This study attempted to find optimum extract range of active ingredient for barley sprouts (Hordeum vulgare L.). Extracts from Hordeum vulgare L. were made by microwave extraction method and total polyphenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), DPPH radical scavenging activity (DPPH) were measured with extract of Hordeum vulgare L.. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to a extraction process, and central composite design (CCD) was also used for this process to examine the optimum condition. Independent variables ($X_n$) are concentration of ethanol ($X_1$: 0, 25, 50, 75, 100%), microwave power ($X_2$: 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 W), extraction time ($X_3$: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 min). Dependent variables ($Y_n$) are TPC ($Y_1$), TFC ($Y_2$), DPPH radical scavenging ($Y_3$). It is formed by sixteen conditions to extract. The $R^2$ value of dependent variables is ranged from 0.90 to 0.97 (p<0.05). Experiments values within the optimal range (40% of ethanol concentration, 120 W of microwave power, 18 min of extraction time) were 3.74 mg GAE/g (TPC), 3.00 mg RE/g (TFC), 35.43% (DPPH), respectively. Under the optimized conditions, predicted value showed no significant difference comparing with the experimental values.
Fluid replacement and conductivity logging have been applied to three boreholes in coastal aquifer in order to identify permeable fractures and to estimate the origin of saline groundwater. Fluid replacement technique measures and monitors the change of borehole fluid conductivity with depth under ambient or pumping condition after replacing the original borehole fluid with different one (by pumping out original one and injecting simultaneously new one at the hole bottom). After the replacement of borehole fluid, the change of fluid conductivity can be the direct indicator of the intake flow of formation water through aquifer such as permeable fractures or porous formations. The conductivity profiles measured with times therefore indicate the locations of permeable zone or fractures within the open hole or the fully slotted casing hole. As a result of fluid conductivity logging for three boreholes at coastal area in Yeonggwang, Jeonam Province, it is interpreted that the seawater intrusion in this area is not by remnant saline groundwater after land reclamation but mainly by intrusion of saline water through fractured rock. This approach might be useful for assessing the characteristics of seawater intrusion, the design of optimal pumping, the mitigation of seawater intrusion using freshwater injection, and estimating the hydraulic characteristics in coastal aquifer.
Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize extraction conditions preserving valuable functional properties of fluid Cheonggukjang obtained from red ginseng. Based on a central composite design, the study plan was established using variations in microwave power, ethanol concentration, and extraction time. Regression analysis was applied to obtain a mathematical model. A maximum electron donating ability (EDA) of 99.09% was obtained under the specific extraction conditions of microwave power 135.62 W, ratio of solvent to sample contents. 3.60 g/mL, and an extraction time of 11.79 min. The maximum inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity was 10.02% at 119.16 W, 4.02 g/mL, and 5.57 min. The maximum superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity was 63.83% under the extraction conditions of 125.29 W, 4.04 g/mL, and 11.02 min. Based on superposition of four-dimensional RSM data obtained to optimize electron donating ability, nitrite-scavenging ability, inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity, and SOD-like activity, the optimum ranges of extraction conditions were found to be a microwave power of $l{\sim}85 W$, a ratio of solvent to sample content of $1.4{\sim}2.8\;g/mL$, and an extraction time of $6.5{\sim}11\;min$.

We practiced fresh water injection test to identify its applibility as a method of seawater intrusion mitigation technique, and monitored the change of borehole fluid conductivity and the behavior of injected fresh water using borehole multichannel electrical conductivity monitoring and well-logging, and DC resistivity and SP monitoring at the surface. Well-logging and multichannel EC monitoring showed the decrease of fluid conductivity due to fresh water injection. We note that such an injection effect lasts more than several month which means the applibility of fresh water injection as a seawater intrusion control technique. Although SP monitoring did not show meaningful results because of weather condition during monitoring and the defects of electrodes due to long operation time, DC resistivity monitoring showed its effectiveness and applicability as a monitoring and assessment techniques of injection test by means of imaging the behavior and the front of fresh water body in terms of the increase of resistivity with reasonable resolution. In conclusion, we note that geophysical techniques can be an effective method of monitoring and evaluation of fresh water injection test, and expect that fresh water injection may be an practical method for the mitigation of seawater intrusion when applied with optimal design of injection well distribution and injection rate based on geophysical evaluation.

