Perfluorocompounds ($PFC_s$), such as tetrafluoromethane ($CF_4$) and hexafluoroethane ($C_2F_6$), have been widely used as plasma etching and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) gases for semiconductor manufacturing processes. Since these $PFC_s$ are known to cause a greenhouse effect intensively, there has been a growing interest in reducing $PFC_s$ emissions. Among various $CF_4$ decomposing techniques, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is considered as one of a promising candidate because it has been successfully used for generating ozone ($O_3$) and decomposing nitrogen oxide (NO). Firstly, optimal concentration of oxygen for $CF_4$ decomposition was found to figure out how many primary and secondary reactions are associated with DBD process. Secondary, to find effective discharge method for $CF_4$ decomposition, a streamer and a glow mode in DBD are experimentally compared, which includes (i) coaxialcylinder DBD, (ii) DBD reactor packed with glass beads. and (iii) a glow mode operation with a helium gas. The test results showed that optimal concentration of oxygen was ranged 500 ppm~1% for treating 500 ppm of $CF_4$ and helium glow discharge was the most efficient one to decompose $CF_4$.

Genetic algorithms are one of the most important methods used to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem. Therefore, many researchers have tried to improve the Genetic Algorithm by using different methods and operations in order to find the optimal solution within reasonable time. This paper intends to find a new approach that adopts an improved genetic algorithm to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem, and compare with the well known heuristic method, namely, Kohonen Self-Organizing Map by using different data sets of symmetric TSP from TSPLIB. In order to improve the search process for the optimal solution, the proposed approach consists of three strategies: two separate tour segments sets, the improved crossover operator, and the improved mutation operator. The two separate tour segments sets are construction heuristic which produces tour of the first generation with low cost. The improved crossover operator finds the candidate fine tour segments in parents and preserves them for descendants. The mutation operator is an operator which can optimize a chromosome with mutation successfully by altering the mutation probability dynamically. The two improved operators can be used to avoid the premature convergence. Simulation experiments are executed to investigate the quality of the solution and convergence speed by using a representative set of test problems taken from TSPLIB. The results of a comparison between the new approach using the improved genetic algorithm and the Kohonen Self-Organizing Map show that the new approach yields better results for problems up to 200 cities.
To achieve an optimal performance for a given problem, we need an integrative process of the parameter optimization via learning and the structure optimization via model selection. In this paper, we propose an efficient optimization method for improving generalization performance by considering the property of each sub-method and by combining them with common theoretical properties. First, weight parameters are optimized by natural gradient teaming with adaptive regularization, which uses a diverse error function. Second, the network structure is optimized by eliminating unnecessary parameters with natural pruning. Through iterating these processes, candidate models are constructed and evaluated based on the Bayesian Information Criterion so that an optimal one is finally selected. Through computational experiments on benchmark problems, we confirm the weight parameter and structure optimization performance of the proposed method.

We studied sintering temperature to enhance the piezoelectric properties of $0.98(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-0.02Li(Sb_{0.17}Ta_{0.83})O_3$+0.01wt%ZnO (hereafter NKN-LST+ZnO) lead free piezoelectric ceramics. The synthesis and sintering method were the conventional solid state reaction method and sintering was executed at $1,080\sim1,120^{\circ}C$. We found that NKN-LST+ZnO ceramics at optimal sintering temperature showed the improved piezoelectric properties at the optimal sintering temperature. The NKN-LST+ZnO ceramics show good performance with piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$= 153 pC/N sintered at $1,090^{\circ}C$. The results reveal that NKN-LST+ZnO ceramics are promising candidate materials for lead-free piezoelectric application.
The humanized anti-hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) monoclonal antibody (mAb) YYB-101 is a promising therapeutic candidate for treating various cancers. In this study, we developed a bioprocess for large-scale production of YYB-101 and evaluated its therapeutic potential for tumor treatment using a xenograft mouse model. By screening diverse chemically defined basal media formulations and by assessing the effects of various feed supplements and feeding schedules on cell growth and antibody production, we established an optimal medium and feeding method to produce 757 mg/l of YYB-101 in flask cultures, representing a 7.5-fold increase in titer compared with that obtained under non-optimized conditions. The optimal dissolved oxygen concentration for antibody production was 70% $pO_2$. A pH shift from 7.2 to 7.0, rather than controlled pH of either 7.0 or 7.2, resulted in productivity improvement in 5 L and 200 L bioreactors, yielding 737 and 830 mg/ml of YYB-101, respectively. The YYB-101 mAb highly purified by affinity chromatography using a Protein A column and two-step ion exchange chromatography effectively neutralized HGF in a cell-based assay and showed potent tumor suppression activity in a mouse xenograft model established with human glioblastoma cells.

