LED의 광효율 최적설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Optimal Design for Optical Efficiency of LED)

  • In this paper, it was attempted to analyze the optimal design of light emitting diode (LED), a source of back light unit (BLU). LED is beginning with commercialized red LED which is made by GaAsP compound semiconductor, and has been developed focusing on liquid crystal panel. In order to get the optimal design, optical simulation was made by analyzing luminosity shape, reflector angle, chip depth, and chip position of LED lighting. Final results show that the proposed LED characteristics were useful to increase light efficiency and it has been proven by distribution chart for actual exposed light on the light guide panel (LGP).

  • The thin film that is electrically conductive and optically transparent is called conductive transparent thin film. ITO(Indium-Tin Oxide) which is a kind of conductive transparent thin film has been widely used in solar cell, transparent electrical heater, selective optical filter, FDP(Flat Display Panel) such as LCD(Liquid Crystal Display), PDP(Plasma Display Panel) and so on. Especially in PDP, ITO films is used as a transparent electrode in order to maintain discharge and decrease consumption power through the improvement of cell structure. In this study, we prepared ITO by reactive r.f. sputtering with indium-tin(Sn 10wt%) alloy target instead of indium-tin oxide target. The ITO films deposited at low temperature 15$0^{\circ}C$ and 8% $O_2$. Partial pressure showed about 3.6 Ω/$\square$. At the end of firing, the resistance of ITO was decreased, the optical transparence was improved above 90%.

  • In the recent years, much interests and attraction has been paid on the plasma display panel. To achieve high performance display panel, there has been a strong demands for studies on the transparent conducting films such as ITO and ZnO. In this study, we propose PDP cell with ZnO transparent conducting electrode. The electrical and optical characteristics of PDP cell with ZnO transparent electrode were studied and compared with that of conventional ITO electrode.

  • This paper deals with the development of a shape inspection system of the Light Guide Panel(LGP), and the study for the performance of the system. The conventional contact sensing methods have been used to inspect the shape. However the contact-sensing methods have some problems. The contact between a tip of the sensor and the surface of objects make a sensor tip abraded and generate a defect on the surface of objects.   • A 32x32 liquid crystal (LC) flat panel display using two-dimensional array of PMOS switches and capacitors is designed and fabricated. Standard PMOS process was followed to fabricate the switch and capacitor array on silicon wafer, on the top of which guest-host effect liquid crystal was wmployed as an electro-optical material for optical switching and liquid crystal display(LCD) with its external drive circuitry was basically successful. Remaining problems to be solved are improvement of contrast ratio, good surface alignment and uniformity.

  • The composites were fabricated with titania used commercially and calcite as a filler in BZB glass matrix and their thermal, optical and electrical properties were investigated. From our results, calcite may be the profitable and highly efficient reflectance material as a filler for flat panel display devices.

  • Transparent ac-PDP test panel was prepared via a combination of materials including ITO sustaining electrodes, thin film dielectric layer and nano-sized phosphor powders. The thin film dielectric layer was prepared by E-beam evaporation process and phosphor layer was deposited on metal mesh pattern by electrophoretic deposition process. The optical transmittance and luminance of the panel indicated that full color transparent ac-PDP is feasible with the approach.

  • Optical simulation of the rear and front panel geometries were needed to improve the luminance and efficiency in PDP cells. The 3-dimensional optical code can be used to analyze the variation of geometries and changing of optical properties. In order to improve the accuracy of simulated results, a new UV source, called a multi-cubes UV source, was designed. To design the source, at first UV distribution was calculated with the plasma fluid code and then the UV distribution was transformed to the multi-cube structures in the optical code. Compared to the results from existing UV source, called a planar UV source, could be improved the accuracy of visible light distribution. Simulated results were also compared to the visible distribution measured with the ICCD in a real PDP cell.

Optical and structural properties of metal-dielectric near-infrared cutoff filters for plasma display panel application

  • Electromagnetic interference shielding and near-infrared cutoff filters for plasma display panel application were designed and fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering. Three types of the filters were prepared: the basic structure of type A consisted of [$TiO_2$ Ti Ag $TiO_2$]; type B, of [$TiO_2$ ITO Ag $TiO_2$]; type C, of [$TiO_2$ ITO Ag ITO $TiO_2$]. Ti and ITO layers deposited on Ag layers were employed as barriers to prevent the oxidation and the diffusion of Ag film into the adjacent oxide layers. Optical, electrical, chemical, and structural properties were investigated, and the result shows that the filters with the ITO barrier layers provided an enhancement in transmittance in the visible owing to a lower absorption of ITO layers than Ti layers. Type C filter showed better optical and electrical performances and smoother surface roughness than Type B and C filters: the average sheet resistance was as low as 1.51 $\Omega\Box$ (where $\square$ stands for a square film), the peak transmittance in the visible was as high as 78.2 %, and the average surface roughness was 1.48 nm.

LCD Embedded Hybrid Touch Screen Panel Based on a-Si:H TFT

  • A new hybrid-type touch screen panel (TSP) has been developed based on a-Si:H TFT which can detect the change of both $C_{LC}$ and photo-current. This TSP can detect the difference of $C_{LC}$ between touch and no-touch states in unfavorable conditions such as dark ambient light and shadows. The hybrid TSP sensor consists of a detection area which includes one TFT for photo sensing and two TFTs for amplification. Compared to a single internal capacitive TSP or an optical sensing TSP, this new proposed hybrid-type TSP enables larger sensing margin due to embedding of both optical and capacitive sensors.
