  • In this paper, we introduce a differential detector that automatically aligns itself to the signal beam in order to prevent the voltage variation that may result from minute misalignment of the light source. In this system, a photodiode-array recognizes the central point of the signal beam, and drives motors that correspond to the x and y axes. The photodiode-array aligns itself to the central point of the signal beam, and eliminates the optical noise effect with differential detectioin method. It is very useful in wireless optical interconnections.

  • In this paper, we propose the polarization coding of optical logic gates using filters and LCTV's, and represent the real-time system of an optical parallel adder to improve a carry propagation delay time. We fabricated a polarization filter for the polarization coding of a cell and an electrical system instead of an optical flip-flop which was necessary to an optical parallel adder. We used an optical fiber to play a part of decoding mask and interconnections in an optical parallel adder. The experimental results show that the polarization coding of a cell can represent 16 optical logic functions and that the implemented optical parallel adder can operate in real-time.

  • A gradient-index (GRIN) substrate is proposed as a novel signal propagation medium of planar optics. The GRIN substrate provides planar-optics designers not only a 3-dimensional signal propagation space, but also an additional smart optical functioning component like as a diffraction-limited imaging lens. The novel and smart functioning of the GRIN substrate was confirmed by experiment on imaging of an input signal to multiple destinations.

  • We investigate characteristics of gold and silver metal strip waveguides based on long range surface plasmon polaritons (LRSPPs) along thin metal strips embedded in a polymer for practical applications at the wavelengths of 1.31 and 1.55 um. Guiding properties of the metal strip waveguides are theoretically and experimentally evaluated. In addition, surrounding technologies such as the development of TM-mode laser, coupling properties, as well as high-speed digital signal transporting experiments will be explained for board-to-board optical interconnections by using the LRSPP waveguides.

  • A modified quantizing method is introduced to teach single layer learning algorithm, which is implemented optically. The proposed optical system consists of input masks, holographic diffraction grating. LCD and CCD camera. The 2 dimensional interconnections between input neurons and output neurons are realized using holographic phase grating, which is fabricated for equal intensity distribution of diffraction orders. The two gray levels of LCD act as binary weights for each interconnection. The weights are compensated according to the learning algorithm in which the amount of weights to be compensated is determined by comparing the output patterns with target patterns. The learning process is iterated until the predetermined conditions are satisfied. Optical experiments are performed for two learning rates, 0.5 and 0.9 and the experimental results show that the proposed system is useful for optical neural networks.

  • Copper electroplating is a very popular and important technology for depositing high-quality conductor interconnections, especially in through silicon via (TSV). As this advanced packaging technique developing, a mass of copper and chemical solution are used, so attention to these chemical materials into the utilization and costs can not be ignored. An economical and practical real-time chemical solution monitoring has not been achieved yet. Either Red-green-blue (RGB) or optical emission spectroscopy (OES) color sensor can successfully monitor the color condition of solution during the process. The reaction rate, uniformity and quality can map onto the color changing. Hidden Semi Markov model (HSMM) can establish mapping from the color change to upper indicators, and artificial neural network (ANN) can be integrated to comprehensively determine its targets, whether the solution inside the container can continue to use.

  • Volume holographic interconnection scheme for photonic sitching and optical neural network has been presented. Theoretical formulation for photorefative space-change fields generated by the illumination of multiple noncollinear plane light interferenc pattens was achieved by substituting the complex Fourier series of the space-chage field and freecarrier density into Kukhtarev's nonlinear diffeential equations.

  • In optical passive star interconnections, all packets are transmitted between nodes ina broadcast and-select manner. It is assumed that each node has a innable transmitter and a fixed-savelength receiver, ad that all packet lengths are equal so that each transmission can be done in a unit time. The tuning delay, denoted by $\delta$, means the amount of time for transmitter to change its wavelength to another one. The problec is , given ay value of the mumber of nodes N and the number of wavelengths $\kappa$ according to WDM implementations, to find transmission schedules with minimum cycle length for all-to all brondcaxt where no one sends any packet to itself. In this paper, we prove that the cycle length of optimal transcission schedules should be at least $max[[{\frac{N}{k}](N-1)}]$,$k\delta$$+N-1$. A novel algorithm for optimal transmission schedules is then presented when N-1 is divisible by $\kappa$. This algorithm also can be used for any values of N and $\kappa$ if the tuning delay $\delta$ does not affect strictly the cycle length of transmission schedules, i,e, $[\frac{N}{k}](N-1)$ > $\kappa\delta$+N-1.

  • FeSi2/Si Layer were grown using FeSi2, Si wafer by the chemical transport reactio nmethod. The directoptical energy gap was found to be 0.871eV at 300 K. The Hall effect is a physical effect arising in matter carrying electric current inthe presence of a magnetic field. The effect is named after the American physicist E. H. Hall, who discovered it in 1879. IN this paper, we study electrical properties of FeSi2/Si layer. And then we measured Hall coefficient Hall mobility, carrier density and Hall voltage according to variation magnetic field and temperature, Because of important part for it applicationVarious phase of silicide is formed at the metal-Si interface when transition metal contacts to Si. Silicides belong to metallic or semiconducting according to their electrical and optical properties. Metallic silicides are used as gate electrodes or interconnections in VLSI devices. Semiconducting silicides can be used as a new material for IR detectors because of their narrow energy band gap.
