  • Despite the success of $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ (CIGS) based PV technology now emerging in several industrial initiatives, concerns about the cost of In and Ga are often expressed. It is believed that the cost of those elements will eventually limit the cost reduction of this technology. one candidate to replace CIGS is $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ (CZTSe), fabricated by co-evaporation technique. Effects of substrate temperature of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ absorber layer on the performance of thin films solar cells were investigated. As substrate temperature increased, the grain size of $Cu_2ZnSnSe_4$ films increased presumably. At a optimal condition of substrate temperature is $320^{\circ}C$, the solar cell shows a conversion efficiency of 1.79% with $V_{OC}$ of 0.213V, JSC of $16.91mA/cm^2$ and FF of 49.7%.

  • Balance shaft has a key role in reducing a engine vibration in a vehicle and widely applied for current models. Since balance shaft module consists many sub-component and each part had its own operational characteristics, some different analysis background should be integrated into one sub-part in balance shaft module and this is the main obstacles in making a design process. Moreover, the balancing shaft rotating in high speed and such condition requires large safety factors in a design process owing to a lot of unexpected problems with the overwhelming rotation. Balance shaft is the core-component generating the intended unbalance as well as canceling the unbalance force or moment by the engine module. So, the balance shaft should meet the high fatigue resistance not to mention of NVH performance. In this paper, a design strategy focused on balance shaft is developed to build a optimal model considering a engine vibration. Putting the unbalance mass distribution as main design parameter, some candidate model is verified with structural and fatigue analysis most appropriate model is proposed here.

  • An inverse method is introduced to construct benchmark problems for the numerical solution of initial value problems. Benchmark problems constructed through this method have a known exact solution, even though analytical solutions are generally not obtainable. The solution is constructed such that it lies near a given approximate numerical solution, and therefore the special case solution can be generated in a versatile and physically meaningful fashion and can serve as a benchmark problem to validate approximate solution methods. A smooth interpolation of the approximate solution is forced to exactly satisfy the differential equation by analytically deriving a small forcing function to absorb all of the errors in the interpolated approximate solution. A multi-variable orthogonal function expansion method and computer symbol manipulation are successfully used for this process. Using this special case exact solution, it is possible to directly investigate the relationship between global errors of a candidate numerical solution process and the associated tuning parameters for a given code and a given problem. Under the assumption that the original differential equation is well-posed with respect to the small perturbations, we thereby obtain valuable information about the optimal choice of the tuning parameters and the achievable accuracy of the numerical solution. Illustrative examples show the utility of this method not only for the ordinary differential equations (ODEs) but for the partial differential equations (PDEs).

  • The present study describes the gene cloning, overexpression and characterization of a novel nitrilase from hyperthermophilic bacterium Thermotoga maritima MSB8. The nitrilase gene consisted of 804 base pairs, encoding a protein of 268 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 30.07 kDa after SDS-PAGE analysis. The optimal temperature and pH of the purified enzyme were 45℃ and 7.5, respectively. The enzyme demonstrated good temperature tolerance, with 40% residual activity after 60 min of heat treatment at 75℃. The kinetic constants Vmax and Km of this nitrilase toward 3-cyanopyridine were 3.12 μmol/min/mg and 7.63 mM, respectively. Furthermore, this novel nitrilase exhibited a broad spectrum toward the hydrolysis of the aliphatic nitriles among the tested substrates, and particularly was specific to aliphatic dinitriles like succinonitrile, which was distinguished from most nitrilases ever reported. The catalytic efficiency kcat/Km was 0.44 /mM/s toward succinonitrile. This distinct characteristic might enable this nitrilase to be a potential candidate for industrial applications for biosynthesis of carboxylic acid.

  • In this paper, we present a position-based robot hand tracking scheme where a pan-tilt camera is controlled such that a robot hand is always shown in the center of an image frame. We calculate the rotation angles of a pan-tilt camera by transforming the coordinate systems. In order to identify the model parameters, we applied two optimization techniques: a nonlinear least square optimizer and a particle swarm optimizer. From the simulation results, it is shown that the considered parameter identification problem is characterized by a highly multimodal landscape; thus, a global optimization technique such as a particle swarm optimization could be a promising tool to identify the model parameters of a robot hand tracking system, whereas the nonlinear least square optimizer often failed to find an optimal solution even when the initial candidate solutions were selected close to the true optimum.

