  • For the mean vector of a p-variate normal distribution ($p{\geq}3$), the optimal estimation within the class of James-Stein type decision rules under the quadratic loss are given when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals and when the norm ${\parallel}\underline{{\theta}}{\parallel}$ in known. It also demonstrated that the optimal estimation within the class of Lindley type decision rules under the same loss when the underlying distribution is the previous type and the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-\overline{\theta}\underline{1}{\parallel}$ with $\overline{\theta}=\frac{1}{p}\sum\limits_{i=1}^{n}{\theta}_i$ and $\underline{1}=(1,{\cdots},1)^{\prime}$ is known.

  • Estimation procedure of the finite population proportion and distribution function is considered. Based on a logistic regression model, an approximately model- optimal estimator is defined and conditions for the estimator to be design-consistent are given. Simulation study shows that the model-optimal design-consistent estimator defined under a logistic regression model performs well in estimating the finite population distribution function.

  • We consider the estimation problem for the scale parameter of the Rayleigh distribution using weighted balanced loss function (WBLF) which reflects both goodness of fit and precision. Under WBLF, we obtain the optimal estimator which creates a kind of balance between Bayesian and non-Bayesian estimation. We also deal with the estimation of R = P(Y < X) when Y and X are two independent but not identically distributed Rayleigh distribution under squared error loss function.

  • In this paper, make a study decision problem called an optimal release policies after testing a software system in development phase and transfer it to the user. In the course of correcting or modifying the software, finite failure non-homogeneous Poisson process model, presented and was proposed release policies of the life distribution, half-logistic and log-logistic distributions model which used to an area of reliability because of various shape and scale parameter. In this paper, discuss optimal software release policies which minimize a total average software cost of development and maintenance under the constraint of satisfying a software reliability requirement. In a numerical example, the parameter estimation using maximum likelihood estimation of failure time data make out, and software optimal release time was estimated.

  • We are concerned in the estimation of lifetime distribution of a component having a few observed failure data and we demonstrate that we can use the maximum likelihood estimation utilizing the censored data when the number of components in use is quite large. Weibull distribution is assumed for the lifetime and a simple estimation procedure is introduced. We also propose the method of determining the optimal number of spares required for a specified period without introducing cost functions. The proposed methods are applied to the photon stop and the water-cooled flange which are major components in Pohang Light Source.

  • The object color does not look same under the different light source. It depends on the surface spectral reflectance and the spectral distribution of light source. Therefore we should find the surface spectral reflectance of object color and the spectral distribution of light source for color reproduction. Using Wiener estimation, we can estimate the spectral reflectance from low dimensional images obtained with multi-band image acquisition system. The kind and the number of imaging filters have the effect on the estimation of the spectral reflectance. Therefore it is important that optimal filters are selected to minimize the error of the result. In this paper, we describe methods to select optimal filters with minimum error between measured and estimated surface spectral reflectance and to estimate surface spectral reflectance of Munsell color chart from six multi-band images by using Wiener estimation.
