  • Since transmissions of large amounts of data are frequent, users require more bandwidth, and the need for communications networks having greater bandwidth is increasing. One communications network satisfying this need is an optical communications network. Therefore, studies to increase the transmission capacity of optical communications systems have been carried out. However, in a general optical communications system, a signal transmitted through optical fiber (a transmission medium) is detected through direct detection in the receiving system. This method has a disadvantage in that the entire bandwidth of the optical signal cannot be utilized. Also, when transmitting an optical signal, there is a problem where the signal-to-noise ratio is affected by neighboring channels. To overcome this situation, various studies are being conducted to minimize the influence of external interference and noise. This paper overcomes the situation by transmitting spectrum-sliced signals using the digital transmission system, FSK. Analyzing the characteristics of the signals detected in the receiver of the optical communications system, Gaussian distribution is used for the PDF of the spectrum-sliced signal, and the signal at the receiving end of the optical communications system is assumed to have a k-square distribution. The results of the analysis confirmed it is better to transmit the spectrally divided signal rather than transmit the laser source.

  • [ $ZnHgGa_4Se_8\;and\;ZnHgGa_4Se_8::Co^{2+}$ ] single crystals were grown by the Bridgman-Stockbarger method. The single crystals crystallized into a defect chalcopyrite structure. The optical energy band gap of the single crystals was investigated in the temperature range 11-300K. The optical energy band gap of the $ZnHgGa_4Se_8:Co^{2+}$ single crystal was smaller than that of the $ZnHgGa_4Se_8$ single crystal. The temperature dependence of the optical energy band gap of the single crystals was well fitted by the Varshni equqtion. The impurity optical absorption spectrum of the $ZnHgGa_4Se_8:Co^{2+}$ single crystal was measured in the wavelength region 300-2300 m at 80 K. Impurity absorption peaks in the spectrum were analyzed within the framework of the crystal field theory and were attributed to the electron transitions between the energy levels of $Co^{2+}$ sited in the Td symmetry point.

  • Incoherent broadband optical sources have been applied in various areas such as a light source for optical device characterization, fiber-optic gyroscopes$^{(1)}$ , and spectrum sliced light source in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system$^{(2)}$ . To utilize the inherent low loss in silica optical fibers, various types of incoherent light sources are being developed. Among the light sources, the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) from a rare earth doped fiber has benefits in temperature stability, high output power, low polarization dependence over semiconductor diodes$^{(3)}$ . Recently erbium doped fibers (EDF) have been intensively researched for ASE sources as well as optical amplifiers$^{(4)}$ . The spectrum of ASE from an EDF, however, is limited in the 1520~1560 nm range in conventional configurations. In this letter we described a new broadband ASE source which included both the conventional ASE band of Er$^{3+}$ ion, 1520nm~1560nm and ASE band from Tm$^{3+}$ ions that extends the bandwidth further. For the first time, to the best knowledge of authors, a fiber ASE source based on the energy transfer between Er$^{3+}$ and Tm$^{3+}$ ions in the range of 1460~1550 nm, has been demonstrated using a single 980nm pump laser diode. • This paper presents a theoretical study of transmission performance for optical duobinary transmitters employed a Mach-Zehnder modulator. Especially, we have investigated the performance of the various transmitters for transmitting 25Gbps optical duobinary signals at a wavelength of 1550nm without any dispersion compensation methods over single mode fiber. Due to the characteristics of generating their duobinary signals, each transmitter has a distinct optical power spectrum and an eye opening shape. By these, there was a difference in the dispersion tolerance. We could find a suitable transmitter for 25Gbps transmission considering the structure complexities and the restricted conditions with the simulation results.

  • Nowadays, Plasma has been used in biological, medical such as wound healing, plant grow, killing cancer. When plasma generated, UV light and ROS(Reactive oxygen species), RNS(Reactive nitrogen species) can generated and those things effect to biological material. So we made simple plasma device using needle type of electrode and generated plasma. We used three kinds of gas and measured applied voltage and current. Also we observed optical emission spectrum. Using deuterium ramp, we can observed absorption spectrum and calculated radical density by lambert-beer's law. It is around ~1016cm3. And we can see the time-resolved absorption spectrum from monochromator, PMT(photo multiply tube), IV-converter, oscilloscope.