  • This study investigated optimal extraction conditions for application of Hippophae rhamnoides leaves as a natural antioxidant. Hippophae rhamnoides leaves were extracted using ethanol at various concentrations (0, 30, 50, and 70%) and extraction times (4, 8, and 12 hrs) at $70^{\circ}C$ and then evaluated for extraction yield (22.51%), total phenolic contents (84.21~149.25 mg/g), total flavonoid contents (63.10~124.14 mg/g), as well as antioxidant activities DPPH, ABTS radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and FRAP. Antioxidant activities (DPPH, ABTS radical scavenging activity, reducing power) were correlated with total phenolic and flavonoid contents. 70% EtOH extracts for 12 h at $70^{\circ}C$ showed the highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents with strong antioxidant activities, and that the leaves of Hippophae rhamnoides could be considerd as a candidate of new functional antioxidant agents. This extract could be a good source for natural antioxidants and good health food. This work offers would be useful for chemical and biological studies of natural plants and its products.

  • This paper proposes an efficient constraint-based optimization model for the design of 3G mobile networks, such as universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS). The model concerns about finding a set of sites for locating radio network controllers (RNCs) from a set of pre-defined candidate sites, and at the same time optimally assigning node Bs to the selected RNCs. All these choices must satisfy a set of constraints and optimize an objective function. This problem is NP-hard and consequently cannot be practically solved by exact methods for real size networks. Thus, this paper proposes a hybrid search strategy for tackling this complex and combinatorial optimization problem. The proposed hybrid search strategy is composed of three phases: A constraint satisfaction method with an embedded problem-specific goal which guides the search for a good initial solution, an optimization phase using local search algorithms, such as tabu algorithm, and a postoptimization phase to improve solutions from the second phase by using a constraint optimization procedure. Computational results show that the proposed search strategy and the model are highly efficient. Optimal solutions are always obtained for small or medium sized problems. For large sized problems, the final results are on average within $5.77\%$ to $7.48\%$ of the lower bounds.

  • In this paper, we investigated the performance of both DNA coding method and Genetic Algorithm(GA) in numeric pattern (from 0 to 9) recognition. The performance of the DNA coding method is compared to the that of the GA. GA searches effectively an optimal solution via the artificial evolution of individual group of binary string using binary coding, while DNA coding method uses four-type bases denoted by Adenine(A), Cytosine(C), Guanine(G) and Thymine(T). To compare the performance of both method, the same genetic operators(crossover and mutation) are applied and the probabilities of crossover and mutation are set the same values. The results show that the DNA coding method has better performance over GA. The reasons for this outstanding performance are multiple candidate solution presentation in one string and variable solution string length.

  • To reutilize fisheries waste, we isolated a bacterial strain from a coastal area located in Busan. It was identified as Bacillus licheniformis TK3-Y. Using plate assay and 500-mL flask experiments, we found that the isolate simultaneously possessed cellulolytic, proteolytic, and lipolytic activities with salt tolerance. 10% (v/v) inoculums, were used to examine the biodegradation characteristics of the TK3-Y strain on carboxymethylcellulose, skim milk, and olive oil media. The optimum conditions for pH, temperature, agitation speed, and NaCl concentration on each 1% substrate were 6, $50^{\circ}C$, 180 rpm, and 17.5%, respectively. Under optimal conditions, the TK3-Y strain showed 1.07 U/mL cellulolytic, 1,426 U/mL proteolytic, and 6.45 U/mL lipolytic activities. Each enzyme was stable within a range of 17.5-35% NaCl. Therefore, the salt tolerance ability of strain TK3-Y was superior to other related strains. In degradation of a mixed medium containing all three substrates, both the cellulolytic and proteolytic activities were somewhat lower than those on each single substrate, while the lipolytic activity was somewhat higher. From the above results, the TK3-Y strain appears to be a good candidate for use in the efficient treatment of fisheries waste in which components are not collected separately.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm for opportunistic scheduling that take advantage of both multiuser diversity and power control. Motivated by the multicast RTS and priority-based CTS mechanism of OSMA protocol, we propose an opportunistic packet scheduling with power control scheme based on IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. The scheduling scheme chooses the best candidate receiver for transmission by considering the SINR at the nodes. This mechanism ensures that the transmission would be successful. The power control algorithm on the other hand, helps reduce interference between links and could maximize spatial reuse of the bandwidth. We then formulate a convex optimization problem for minimizing power consumption and maximizing net utility of the system. We showed that if a transmission power vector satisfying the maximum transmission power and SINR constraints of all nodes exist, then there exists an optimal solution that minimizes overall transmission power and maximizes utility of the system.