In this study, supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SFE) was utilized for the extraction of tocotrienol from grape seeds. The optimal conditions for vitamin E and tocotrienol extraction were determined via response surface methodology (RSM). Central composite design was utilized to assess the effects of oven temperature (30-$50^{\circ}C$, X1), operating pressure (17-25 MPa, X2), and extraction time (1-5 hr, X3) of supercritical fluid extraction. Vitamin E and tocotrienol contents were 8.65 mg/100 g and 7.88 mg/100 g at $40^{\circ}C$, 20MPa and 5 hr, respectively. The predicted extraction condition was validated via actual experimentation. The predicted extraction conditions were $40^{\circ}C$, 3.8 hr, and 20.7MPa. The vitamin E and tocotrienol contents under these conditions were 8.20 mg/100 g and 7.42 mg/100 g, respectively. The vitamin E and tocotrienol contents of solvent extraction with hexane were 8.18 mg/100 g and 7.24 mg/100 g, respectively.
Current state-of-the-art of VMS control is based upon simple knowledge-based inference engine with message set and each message's priority. And R&Ds of the VMS control are focused on the accurate detection and estimation of traffic condition of the subject roadways. However VMS display itself cannot achieve a desirable traffic allocation among alternative routes in the network In this context, VMS display strategy is the most crucial part in the VMS control. VMS itself has several limitations in its nature. It is generally known that VMS causes overreaction and concentration problems, which may be more serious in urban network than highway network because diversion should be more easily made in urban network. A feedback control algorithm is proposed in this paper to address the above-mentioned issues. It is generally true that feedback control approach requires low computational effort and is less sensitive to models inaccuracy and disturbance uncertainties. Major features of the proposed algorithm are as follows: Firstly, a regulator is designed to attain system optimal traffic allocation among alternative routes for each VMS in the network. Secondly, strategic messages should be prepared to realize the desirable traffic allocation, that is, output of the above regulator. VMS display strategy module is designed in this context. To evaluate Probable control benefit and to detect logical errors of the Proposed feedback algorithm, a offline simulation test is performed using real network in Daejon, Korea.

One-dimensional nanosturctures such as nanowires and nanotube have been mainly proposed as important components of nano-electronic devices and are expected to play an integral part in design and construction of these devices. Silicon carbide(SiC) is one of a promising wide bandgap semiconductor that exhibits extraordinary properties, such as higher thermal conductivity, mechanical and chemical stability than silicon. Therefore, the synthesis of SiC-based nanowires(NWs) open a possibility for developing a potential application in nano-electronic devices which have to work under harsh environment. In this study, one-dimensional nanowires(NWs) of cubic phase silicon carbide($\beta$-SiC) were efficiently produced by thermal chemical vapor deposition(T-CVD) synthesis of mixtures containing Si powders and hydrocarbon in a alumina boat about $T\;=\;1400^{\circ}C$ SEM images are shown that the temperature below $1300^{\circ}C$ is not enough to synthesis the SiC NWs due to insufficient thermal energy for melting of Si Powder and decomposition of methane gas. However, the SiC NWs are produced over $1300^{\circ}C$ and the most efficient temperature for growth of SiC NWs is about $1400^{\circ}C$ with an average diameter range between 50 ~ 150 nm. Raman spectra revealed the crystal form of the synthesized SiC NWs is a cubic phase. Two distinct peaks at 795 and $970\;cm^{-1}$ over $1400^{\circ}C$ represent the TO and LO mode of the bulk $\beta$-SiC, respectively. In XRD spectra, this result was also verified with the strongest (111) peaks at $2{\theta}=35.7^{\circ}$, which is very close to (111) plane peak position of 3C-SiC over $1400 ^{\circ}C$ TEM images are represented to two typical $\beta$-SiC NWs structures. One is shown the defect-free $\beta$-SiC nanowire with a (111) interplane distance with 0.25 nm, and the other is the stacking-faulted $\beta$-SiC nanowire. Two SiC nanowires are covered with $SiO_2$ layer with a thickness of less 2 nm. Moreover, by changing the flow rate of methane gas, the 300 sccm is the optimal condition for synthesis of a large amount of $\beta$-SiC NWs.

