This paper presents a new method of Fuzzy Particle Swarm Optimization (FPSO)-based Congestion Management (CM) by optimal rescheduling of active powers of generators. In the proposed method, generators are selected based on their sensitivity to the congested line for efficient utilization. The task of optimally rescheduling the active powers of the participating generators to reduce congestion in the transmission line is attempted by FPSO, Fitness Distance Ratio PSO (FDR-PSO), and conventional PSO. The FPSO and FDR-PSO algorithms are tested on the IEEE 30-bus and Practical Indian 75-bus systems, after which the results are compared with conventional PSO to determine the effectiveness of CM. Compared with FDR-PSO and PSO, FPSO can better perform the optimal rescheduling of generators to relieve congestion in the transmission line.
This research presents a multi-objective optimal design employing topological approach to maximize magnetic energy while minimizing structural deformation which is caused by magnetic reluctance force and magnetostriction. A design sensitivity formula is derived by employing the adjoint variable method (AVM) to avoid numerous sensitivity evaluations for a coupled magneto-mechanical analysis. The sensitivity analysis is verified using the finite difference method (FDM) in a C-shape actuator. A linear actuator used in a home appliance is examined for optimal design and demonstrates the strength of the proposed topology optimization approach.
Experience and experiments show that in many cases the buckling limit is reached at a much smaller load level than is predicted by linear buckling analysis. In this paper, it is considered linear and nonlinear of plane vehicle structure and estimates design sensitivity of the cross sectional area that is composed plane vehicle structure and performs optimal design. It compares linear vehicle structure with nonlinear vehicle structure for optima design result that is selected constraint condition of buckling load.
In the paper, the system loss sensitivity index that implies the incremental system loss with respect to the change of bus power is derived using optimization technique. The index λ reaches $\infty$ at critical loading point and can be applied to actual power systems for following purposes. 1) Evaluation of system voltage stability 2)Optimal investment of reactive power focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability 3)Optimal re-location of reactive power focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability 4)Optimal load shedding in case of severe system contingency focused on minimizing system loss and maximizing system voltage stability. Case studies for each application have proved their effectiveness.
Use of computers in design is a trend in recent years. Mechanism design also uses computers extensively and the concept of optimal mechanism design is developed in many ways. Various authors presented methods based on sensitivity analysis but in these cases, the governing equation of the mechanism has to be derived and calculations become very complicated. In this papers, a method based on the least experimental plan is presented. To make a model of a mechanism, a general purpose mechanism analysis program is used. To obtain an optimal design of a mechanism, the relationship between design variables and the objective function is represented as the nonlinear equation. Optimal design variables are found by solving this derived equation and its result is verified. An example is presented to show the effectiveness of this method.
A process optimal design methodology applicable to steady-state forming with a strain-hardening material is presented. in this approach the optimal design problem is formulated on the basis of a rigid-viscoplastic finite element process model and a derivative based approach is adopted as an optimization technique The process model the schemes for the evaluation of the design sensitivity considering the effect of strain-hardening and an iterative procedure for design optimization are described. the validity of the proposed approach is demonstrated through application to die shape optimal design in extrusion.
The usual procedure for the optimal design of ship's steering system is to minimize a chosen quadratic performance index, which isdetermined from the view point of economic run. However, the optimal control synthesized in such a straightforward fashion is unsatisfactory because ship's parameters differ from their nominal values due to uncertainties and errors in measurement and/or simplifications in mathematical modelling, and/or the variation of the ship's loading condition. In an attempt to resolve this difficulty, this paper presents a method for designing a low sensitive optimal steering system in a way as to minimize not only given performance index but also the sensitivity of the performance index and trajectory sensitivity. It is also shown that the optimal control so obtained will result in a system whose performance index and transient response are low sensitive to small varation in ship's time constant.
Monitoring large-scale civil engineering structures such as offshore platforms and high-large buildings requires a large number of sensors of different types. Innovative sensor data information technologies are very extremely important for data transmission, storage and retrieval of large volume sensor data generated from large sensor networks. How to obtain the optimal sensor set and placement is more and more concerned by researchers in vibration-based SHM. In this paper, a method of determining the sensor location which aims to extract the dynamic parameter effectively is presented. The method selects the number and place of sensor being installed on or in structure by through the tolerance domain statistical inference algorithm combined with second order sensitivity technology. The method proposal first finds and determines the sub-set sensors from the theoretic measure point derived from analytical model by the statistical tolerance domain procedure under the principle of modal effective independence. The second step is to judge whether the sorted out measured point set has sensitive to the dynamic change of structure by utilizing second order characteristic value sensitivity analysis. A 76-high-building benchmark mode and an offshore platform structure sensor optimal selection are demonstrated and result shows that the method is available and feasible.
Optimization of chassis frame is performed according to the minimization of eleven responses representing one total frame weight, three natural frequencies and seven strength limits of chassis frame that are analyzed by using each response surface model from D-optimal design of experiments. After each response surface model is constructed form D-optimal design and random orthogonal array, the main effect and sensitivity analyses are successfully carried out by using this approximated regression model and the optimal solutions are obtained by using a nonlinear programming method. The response surface models and the optimization algorithms are used together to obtain the optimal design of chassis frame. The eleven-polynomial response surface models of the thirteen frame members (design factors) are constructed by using D-optimal Design and the multi-disciplinary design optimization is also performed by applying dual response analysis.
