광송수신 모듈 구현을 위한 전기 접속부에 관한 연구 (An Effect of Electrical Interconnect in Optical Transceiver Module)

  • 디지털시스템이 더 빠른 edge rate와 클럭 속도를 갖는 소자를 사용함으로 디지털 정보를 전송하는 시스템은 이제 초고주파 영역으로 진입하였으며, 더 많은 전송량을 얻기 위해 광경로를 활용하는 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 시스템 설계의 가장 중요한 변수가 되고 있는 디지털 신호의 무결성(Signal Integrity)을 확보하기 위한 병렬 광송수신 모듈에 전기 접속부의 중요성에 관한 시뮬레이션 및 실험적 분석을 수행하였다. 칩 구동을 위한 Access Line 및 Evaluation Board를 다른 두 경우로 모듈을 제작하였으며, S$_{11}$이 -10dB 이상인 마이크로 스트립의 경우, 2.5 Gb/s 광 신호의 왜곡이 많이 형성됨을 확인할 수 있었으며, 반면 S$_{11}$이 -15 dB 이하의 특성을 갖는 스트립라인에서는 완전한 Eye Opening신호를 확인할 수 있었다.

An embedded vision system based on an analog VLSI Optical Flow vision sensor

  • We propose a novel programmable miniature vision module based on a custom designed analog VLSI (aVLSI) chip. The vision module consists of the optical flow vision sensor embedded with commercial off-the-shelves digital hardware; in our case is the Intel XScale PXA270 processor enforced with a programmable gate array device. The aVLSI sensor provides gray-scale imager data as well as smooth optical flow estimates, thus each pixel gives a triplet of information that can be continuously read out as three independent images. The particular computational architecture of the custom designed sensor, which is fully parallel and also analog, allows for efficient real-time estimations of the smooth optical flow. The Intel XScale PXA270 controls the sensor read-out and furthermore allows, together with the programmable gate array, for additional higher level processing of the intensity image and optical flow data. It also provides the necessary standard interface such that the module can be easily programmed and integrated into different vision systems, or even form a complete stand-alone vision system itself. The low power consumption, small size and flexible interface of the proposed vision module suggests that it could be particularly well suited as a vision system in an autonomous robotics platform and especially well suited for educational projects in the robotic sciences.

  • In long-haul high speed optical communications, the distance between a transmitter and a receiver depends on the amount of light coupled to a single mode optical fiber from the laser diode(LD) as well as the LD characteristic itself. And the transmitter module must have long lifetime. high reliability, and even simple structure. Such points have induced laser welding technique to be a first choice in opto-electronic module packaging because it can provide strong weld joint in a short time with very small coupling loss. In this paper, packaging considerations and characteristics for high speed LD modules are discussed. They include optical path design factors for larger aligning tolerance, and novel laser welding processes for component assembly. For low coupling loss after laser welding processes, the optical path for optimum coupling of a single mode optical fiber into the LD chip was designed with the GRIN lens system providing sufficiently large aligning tolerance both in the radial and axial directions. The measured sensitivity of the LD module was better than -33.7dBm(back to back) at a BER of $10^{-10}$ with a 2.5Gbps NRZ $2^{23}-1$ PRBS.

Experimental Study of a Power-Over-Fiber Module and Multimode Optical Fiber for a Fishing Camera System

  • We determined the feasibility of a fishing camera system using an optical fiber as the fishing line by testing a power-over-fiber (POF) module and multimode optical fiber. Operation of the remote camera module (RCM) without the battery was preferred because the removal of the charging or battery replacement section enabled a waterproof single-body type design. The average efficiency of the photovoltaic power converter (PPC) in the tested POF module was 32.6% at 820 nm, and thus, a high-power laser of at least 1.27 W was required for operating the developed RCM with an electrical dissipation of 413 mW. Because the optical fiber was wound on a fishing reel, composite loss composed of bending and tensile loss occurred. To mitigate the composite loss, we employed a simple holder that showed an improvement in the composite loss of 0.38 dB to 0.8 dB, which was considerably better than the losses without the holder.

  • We discussed the main issues of 10GHz Receiver packaging. High frequency structure simulations and circuit simulations for TO-CANs led to a new design for 10GHz optical receiver module packaging. The simulation results were compared to the measured laboratory data. The proposed package has low cost and easy manufacture process far mass production. Using this package, we had a good optical to electrical conversion (OE) characteristic at a data rate of 10Gbps.

