Aluminium-silicon alloy(JIS AC8A) matrix composites reinforced with SiC particles were fabricated by spray-cast forming process, and the microstructure of powders and preforms produced were studied by using an optical and scanning electron microscopy. SiC particles were co-sprayed by mixed phase injection method during the spray casting process. Most of the composite powders formed by this mixed phase injection method exhibit morphology of particle-embedded type, and some exhibits the morphology of particle attached type due to additional attachment of the SiC particles on the surface of the powders in flight. The preforms deposited were resulted in dispersed type microstructure. The pre-solidified droplets and the deposited preform of SiC-reinforced aluminium alloy exhibit finer equiaxed grain size than that of unreinforced aluminium alloy. Eutectic silicons of granular type are crystallized at the corner of the aluminum grains in the preforms deposited, and some SiC particles seem to act as nucleation sites for primary/eutectic silicon during solidification. Such primary/eutectic silicons seem to retard grain growth during the continued spray casting process. It is envisaged from the microstructural observations for the deposited preform that the resultant distribution of SiC injected particles in the Al-Si microsturcture is affected by the amount of liquid phase in the top part of the preform and by the solidification rate of the preform deposited.
1.55 ${\mu}m$multi-quantum well (MQW) broad area laser diodes with different linewidth enhancement factors ($\alpha{-factor}$) of 2 and 4 were fabricated. The far-fields of the laser diodes were measured. It was observed that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the far-fields and the filamentations were reduced in the laser diodes for which the value of the $\alpha{-factor}$ was small. As injection current increased, the FWHM of the far-field also increased regardless of the a-factor. This phenomenon was explained by reduction of filament spacing as injection current increased.
This study aimed to develop an experimental animal model of duodenal ulcer for application to nutrition, and to verify the nutritional characteristics. The 7 different doses and 8 different injections of cysteamine and 2 kinds of diets with different casein levels(10%, 20%) were tested to examine the incidence and the process of duodenal ulcer in female Sprague-Dawley rats. The result showed that the duodenal ulcer was induced when rats fed 10% casein diet(for 9 days) were injected 6 times with 13mg/100g BW cysteamine. The first injection was conducted after 24 hours of fasting, followed by the 2nd shot after 3 hours. The following shots were repeated every 3 day(4th and 7th days). Duodenal ulcer was observed 3 days after the last injection by optical microscope and the naked eye. The characteristics of nitrogen bioavailability of duodenal ulcer model were as followings : 1) gastric emptying rate was faster, 2) trypsin activity at duodenum was higher, 3) total protein concentration at serum and nitrogen retention rate were lower than the control. We investigate the effects of the power and wavelength of externally injection seeded light on timing jitter and pulse width in a gain-switched $1.55\mu\textrm{m}$ DFB semiconductor laser by numerical simulation based on the transmission line laser model. As external seeding power increases, the timing jitter decreases and the pulse width increases. The lowest timing jitter is observed when the seed wavelength is aligned with the chirped spectrum center. By external seeding, we can decrease the timing jitter up to 1/2.7 without noticeable increase in pulse width. Our simulation results reasonably well agree with our sampled experiment and the other published papers. This proves the validity of our model to analyze a system based on a semiconductor laser. laser.

We compare electrical and optical properties of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) using rhodium-oxide-coated indium-tin-oxide ($O_2$-Rh/ITO) to that using $O_2$-plasma-treated ITO (ITO) anodes. The turn-on voltage decreased from 7 V to 5 V and luminance value increased when the $O_2$ plasma treated Rh layer was deposited on ITO. Synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy results showed the dipole energies of both ITO and $O_2$-Rh/ITO were same with each other, - 0.3 eV, meaning the formation of same amount of interface dipole. The secondary electron emission spectra revealed that the work function of $O_2$-Rh/ITO is higher hy 0.2 eV than that of ITO, resulting in the decrease of the tum-on voltage via reduction ofhole injection barrier.

The objective of this study is to investigate the average droplet size distributions of a GDI spray by simultaneous fluorescence/scattering image technique. GDI engine is recently very popular because of high engine efficiency and low emissions. However, the injectors must have good spray characteristics because the fuel is directly injected into the cylinder. The fuel mixtures used in this study were 2% of fluorobenzene, 9% of DEMA(diethyl-methyl-amine) and 89% of hexane by volume. The system for obtaining 2-D fluorescence/scattering images of fuel spray was constituted of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and an ICCD camera. Using the ratio of the fluorescence to the scattering intensities, SMD distributions were obtained. SMD measured by the technique was compared with that obtained by PDA. It was found that average droplet size was bigger at spray center in the early stage of injection and at the outer periphery of the spray in the late stage of injection.
Despite its benefit in engine thermal efficiency, gasoline-direct-injection (GDI) engines generate substantial particulate matter (PM) emissions compared to conventional port-fuel-injection (PFI) engines. One of the reasons for this is that the spray collapse caused by the spray-to-spray interaction forms the locally rich fuel-air mixture and increases the fuel wall film. Previous studies have investigated the spray collapse phenomenon through the macroscopic observation of spray behavior using laser optical techniques, but it is somewhat difficult to understand the interaction between sprays that is initiated in the near-nozzle region within 10 mm from the nozzle exit. In this study, the spray structure, droplet size and velocity data were obtained using an X-ray imaging technique from the near-nozzle to the downstream of the spray to investigate the spray-to-spray interaction and discuss the effects of spray collapse on local droplet size and velocity distribution. It was found that as the ambient density increases, the spray collapse was promoted due to the intensified spray-to-spray interaction, thereby increasing the local droplet size and velocity from the near-nozzle region as a result of droplet collision/coalescence.
A tunable pulsed dye laser was operated in a single longitudinal mode by injection locking with a cw ring dye laser. A doubled Nd:YAG laser was used as the pumping source. Phase sensitive detection technique was applied to maintain the required match between the master laser frequency and the slave resonator cavity length. The fluctuation of the center frequency of the pulsed laser was < 10 MHz, and the pulse duration (FWHM) was 6 ns. The linewidth measured by scanning confocal interferometer was 130 MHz. When pumped by 50 mJ of the doubled Nd:YAG laser, the output energy of the pulsed dye laser was 2 mJ and the peak power was 330 kW. 30 kW.

This paper proposes an error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injection molding parts. Geometric information can give an improved accuracy in reverse engineering. Measuring data can not lead to get accurate geometric model, including errors of physical parts and measuring machines. Measuring data include errors which can be classified into two types. One is molding error in product, the other is measuring error. Measuring error includes optical error of laser scanner, deformation by probe forces of CMM and machine error. It is important to compensate these in reverse engineering. Least square method (LSM) provides the cloud data with a geometry compensation, improving accuracy of geometry. Also, the functional shape of a part and design concept can be reconstructed by error compensation using geometry information.

Size- and shape-controlled monodisperse wurtzite structured CdS nanorods have been successfully synthesized using a facile solution-based colloidal method. Depending on the control of injection/growth temperatures and the variation of Cd-to-S molar ratios, the morphology of the CdS nanocrystals (NCs) can be adjusted into bullet-like, rod-like, and dot-like shapes. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transition electron microscopy (TEM), and absorption spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure, morphology, and optical properties of as-synthesized CdS NCs. It was found that uniform CdS nanorods could be successfully synthesized when the injection and growth temperatures were very high (> $360^{\circ}C$). The aspect ratios of different shaped (bullet-like or rod-like) CdS NCs could be controlled by simply adjusting the molar ratios between Cd and S.
