  • The budget deficit is closely related to expansionary fiscal policy as a fiscal instrument to encourage economic growth. This study aims to apply optimal control theory in the Keynesian macroeconomic model for the economy, so that optimal growth can be found. Macroeconomic variables include GDP, consumption, investment, exports, imports, and budget deficit as control variables. This study uses secondary data in the form of time series, the time period 1990 to 2018. Performing optimal control will result in optimal fiscal policy. The optimal determination is done through simulation, for the period 2019-2023. The discrete optimal control problem is to minimize the objective function in the form of a quadratic function against the deviation of the state variable and control variable from the target value and the optimal value. Meanwhile, the constraint is Keynes' macroeconomic model. The results showed that the optimal value of macroeconomic variables has a deviation from the target values consisting of: consumption, investment, exports, imports, GDP, and budget deficit. The largest deviation from the average during the simulation occurs in GDP, followed by investment, exports, and the budget deficit. Meanwhile, the lowest average deviation is found in imports.

We introduce the general design procedures and the mathematical formalas for time optimal processes and trajectories. Then we show the application of the technique to determine the optimal control signal, control sequence, switching time and sampling period to the given 4th order process.

  • In this paper, a novel method to determine the optimal checkpoint interval for real-time control task is proposed considering its performance degradation according to tasks's execution time. The control task in this paper has a specific sampling period shorter than its deadline. Control performance is degraded as the control task execution time is prolonged across the sampling period and eventually zero when reached to the deadline. A new performance index is defined to represent the performance variation due to the extension of task execution time accompanying rollback fault recovery. The procedure to find the optimal checkpoint interval is addressed and several simulation examples are presented.

  • We study the firm's strategy to price its products and plan the spare parts manufacturing so as to maximize its profit and at the same time to fulfill its commitment to providing the customers with the key parts continuously over the relevant decision time horizon, i.e., the production plus warrantee period. To examine the research question, we developed and solved a two-stage optimal control theory model. Our analysis suggests that if the cost to produce the spare part during the warrantee period is more expensive than that during the production period, the firm should increase its sales price gradually throughout the production period to control its sales. In addition, during the production period it is optimal for the firm to produce the spare parts more than needed so that the overproduced spare parts can be used to partially meet the demand during the warrantee period. We conducted numerical analysis to investigate the sensitivity dynamics among key variables and parameters such as inventory holding cost, unit spare part production costs, part failure rate, and parameters in the demand function.

  • This paper describes an optimal scheduling for ice slurry systems for energy cost saving. The optimization technique applied in the study is the dynamic programming method, for which the state variable is the storage in the ice storage tank and the control variable is the state of chiller's on-off switching. Though the costs during charge period is included in optimization by taking the average cost of ice per hour for slurry making, the time horizon for the simulation is limited building cooling period because accurate charge rate from the ice maker into the ice storage tank cannot be estimated during the charge period. In the operating simulation after optimizing procedure, energy consumption and operating cost for the optimal control are calculated and compared with them for a conventional control with one case of cooling load profile.

  • This paper presents a systematic approach which determines the optimal period to minimize performance measure subject to the schedulability constraints of a real-time control system by formulating the scheduling problem as an optimal problem. The performance measure is derived from the summation of end-to-end response times of processed I/Os scheduled by the static cyclic method. The schedulability constraint is specified in terms of allowable resource utilization. At first, a uniprocessor case is considered and then it is extended to a distributed system connected through a communication link, local-inter network, UN. This approach is applied to the design of an automotive body control system in order to validate the feasibility through a real example. By using the approach, a set of optimal periods can easily be obtained without complex and advanced methods such as branch and bound (B&B) or simulated annealing.

  • For automatic power control of KMRR, a new method, Reactivity Constraint Method, is applied for time optimal control. This method limits the net reactivity to the amount that can be offset by instantaneous control rod action. The reactivity to be constrained for the constant reactor period should be obtained by the dynamic period equation. A new formulation of the dynamic period equation for 2-point kinetics model is presented. A methematical controller model was applied to the plant simulator, KMRSIM to test this control law. The performance test showed that reactivity constraint approach is also a reliable means for reactor power change control.

  • In this work, we formulated a mathematical model for divorce in marriage and extended in to an optimal control model. Firstly, we qualitatively established the model positivity and boundedness. Also we saw sensitivity analysis of the model and identified the positive and negative indices parameters. An optimal control model were developed by incorporating three time dependent control strategies (couple relationship education, reducing getting married too young & consulting separators to renew their marriage) on the deterministic model. The Pontryagin's maximum principle were used for the derivation of necessary conditions of the optimal control problem. Finally, with Newton's forward and backward sweep method numerical simulation were performed on optimality system by considering four integrated strategies. So that we reached to a result that using all three strategies simultaneously (the strategy D) is an optimal control in order to effectively control marriage divorce over a specified period of time. From this we conclude that, policymakers and stakeholders should use the indicated control strategy at a time in order to fight against Divorce in a population.

  • Distributed control systems(DCS) using fieldbus such as CAN have been applied to process systems but it is very difficult to design the DCS while guaranteeing the given end-to-end constraints such as precedence constraints, time constraints, and periods and priorities of tasks and messages. This paper presents a scheduling method to guarantee the given end-to-end constraints. The presented scheduling method is the integrated one considering both tasks executed in each node and messages transmitted via the network and is designed to be applied to a general DCS that has multiple loops with several types of constraints, where each loop consists of sensor nodes with multiple sensors, actuator nodes with multiple actuators and controller nodes with multiple tasks. An assignment method of the optimal period of each loop and a heuristic assignment rule of each message's priority are proposed and the integrated scheduling method is developed based on them.

  • Cognitive radio has been recently proposed to dynamically access unused-spectrum. Since the spectrum availability for opportunistic access is determined by spectrum sensing, sensing is identified as one of the most crucial issues of cognitive radio networks. The PHY-layer sensing, as a part of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio, concerns the sensing mechanism to determine channel to be sensed and to access. One of the important issues in the PHY-layer sensing control is to find an available sensing period and trade-off between spectrum sensing and data transmission. In this paper, we show the relationship between spectrum sensing and data transmission according to the sensing period. We analyze and propose the new scheme to evaluate optimal sensing period.