  • Building Integrated PV(BIPV) is one of the best fascinating PV application technologies. To apply PV module in building, various factors should be reflected such as installation position, shading, temperature, and so on. Especially a temperature should be considered, for it affects both electrical efficiency of a PV module and heating/cooling load in a building. This study investigates a semitransparent PV module that is designed as finished material for windows. Therefore it needs to considerate about the optical characteristics of the transparent module. It reports the effect of thermal and optical characteristics of the PV module on generation performance. The study was performed by measuring sun spectrum and luminance through the PV modules and by monitoring the temperature and experiment. The results showed that 1 degree temperature rise reduced about 0.48% of output power.

고분자광섬유용 광통신 및 센서 모듈 (Optical Communication and Sensing Modules for Plastic Optical Fibers)

  • 고분자 광섬유(POF)는 유리광섬유에 비하여 경량성, 저가 그리고 다루기 쉬운 장점을 가지고 있다. 그러나 상대적으로 높은 전송손실과 낮은 대역특성으로 인하여 랜과 같은 단거리 네트워킹에 대한 사용이 적합하다. 전송손실을 낮게 하기 위한 고분자물질의 합성공정과 유연한 고분자광섬유의 활용을 보다 넓히기 위한 다양한 연구들이 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 저잡음의 POF 모듈들이 개발되었으며, 이를 위하여 저잡음 증폭기와 저가의 650 nm의 발광다이오드(LED: Light Emitting Diode)가 최적화되었다. 광통신과 센서용 POF 모듈의 동적특성을 나타내기 위하여, 화상전송모듈, 광전송 속도측정모듈, RS-232용 광전송기와 음성전송모듈을 제작하여 그들의 신호특성을 평가하였다. 광전송속도의 측정에 있어서는 빠르고 간단한 측정으로서 모듈이 바로 사용될 수 있는 것으로 보여진다. 또한, 아날로그 증폭기, LED와 포토다이오드(PD: Photo Diode) 등을 활용하여, 소리와 화상의 전송은 POF를 통하여 최대 60 m까지 가능한 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 비례적분미분제어에서 확인한 실시간 데이터 전송효과는 산업용 공장의 설계와 제어에 있어서 매우 가치가 있을 것으로 고려된다.

프레넬 렌즈를 이용한 항공장애등 광학계 최적 설계 (Optimization of the Optical System for an Aircraft Warning Light Using a Fresnel Lens)

  • 본 논문에서는 LED 광원 모듈과 시준용 프레넬 렌즈를 이용하여 항공기 장애등 광학 시스템을 설계하였다. 설계된 광학계는 국토 교통부 항공기 경고등의 수직 양각 중심 광도 20,000 cd와 발산각 광도 규격 조건을 만족시키기 위해 프레넬 렌즈를 모듈별로 설계하였다. 또한 LED 광원 모듈과 프레넬 렌즈의 위치와 기울기를 조정하여 광학 시스템을 최적화하였으며, 이렇게 설계된 광학계의 배광 특성을 분석하고 비교하여 최적의 성능을 가진 항공기 경고등 광학계를 설계하였다.

2.5Gbps 광송신 모듈의 용량선 보상 및 대역폭 확대 (Capacitive compensation and consequent bandwidth expansion of 2.5 Gbps optical transmitter module)

  • Since many typical 2.5 Gbps optical transmitter modules use a 50$\Omega$ characteristic impedance, they require relatively high voltage and high power sources compared to the 25$\Omega$ module. However, simple replacement of the 50$\Omega$ internal matching impedance with 25$\Omega$ results in bandwidth reduction and consequent problem of data transmitter module is proposed in order to expand the modulator bandwidth. From the calculated resutls based on accurate 3-dimensional inductance analysis, we have found that the series parasitic inductance is a dominant element limiting the bandwidth and the insertion of a 2.5pF capacitor in parallel to the 20$\Omega$ matching resiter can increase the 3 dB bandwidth about 1.4GHz wider. The time-domain results show the rise time (140 psec) without the compensation is greatly improved to 63 psec with the compensation. This capacitive ocmpensation can be implemented easily and be compatible with common manufacturing process of the optical transmitter module.

광케이블 유지보수를 위한 수동 B-NT1 모듈 개발 (Development of passive B-NT1 for optical cable maintenance)

  • The reference model for UNI (User Network Interface) of B-ISDN is consisted of three function groups (B-NTI, B-NT2 and B-TE). In this study, we constructed passive B-NT1 module which can be utilized for optical link management and repair, one of main functions of B-NT1. For the convenience of installation and management, this module is only consisted of passive optical devices. And at a local exchange center linked with the module, the broken zone of optic link is able to be monitored without interrupting services. In addition, we performed the power burget analysis for the design of efficient optic link including this module.
