  • It is well known that the aromatic polycarbonate of bisphenol A (hereafter BPA polycarbonate) possesses superior transparency, exceptional toughness, high heat resistance and mechanical properties, which allow it to be diversely used for automotive, electrical, electronic, appliance and optical industries. In this paper, polycarbonate is reviewed on not only prospects of technology but market trend from the industrial point of view. It also demonstrates the diverse applications of polycarbonates with respect to its development history.

WGR을 사용한 완전 광 가입자망 설계의 경제성 비교 및 생존성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cost Analysis and Survivability of the All Optical Access Network Design using WGR)

  • 수동적인 광 네트워크로 구현되는 가입자망은 광대역, 장거리 전송, 투명성의 특성을 갖는 네트워크로 설계할 수 있다. 특히 WDM과 WGR의 기술은 WDM-PON의 새로운 가입자망 구성을 가능하게 한다. 본 논문은 생존성을 갖는 광 가입자망의 구성요소들을 결정하는 알고리즘을 제안하고 여러 구조들에 대한 비용을 분석하여 경제적이고 생존성이 있는 광 가입자망 구축 방향을 제시한다. 결과에 의하면 여러 광 가입자 구성 중에서 다중 성형 구조가 가장 경제적인 구조로 분석되었고, 제안한 알고리즘에 의해 설계된 구조에서 첫째 노드 장애와 모든 단일 링크 장애에 대한 생존성이 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Tellurium계 상변화 칼코겐화물 박막의 광투과 특성 (Optical Transmission Characteristics of Tellurium-based Phase-change Chalcogenide Thin Films)

  • The dielectric thin films applied to multi-colored semitransparent thin film solar cells have been extensively studied. In this work, we prepared GeSbTe and GeTe chalcogenide thin films using magnetron sputtering, and investigated their optical and phase-change properties to replace the dielectric films. The changes of surface morphology, sheet resistance, and X-ray diffraction of the Te-based chalcogenide films support the fact that the amorphous stability of GeTe films is superior to that of GeSbTe films. While both amorphous GeSbTe and GeTe films thinner than 30 nm have optical transparency between 5% and 60%, GeTe films transmit more visible light than GeSbTe films. It is confirmed by computer simulation that the color of semitransparent silicon thin film solar cells can be adjusted with the addition of GeSbTe or GeTe films. Since it is possible to adjust the contrast of the solar cells by exploiting the phase-change property, the two kinds of chalcogenide films are anticipated to be used as an optical layer in semitransparent solar cells.

Optical properties of the $O_2$ plasma treatment on BZO (ZnO:B) thin films for TCO of a-Si solar cells

  • In order to achieve a high efficient a-Si solar cell, the TCO (transparent conductive oxide) substrates are required to be a low sheet resistivity, a high transparency, and a textured surface with light trapping effect. Recently, a zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film attracts our attention as new coating material having a good transparent and conductive for TCO of solar cells. In this paper the optical properties of $H_2$ post-treated BZO (boron doped ZnO, ZnO:B) thin film are investigated with $O_2$-plasma treatment. The BZO thin films by MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) are investigated and the samples of $H_2$ post-treated BZO thin film are tested with $O_2$-plasma treatment by plasma treatment system with 13.56 MHz as RIE (Reactive Ion Etching) type. We measured the optical properties and surface morphology of BZO thin film with and without $O_2$-plasma treatment. The optical properties such as transmittance, reflectance and haze are measured with integrating sphere and ellipsometer. This result of the BZO thin film with and without $O_2$-plasma treatment is application to the TCO for solar cells.

투명 전도성 코팅체의 전자기적, 광학적 성능 설계 및 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of an Electromagnetic and Optical Characteristics in Transparent Conductor Coated Structures)

  • In order to avoid the high observability due to the cavity resonance or electromagnetic wave leakages from the bridge of a battleship or the cockpit of an aircraft, this paper presents a transparent conductive oxide coated structure to prevent the incoming/outgoing electromagnetic waves. Currently, most of the RCS reduction technologies were focused on radar absorbing material such as paints based on conductive or magnetic materials in the fuselage, and there is not much research on countermeasures for achieving the low observability of materials that required optical transparency in actual weapon systems. In this study, the transmission/reflection and absorption performance of the ITO coated structure according to the change of the surface resistance of the transparent conductor were analyzed. Finally, the relationship between the electromagnetic and optical characteristics was established through fabrication and measurement.

