation type apparatus in which both vapor and liquid phases were continuously recirculated. The experimental data were relatively well correlated with the Peng-Robinson equation of state with Wong-Sandier mixing rules.

A 440MHz wireless and passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) based chemical sensor was developed on a $41^{\circ}YX\;LiNbO_3$ piezoelectric substrate for simultaneous measurement of $CO_2$ gas and relative humidity (RH) using a reflective delay line pattern as the sensor element. The reflective delay line is composed of an interdigital transducer (IDT) and several shorted grating reflectors. A Teflon AF 2400 and a hydrophilic $SiO_2$ layer were used as $CO_2$ and water vapor sensitive films. The coupling of mode (COM) modeling was conducted to determine optimal device parameters prior to fabrication. According to simulation results, the device was fabricated and then wirelessly measured using the network analyzer. The measured reflective coefficient $S_{11}$ in the time domain showed high signal/noise (S/N) ratio, small signal attenuation, and few spurious peaks. In the $CO_2$ and humidity testing, high sensitivity ($2^{\circ}/ppm$ for $CO_2$ detection and $7.45^{\circ}/%$RH for humidity sensing), good linearity and repeatability were observed in the $CO_2$ concentration ranges of $75{\sim}375ppm$ and humidity levels of $20{\sim}80%$RH. Temperature and humidity compensations were also investigated during the sensitivity evaluation process.
This study estimated the daily maximum snow depth using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model in Korean Peninsula. First, the optimal ANN model structure was determined through the trial-and-error approach. As a result, daily precipitation, daily mean temperature, and daily minimum temperature were chosen as the input data of the ANN. The number of hidden layer was set to 1 and the number of nodes in the hidden layer was set to 10. In case of using the observed value as the input data of the ANN model, the cross validation correlation coefficient was 0.87, which is higher than that of the case in which the daily maximum snow depth was spatially interpolated using the Ordinary Kriging method (0.40). In order to investigate the performance of the ANN model for estimating the daily maximum snow depth of the ungauged area, the input data of the ANN model was spatially interpolated using Ordinary Kriging. In this case, the correlation coefficient of 0.49 was obtained. The performance of the ANN model in mountainous areas above 200m above sea level was found to be somewhat lower than that in the rest of the study area. This result of this study implies that the ANN model can be used effectively for the accurate and immediate estimation of the maximum snow depth over the whole country.
This study was conducted to estimate the relative performance of modules with changed characteristics due to long term exposure to the outdoor environment, with a specially made test device for simultaneous measurement of real time power output from the photovoltaic array, taking into account the inclined panel, direct irradiation, power being generated, temperature as well as the optimal analysis timing. In terminology description, M is an abbreviation of module and Group A, Group B are 10 modules series connection (1~10 of M), (11~20 of M) for each of them respectively. The overall mean voltage difference of M-18 with the lowest power output and M-14 with the highest output is-2.13V and it was identifiable that voltage difference was more concentrated to Group B. In addition, in case of M-2 and M-7, M-8, when compared with M-14, the overall mean voltage difference was -0.92V, -1.56 and -0.91V respectively showing the more concentration to Group A. When the temperature of module went up by $1^{\circ}C$, the mean voltage was reduced by 0.35V. For current, Group A was lower than Group B by-0.022A and the ratio of each group was 49.68% and 50.32% respectively, presumably the module with deteriorated properties were more concentrated to Group A relatively. From the comparison of relations with the comprehensive accumulation, M-2, M-7, M-8, M-16 and M-18 were those with deterioration of performance to the worst, thereby requiring precision examination. In comparative efficiency, M-14 was the most excellent one as 12.19% while M-18 as 10.53% was identified that its efficiency was comparatively rapidly reduced.

This study aimed to identify the optimal street tree planting method to improve the summer thermal environment in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The effects of road direction and street tree planting patterns on urban thermal environments using ENVI-met simulations were analyzed. The 68 scenarios were analyzed based on four road directions and 17 planting patterns. The results showed that tree planting had a reducing air temperature, mean radiant temperature, human thermal sensation (PET and UTCI). The most effective planting pattern among all scenarios was low tree height (6m), wide crown width (9m), high leaf area index (3.0), and narrow planting interval (8m). The largest improvement in the thermal environment was the northern sidewalk of the east-west road. Since this study used computer simulations, the difference from real urban spaces should be considered, and further research is needed through field measurement and consideration of more variables.

In this paper, the effects of annealing conditions on the structural ((002) intensity, FWHM, d-spacing, grain size, (002) peak position), optical (UV peak, UV peak position) and electrical properties (carrier concentrations, resistivity, mobility) of ZnO films were investigated. ZnO films were deposited onto SiO$_2$/si substrates by RF magnetron sputtering from a ZnO target. The substrate was not heated during deposition. ZnO films were annealed in temperature ranges of $500\sim650^{\circ}C$ in the O$_2$ flow for 5$\sim$20 min. The film average thicknesses were in the range of 291 nm. The surface morphologies and structures of the samples were characterize by SEM and XRD, respectively. The optical properties were evaluated by photoluminescence (PL) measurement at room temperature (RT) using a He-Cd 325 nm laser. As the annealing temperature and time vary, the following relations were also observed: (1) proportional relationships among UV intensity (002) intensity, and grain size exist, (2) UV intensity is inversely proportional to FWHM, (3) there is no special relationship between UV intensity and electron carrier concentrations, (4) d-spacing is inversely proportional to (002) peak position, (5) UV peak position in the range of 3.20$\sim$3.24 eV means that ZnO films have a n-type conductivity which was consistent with that obtained from the electrical property, (6) the optimal conditions for the best optical and structural characteristics were found to be oxygen fraction, (O$_2$/(O$_2$+Ar)) of 0.2, RF power of 240W, substrate temperature of RT, annealing condition of 600$^{\circ}C$ for 20 min, and sputtering pressure of 20 mTorr.