As the number of tourists visiting Seoul are continuously increasing, the demand of an integrative tour pass is also increasing. However, only a few tour passes are available for the tourists in Seoul. In this paper, we propose a new tour pass called "Seoul Landmark Pass" targeting foreign individual travelers and investigate the marketability of the proposed tour pass. For the configuration of the Seoul Landmark Pass we listed 17 candidate attractions charging entrance fee in Seoul, referring to e-guidebook on Visit Seoul web site. Among them we selected 6 attractions using the checklist with the attributes that foreign tourists would prefer. We also performed SWOT analyzes on existing tour passes to determine the benefits to be included in the proposed tour pass. To investigate the marketability of the proposed tour pass we have surveyed the foreign individual tourists in Seoul. Using the survey data, we have analyzed the intent of purchase by age, visiting period, visiting purpose, frequency of visit, and nationality to identify target customers. The results show that the intent of purchase is high among the Chinese tourists at the age of twenties who visited Seoul for the first time or second times. Also, the individual tourists prefer to bundle T-money card with the proposed tour pass. Finally, we have provided a brief review of the Price Sensitivity Measurement (PSM) method and applied PSM to determine the acceptable price range and the optimal price of the proposed tour pass. The optimal price of the proposed tour pass is determined at 53,000 won including T-money card.
Riverbank filtration for water supply has been employed for about 150 years in developed countries. In Korea, the feasibility of riverbank filtration has been investigated since 1990's for large river basins, to find a solution to stably meet the ever-increasing demand for water. Recently, some cites in the Nak-dong River Basin have been supplying the water through riverbank filtration. This research studies the feasibility of riverbank filtration in Seoul. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which selects the most optimal alternative by hierarchically classifying various attributes and then quantifying the importance of each attribute, was applied to candidate locations for the selection of riverbank filtration site. The Kwangnaru district, which has advantages in water quality and close connectivity to the existing water purification facility, was selected as the most optimal site.
Although motion estimation Plays an important role in digital video compression, complex search procedure is required to find an optimal motion vector. To reduce the search time, the search start point should be set up properly md efficient search pattern is needed. If the overall motion of the torrent block can be predicted, motion estimation can be performed efficiently. In this paper. block types are classified using candidate vectors and the motion activity of the block is predicted which leads to the search start point close to the optimal motion vector. The proposed method proves to be about 1.5$\sim$7 times faster than existing methods with about 0.02$\sim$0.2(dB) improvement of picture quality in images with large movements.

Japanese low activation terrific steel(JLF) is a good material for the parts of heat exchanger such as blanket and diverter. At first, JLF was developed as a candidate for structural materials in nuclear fusion applications. However, the development of the jointing technique of JLF steel to other materials is important for wide applications of this material to the industry fields. Recently the jointing technologies including diffusion bonding, brazing, roll bonding, explosive bonding and hot iso-static pressing have been studied for the heterogeneous materials of JLF-1 steel(Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta) and stainless steel(STS304). Friction welding is one of the most popular welding methods for two different kinds of materials. In this paper, the JLF-1 steel was jointed to SIS304 by friction welding method and the optimal conditions of the friction welding discussed. Acoustic emission was used as a nondestructive technique to evaluate the weld quality in processing.
Conceptual design is the first step in the overall process of product design. Its intrinsic uncertainty, imprecision, and lack of information lead to the fact that current conceptual design activities in engineering have not been computerized and very few CAD systems are available to support conceptual design. In most of the current intelligent design systems, approach of principle synthesis, such as morphology matrix, bond graphic, or design catalogues, is usually adopted to deal with the concept generation, in which optional concepts are generally combined and enumerated through function analysis. However, as a large number of concepts are generated, it is difficult to evaluate and optimize these design candidates using regular algorithm. It is necessary to develop a new approach or a tool to solve the concept generation. Generally speaking, concept generation is a problem of concept synthesis. In substance, this process of developing design candidate is a combinatorial optimization process, viz., the process of concept generation can be regarded as a solution for a state-place composed of multi-concepts. In this paper, genetic algorithm is utilized as a feasible tool to solve the problem of combinatorial optimization in concept generation, in which the encoding method of morphology matrix based on function analysis is applied, and a sequence of optimal concepts are generated through the search and iterative process which is controlled by genetic operators, including selection, crossover, mutation, and reproduction in GA. Several crucial problems on GA are discussed in this paper, such as the calculation of fitness value and the criteria for heredity termination, which have a heavy effect on selection of better concepts. The feasibility and intellectualization of the proposed approach are demonstrated with an engineering case. In this work concept generation is implemented using GA, which can facilitate not only generating several better concepts, but also selecting the best concept. Thus optimal concepts can be conveniently developed and design efficiency can be greatly improved.