고속 ATM망을 위한 파장 분할 광교환기 구조 (Optical Switching Architectures using WDM for High-Speed ATM Networks)

  • 전광 통신망(All-Optical Network)은 근거리와 원거리 통신망을 위한 차세대 광대역 통신먕이며 이를 위한 많은 광교환기들이 제안되고 있다. 특히 파장 분할 다중화 기법을 적용한 광교환기는 전광 통신망에서 B-ISDN 서비스를 위한 망의 투명성과 토폴로지 측면에서 많은 장점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 광링크 기반의 고속 ATM 망을 위한 두 종류의 넉아웃 광교환기 구조를 제안하였다. 제안된 구조는 파장 분할 다중화 기법을 이용하여 전광 영역에서 동작할 수 있도록 하였으며, 구조-Ⅰ과 구조-Ⅱ로 명명하였다. 각 구조는 구성 소자수 및 소자 종류에 의하여 다른 특성을 갖으며, 시스템의 성능과 복잡도도 많은 영향을 받는다. 제안된 두 종류의 광교환기 구조에 대한 해석적 분석과 시뮬레이션을 실시하였으며, 셀 손실률, 구성 소자의 복잡도, 요구되는 버퍼링 속도 관점에서 성능을 비교 분석하였다.

전광 멀티 홉 네트워크 기술기반 포토닉 패킷 스위칭 연구동향 (Research Trends on Photonic Packet Switching based on All Optical Multihop Networking)

  • 통신망은 향후 통신 및 셀기반 통신망에 필요한 고속, 데이터 속도 및 투명성(transparency) 그리고 유연성(flexibility)을 제공하기 위해 빠르게 진화하고 있다. 전광 패킷 스위칭 망(all optical packet switching) 구조는 향후 급속도로 증가하는 데이터 통신 트래픽을 원활히 수용하기 위해서 싱글 홉 및 멀티 홉 전광 패킷 스위치 망의 요구사항을 만족하는 스위칭 속도, 성능, 확장성, 경제성 등을 고려한 실제 구현 가능한 구조의 필요성이 최근 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 광 패킷 스위칭 기술의 한계를 극복할 수 있는 전광 멀티 홉 네트워크 기술을 기반으로 포토닉 패킷 스위칭 망을 구현하고자 세계적으로 연구되고 있는 전광 멀티 홉 네트워크 구조, 포토닉 패킷 스위칭 구조 그리고 시간동기 방법에 대해 최근의 연구동향을 분석한다.

해수의 광학적 성질에 관한 연구 ( IV ) - 한국남해안 - (Optical Properties of Sea Water ( IV ) - Coastal Waters of Southern Part of Korea -)

  • Optical properties were studied in the costal waters of the southern part of Korea based on twenty oceanographic stations from 1 st to 9 th February, 1977. Submarine daylight intensity was measured by using an underwater luxmeter (Toshiba No.9). Daylight intensity in the upper 30m depth layer was measured at 1 m depth interval. The absorption coefficient of the sea water in the area ranged from 0.101 to 2.539 (mean 0.578). The Secchi-disc depth in the area ranged from 0.8 to 13 meters (mean 5.33 meters). The relationship between absorption coefficient (K) and transparency (D) was k= 1. 704/ D. The mean water color in the area was 5. 75 (3-9) in Forel scales. The rates of light penetration for daylight at 1m layer in the area ranged from 13.18 to 82. 05% and the mean was 59.56%, while the rate at 5m layer ranged from 0.007 to 46.1% and the mean was 18.47%.

형광 나노입자: 합성 및 응용 (Fluorescent Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Applications)

  • Fluorescent nanoparticles are characterized by their unique properties such as luminescence, optical transparency, and sensitivity to various chemical environments. For example, semiconductor nanocrystals (quantum dots), which are nanophosphors doped with transition metal or rare earth ions, can be classified as fluorescent nanoparticles. Tuning their optical and physico-chemical properties can be carried out by considering and taking advantage of nanoscale effects. For instance, quantum confinement causes a much higher fluorescence with nanoparticles than with their bulk counterparts. Recently, various types of fluorescent nanoparticles have been synthesized to extend their applications to other fields. In this study, State-of-the-art fluorescent nanoparticles are reviewed with emphasis on their analytical and anti-counterfeiting applications and synthesis processes. Moreover, the fundamental principles behind the exceptional properties of fluorescent nanoparticles are discussed.

$Li_2O$.$2SiO_2$. 유리의 결정화와 투광성에 관한 연구 (Crystallization and Transparency of $Li_2O$.$2SiO_2$ Glass-Ceramics)

  • Li2O.2SiO2 glass-ceramics were made from the melt by the nucleation and growth treatment. The optimum nucleation temperature and time were determined from DTA curves of as-quenched and thermally treated glasses, and found to be 44$0^{\circ}C$ and 3hrs. The optical microscopic technique was also used to support this result. The volume fractions of crystals present in the partially crystallized specimens were measured using the optical microscopy and the amorphous X-ray scattering methods. The degree of crystallization increased with increasing the crystallization temperature and time. The crystalline phase identified by X-ray diffraction was lithium disilicate. As the crystallinity increased up to 95%, the transmittance of glass-ceramics was decreased linearly. It was also found that for the same heat treatment condition (575$^{\circ}C$, 30min), a thicker specimen showed higher transmittance, presumably due to less crystallinity.
