Dispersion management (DM), optical phase conjugation (OPC), and the combination of DM and OPC are promising techniques to compensate for optical signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion and nonlinear Kerr effects. The system performance improvement in DM links combined with OPC has been reported; however, the fixed residual dispersion per span (RDPS) usually used in these links restricts the flexibility of link configuration. Thus, in this paper, a flexible optical link configuration with artificially distributed single-mode fiber (SMF) lengths and RDPS in the combination of DM and OPC is proposed. Simulation results show that the best artificial distribution pattern is the gradually descending distribution of SMF lengths and the gradually ascending distribution of RDPS, as the number of fiber spans is increased, regardless of the average RDPS, the optimal net residual dispersion, and the dispersion coefficient of the dispersion compensating fiber.
The omnidirectional mobility of a mobile robot may lose significance in motion control, unless the isotropy characteristics of the mechanism is maintained well. This paper investigates the local and global isotropy of an omnidirectional mobile robot with three caster wheels. All possible actuations with different number and combination of rotating and steering joints are considered. First, the kinematic model based on velocity decomposition and the algebraic conditions for the local isotropy are obtained. Second, the geometric conditions for the local isotropy are derived and all isotropic configurations are fully identified. Third, the global isotropy index is examined to determine the optimal parameters in terms of actuation set, characteristic length, and steering link length.
Various jumping robot platforms have been developed to carry out missions such as rescues, explorations, or inspections of dangerous environments. We suggested a jumping robot platform using energy conversion of the elastic body like the bar of a pole vault, which is the main part in which elastic force occurs. The compliant link was optimized by an optimization method based on Taguchi methodology, and the robot's leaping ability was improved. Among the parameters, the length, width, and thickness of the link were selected as design variables first while the others were fixed. The level of the design variables was settled, and an orthogonal array about its combination was made. In the experiment, dynamic simulations were conducted using the DAFUL program, and response table and sensitivity analyses were performed. We found optimized values through a level average analysis and sensitivity analysis. As a result, the maximum leaping height of the optimized robot increased by more than 6.2% compared to the initial one, and these data will be used to design a new robot.
Bipedal robots tend to have greater mobility than conventional treaded or wheeled robots yet they are commonly complicated by instabilities in balance. This paper presents a bipedal robot based upon Jansen's locomotive mechanism which addresses these challenges in stability and efficiency. In order to achieve a functioning robot, we considered a multitude of variables in its motion including, the Ground Score, Drag Score, step size, foot lift, stride, and instantaneous speed of the Jansen mechanism. Matlab and Jansen Opt solver were used to optimize the legs of the robot. A trial and error experimental method was used to determine the best combination of link lengths, and m.Sketch was used to model our results. Finally, we drew the entirety of the robot's figure by using the Edison design.
A new TCP protocol can succeed for large bandwidth delay product when it meets network bandwidth utilization efficiency and fair sharing. We introduce a novel congestion control algorithm which employs queueing delay information in order to calculate the amount of congestion window increment in increase phase, and reduces congestion window to optimal estimated bound as packet loss occurs. Combination of such methods guarantees that the proposal utilizes fully network bandwidth, recovers quickly from packet loss in wireless link, and preserves fairness for competing flows mixed short RTT and long RTT. Our simulations show that features of the proposed TCP meet the desired requirements.
