  • Though the Hough transform(HT) is a well-known method for detecting analytical shape represented by a number of free parameters, the basic property of the HT, the one-to-many mapping from an image spare to a Hough space, causes the innate problem, the sensitivity to noise. This basic problem also deteriorates the quality of detected lines and makes the detected line deviated from the real one or generates some bogus, multiple lines where only one real line exists. The size of Hough space also affects the quality of detected lines. In this paper, we analyzed the line distortions in the traditional Hough transform and showed that the distortions are relieved in the edge strength Hough transform(ESHT), which is a modified HT. However the usage of expanded edge and edge strength in ESHT can cause some new line distortions which do not exist in the HT. These new ones can be solved by a proper setting of decreasing and broadening parameter values and the optimal values can be determined only by some pre-determined values. We also illustrated several examples to show the distortion-decreasing property of ESHT.

  • In this paper, we proposed the dimensional system and pattern of middle-aged women's rashguard swimwear for breast cancer patients. First, a survey of 37 breast cancer patients was conducted to determine the preferred swimsuit design for breast cancer patients. According to a survey of breast cancer patients, a rashguard swimwear with a low-exposure chest was designed. It has a pocket shape in which the cap is easy to insert and the cap is fixed. Second, we developed a dimensional system for swimsuits for breast cancer patients. Using direct measurement data from Size Korea for 1,625 women aged 30 to 69, 17-sizes for breast cancer patient's swimsuits were set through cross-analysis of major dimensions, with a coverage rate of 74.3%. It also extracted a standard size of bust circ. 90cm, hip circ. 95cm, and trunk circ. 150cm. Third, we developed a pattern for the central size of the swimsuit for breast cancer patients. For this purpose, we first produced the first central size pattern, and then completed the pattern after modifying it through the second and third wearing experiments. Experimental suits were produced at each pattern-making stage to evaluate wearing fit and motion suitability. Finally, the reduction rate of each dimension item for optimal pattern production was obtained, and the lashguard swimwear pattern for breast cancer patients was developed.

  • The SharkHartmann wavefront sensors are the most popular devices to measure wavefront in the field of adaptive optics. The Shack-Hartmann sensors measure the centroids of spot irradiance distribution formed by each corresponding micro-lens. The centroids are linearly proportional to the local mean slopes of the wavefront defined within the corresponding sub-aperture. The wavefront is then reconstructed from the evaluated local mean slopes. The uncertainty of the Shack-Hartmann sensor is caused by various factors including the detector noise, the limited size of the detector, the magnitude and profile of spot irradiance distribution, etc. This paper investigates the noise propagation in two major centroid evaluation algorithms through computer simulation; 1st order moments of the irradiance algorithms i.e. center of gravity algorithm, and correlation algorithm. First, the center of gravity algorithm is shown to have relatively large dependence on the magnitudes of noises and the shape & size of irradiance sidelobes, whose effects are also shown to be minimized by optimal thresholding. Second, the correlation algorithm is shown to be robust over those effects, while its measurement accuracy is vulnerable to the size variation of the reference spot. The investigation is finally confirmed by experimental measurements of defocus wavefront aberrations using a Shack-Hartmann sensor using those two algorithms.

  • This paper presents the results of study of linear oscillating electric machine; Cartesian, cylindrical type with permanent magnet, flux reversal, cylindrical reluctance, and transverse flux type. The focus of the work is the suggestion of the characteristics and design process of propose topology, respectively. First of all, there are five types of the proposed to this study on the basis of the existing literatures; Cartesian type, cylindrical type, flux reversal type, cylindrical reluctance type, and transverse flux type. All topology is achieved using equivalent magnetic circuit considering leakage elements as initial modeling. Cartesian type is investigated by number of phases and number of pole pairs using optimal process. A cylindrical type is described by number of phases and displacement of stroke. The flux reversal type is proposed based on the symmetrical and non symmetrical stator cores of the surface mounted PMs mover, and non slanted PMs and slanted PMs of the flux concentrating PMs mover. A cylindrical reluctance type is studied by the shape of mover teeth in geometric aspect to reduce force ripple and increase magnetic flux. A transverse flux type is considered by dividing the transverse flux electric excited and the transverse flux permanent magnet excited. It is significant that the study gives a design rules and features of linear oscillating electric machine.

  • Cymbidium 'Purple Star' (Miake 'Pieta' ${\times}$ 'Allstar Mariane') was developed from a cross between hybrids at the National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS), Rural Development Administration (RDA) in 2008. A cross was made between purple colored flower C. Miake 'Pieta' as maternal line and dark pink colored flower, C. 'Allstar Mariane' as paternal line in 1995. The seed germination, cultivation, selection, and characteristic trials were conducted from 1996 to 2002. The line was named as Wongyo 'F1-21' and phenotype was characterized in 2007 as a new cultivar. The 'Purple Star' has dark purple basal color (RHS, GP186A) on both of sepal and petal with red lip (RHS, RP59A). 'Purple Star' has about 10.7 flowers per flower stalk and flower size of 7.6 cm. General appearance of petals and sepals is slightly incurved shape. The plant size is intermediate having erect peduncle. Blooming is started from the late of January (mid-winter) under optimal culture condition. Leaf attitude and twisting is erect and weak respectively. This hybrid has attractive floral arrangement, long flower stalk (78.4 cm) and vigorous growth. 'Purple Star' has a great potential for exporting to Chinese market.