Under optimized condition mild pressure in combination with specific temperature for heat treatment transform the 6-gingerol into 6-shogaol. The purpose of this study was to optimize the conditions used for heat treatment under pressure for increasing 6-shogaol content in ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe). A central composite experimental design was used to evaluate the effects of application temperature ($70-130^{\circ}C$) and temperature-holding time (95-265 min) on the transformation of 6-shogaol. The experimental values were shown to be in significantly good agreement with the predicted values (adjusted determination coefficient, $R^2{_{Adj}}=0.9857$). 6-Shogaol content increased as the application temperature and temperature-holding time increased. By analyzing the response surface plots, the optimum conditions of heat treatment (temperature and time) for increasing 6-shogaol content were found to be $127^{\circ}C$ and 109 min, respectively. Under these optimal conditions, the predicted 6-shogaol content was 3.98 mg/g dried ginger. The adequacy of the model equation for predicting the optimum response values was effectively verified by the validation data.
The steady state and dynamic characteristics of large cell area MCFC stacks were analyzed to solve the problems such as temperature difference generated in stacks and pressure difference between anode and cathode. Manipulated variables (current density, duel utilization rate, oxidant utilization rate) and controlled variables (temperature difference, anode and cathode pressure difference) which had an important effect on the MCFC stack performance were determined using operation results of two types of MCFC stacks (5kW (3,000 $\textrm{cm}^2$, 20 ea). 3kW (6,000 $\textrm{cm}^2$, 5ea)). The stability and transfer function representing system dynamics were obtained by steady state gain rate which showed the relative change between MVs and CVs. The transfer function was a 3$\times$3 matrix and a typical first order system without time delay. The optimal operating condition of large cell area MCFC stacks could be determined by analyzing dynamic characteristics. In case of a 5 kW MCFC stack, pressurized operation with recycle flow should be used to control the outlet temperature less than 68$0^{\circ}C$ and to control the MCFC system effectively. MIMO control or decoupler should be used to remove the interaction between MVs and CVs. This result will be used as important data in determining the control structure design and operation mode of large cell area MCFC systems in the future.

After the resonator on the basis of the wave-filter theory was designed to control the waves with a specific frequency range surging into the harbor, the several case with the use of resonator have been reported in some part of sea, including the port of Long Beach, USA, and yacht harbor at Rome, Italy in order to control the long-period wave motion from the vessels. Recently, the utility and applicability of the resonator has been sufficiently verified in respect of the control of tsunami approximated as the solitary wave and/or the super long-period waves. However, the case with the application of tsunami in the real sea have not been reported yet. In this research, the respective case with the use of existing resonator at the port of Mukho and Imwon located in the eastern coast of South Korea were studied by using the numerical analysis through the COMCOT model adapting the reduction rate of 1983 Central East Sea tsunami and 1993 Hokkaido Southwest off tsunami. Consequently, the effectiveness of resonator against tsunami in the real sea was confirmed through the reduction rate of maximum 40~50% at the port of Mukho, and maximum 21% at the port of Imwom, respectively. In addition, it was concluded that it is necessary to study about the various case with application of different shape, arrangement, and size of resonator in order to design the optimal resonator considering the site condition.