  • In the summer season, natural ventilation is commonly used to reduce the inside air temperature of greenhouse when it rises above the optimal level. The greenhouse shape, vent design, and position play a critical role in the effectiveness of natural ventilation. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was employed to investigate the effect of different roof vent designs along with side vents on the buoyancy-driven natural ventilation. The boussinesq hypothesis was used to simulate the buoyancy effect to the whole computational domain. RNG K-epsilon turbulence model was utilized, and a discrete originates (DO) radiation model was used with solar ray tracing to simulate the effect of solar radiation. The CFD model was validated using the experimentally obtained greenhouse internal temperature, and the experimental and computed results agreed well. Furthermore, this model was adopted to compare the internal greenhouse air temperature and ventilation rate for seven different roof vent designs. The results revealed that the inside-to-outside air temperature differences of the greenhouse varied from 3.2 to $9.6^{\circ}C$ depending on the different studied roof vent types. Moreover, the ventilation rate was within the range from 0.33 to $0.49min^{-1}$. Our findings show that the conical type roof ventilation has minimum inside-to-outside air temperature difference of $3.2^{\circ}C$ and a maximum ventilation rate of $0.49min^{-1}$.

  • The overdrive hub clutch is attached to a 6-speed automatic transmission to reduce fuel consumption by using the additional power of the engine. This paper proposes a means to minimize the load and roll-over ratio on the punch during the piercing process for the overdrive hub clutch product. Die clearance, shear angle, and friction coefficient, which can affect the load and roll-over ratio of the punch during processing, were set as the design variables. Sensitivity analysis was also conducted to determine the influence of each design variable on the punch load and roll-over ratio. As a result, shear angle, friction coefficient and die clearance were found to be sensitive to load and roll-over ratio. The punch load and roll-over ratio were set as the objective function and the equation of each design variable and objective function was derives using the Response Surface Method. Finally, the optimal value of the design variables was derived using the Response Surface Method. Application of this model to finite element analysis resulted in 22.14% improvement in the roll-over ratio of the punch load and material.

  • From a sample of bamboo byproduct, the protease-producing yeast strain CO-1 was newly isolated. Strain CO-1 is spherical to ovoid in shape and measures $3.1-4.0{\times}3.8-4.4{\mu}m$. For the growth of strain CO-1, the optimal temperature and initial pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and 4.0, respectively. The strain was able to grow in 0.0-15.0%(w/v) NaCl and 0.0-9.0%(v/v) ethanol. Based on a phylogenetic analysis of its 18S rDNA sequences, strain CO-1 was identified as Pichia anomala. The extracellular protease produced by P. anomala CO-1 was partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, which resulted in a 14.6-fold purification and a yield of 7.2%. The molecular mass of the protease was recorded as approximately 30 kDa via zymogram. The protease activity reached its maximum when 1.0%(w/v) CMC was used as the carbon source, 1.0%(w/v) yeast extract was used as the nitrogen source, and 0.3%(w/v) $MnSO_4$ was used as the mineral source. The protease revealed the highest activity at pH 7.0 and $30^{\circ}C$. This enzyme maintained more than 75% of its stability at a pH range of 4.0-10.0. After heating at $65^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, the neutral protease registered at 60% of its original activity. The protease production coincided with growth and attained a maximal level during the post-exponential phase.

  • In arc-welding applying to the present automobile part manufacturing process, a wrist-hollow type arc welding robot can shorten the welding cycle time, because feedability of a welding wire is not affected by a robot posture and thus facilitates high-quality arc welding, based on stable feeding with no entanglement. In this paper, we will propose the optimization of wrist design for a wrist-hollow type 6-Axis articulated robot. Specifically, we will perform the investigation on the optimized design of inner diameter of hollow arms (Axis 4 and Axis 6) and width of the upper arm by using the simulation of robot motion characteristics, using a Genetic Algorithm (i.e., GA). Our simulations are based on $SolidWorks^{(R)}$ for robot modeling, $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for GA optimization, and $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ for analyzing dynamic characteristics of a robot. Especially $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ is incorporated in the GA module of $MATLAB^{(R)}$ for the optimization process. The results of the simulations will be verified by using $RecurDyn^{(R)}$ to show that the driving torque of each axis of the writs-hollow 6-axis robot with the optimized wrist design should be smaller than the rated output torque of each joint servomotor. Our paper will be a guide for improving the wrist-hollow design by optimizing the wrist shape at a detail design stage when the driving torque of each joint for the wrist-hollow 6-axis robot (to being developed) is not matched with the servomotor specifications.

  • After the resonator on the basis of the wave-filter theory was designed to control the waves with a specific frequency range surging into the harbor, the several case with the use of resonator have been reported in some part of sea, including the port of Long Beach, USA, and yacht harbor at Rome, Italy in order to control the long-period wave motion from the vessels. Recently, the utility and applicability of the resonator has been sufficiently verified in respect of the control of tsunami approximated as the solitary wave and/or the super long-period waves. However, the case with the application of tsunami in the real sea have not been reported yet. In this research, the respective case with the use of existing resonator at the port of Mukho and Imwon located in the eastern coast of South Korea were studied by using the numerical analysis through the COMCOT model adapting the reduction rate of 1983 Central East Sea tsunami and 1993 Hokkaido Southwest off tsunami. Consequently, the effectiveness of resonator against tsunami in the real sea was confirmed through the reduction rate of maximum 40~50% at the port of Mukho, and maximum 21% at the port of Imwom, respectively. In addition, it was concluded that it is necessary to study about the various case with application of different shape, arrangement, and size of resonator in order to design the optimal resonator considering the site condition.
