  • A new polariscope system involving two rotating optical elements and a digital camera for whole field fringe analysis allows automated data to be acquired quickly and efficiently. The developed phase measuring technique that uses eight images through a circular polariscope is presented for the digital measurement of isochromatics and isoclinics, respectively, from photoelastic fringes in a circular disk under diametric compression. Isochromatics can directly be obtained using wrapped isoclinic phases calculated by the arc tangent operator which is the four-quadrant operator from -$\pi$ to $\pi$. It is not required to unwrap isoclinic phases for the calculations of isochromatics. Unwrapped isoclinics are directly determined from isochromatic parameters. Distributions of digitally determined isoclinics are in close agreement to manual measurements. The errors which would appear in unwrapping process of isoclinics can be avoided in the determination of isochromatics.

  • Planar laser induced fluorescence(PLIF) has been widely used to obtain two dimensional fuel distribution. Preliminary investigation was performed to measure quantitative air excess ratio distribution in an engine fueled with LPG. It is known that fluorescence signal from acetone as a fluorescent tracer is less sensitive to oxygen quenching than other dopants. Acetone was excited by KrF excimer laser (248nm) and its fluorescence image was acquired by ICCD camera with a cut-of filter to suppress Mie scattering from the laser light. For the purpose of quantifying PLIF signal, an image processing method including the correction of laser sheet beam profile was suggested. Raw images were divided by each intensity of laser energy and profile of laser sheet beam. Inhomogeneous fluorescence images scaled with the reference data, which was taken by a calibration process, were converted to air excess ratio distribution. This investigation showed instantaneous quantitative measurement of planar air excess ratio distribution for gaseous fuel.

  • EOC(Electro Optical Camera)는 한반도 및 전 세계 육지 영역 관측용으로 설계되었다.

  • The mechanical seals, which are installed in rotating machines like pump and compressor, are gengrally used as sealing devices in the many fields of industries. The failure of mechanical seals such as leakage, fast and severe wear, excessive torque, and squeaking results in big problems. To monitor the failure of mechanical seals and to propose the proper monitoring techniques with artificial neural network, sliding wear experiments were conducted. Torque and temperature of the mechanical seals were measured during experiments. Optical microstructure was observed for the wear processing after every 10 minute sliding at rotation speed of 1750 rpm and scanning electron microscopy was also observed. During the experiment, the variation of torque and temperature that meant an abnormal phenomenon, was observed. That experimental data recorded were applied to the developed monitoring system with artificial neural network. This study concludes that torque and temperature of mechanical seals wil be used to identify and to monitor the condition of sliding motion of mechanical seals. An availability to monitor the mechanical seal failure with artificial neural network was confirmed.

  • Using GPS carrier phase whose cycle ambiguities are resolved, it is possible to perform precise survey requiring centimeter-level positioning accuracy. Because of an optical illusion, we cannot recognize the exact slope of Dokaebi Road. In this paper, we performed kinematic survey experiments in order to calculate the exact slope of Dokaebi Road with high positioning accuracy of CDGPS. By post-processing experimental data using CDGPS, it was possible to generate the exact vertical trajectory of Dokaebi Road with centimeter-level accuracy.

  • In indoor sensor networks equalization algorithms based on the minimization of Euclidean distance (MED) for the distributions of constant modulus error (CME) have yielded superior performance in compensating for signal distortions induced from optical fiber links, wireless-links and for impulsive noise problems. One main drawback of MED-CME algorithms is a heavy computational burden hindering its implementation. In this paper, a recursive gradient estimation for weight updates of the MED-CME algorithm is proposed for reducing the operations $O(N^2)$ of the conventional MED-CME to O(N) at each iteration time for N data-block size. From the simulation results of the proposed recursive method producing exactly the same results as the conventional method, the proposed estimation method can be considered to be a reliable candidate for implementation of efficient receivers in indoor sensor networks.

  • A computer code was developed to simulate the filling stage of the injection/compression molding process by a finite element method. The constitutive equation used here was the compressible Leonov model. The PVT relationship was assumed to follow the Tait equation. The flow-induced birefringence was related to the calculated flow stresses through the linear stress-optical law. Simulations of a disk part under different processing conditions including the variation of compression stroke and compression speed were carried out to understand their effects on flow-induced birefringence. The simulated results were also compared with those by conventional injection molding and with experimental data from literature.

  • In order to meet the optical performance in the process of the micro lens manufacturing with plastics, it is important to embody accuracy in shape and surface roughness to the intended design. Since it is difficult to machine exactly the mold core of lens fit to the designed shape, in this paper, a simple program using MATLAB is developed for shape correction of the mold core after first machining it. This program evaluates correction parameters(aspheric coefficients and curvature) and generates aspheric NC data for compensating the core surface in prior machining process. The program provides the way to manufacture plastic injection molding lens with aspheric shape of high precision, and is expected to be effective for correction and to shorten the processing time.

  • In this paper, motion analysis algorithm is presented for home surveillance of the aged who lives alone. For the first step, we acquire images from a camera. To enhance the image, we use median filtering and binarize it to reduce processing time. And then morphological operations are performed to remove small blobs and small holes. At the forth step, blobs are analysed to extracts tor foreground region. Then, motions are predicted from these images by using optical tlow technique, and the predicted motion data are refined by comparing our cardboard models so as to judge behavior pattern.

  • An optoelectronical method for in process monitoring of flank wear of cutting tools is presented. The method is based upon real-time vision technology in which the tool is illuminated by a beam of laser and then the image of wear zone is taken by a vidicon camera. The image is converted to a series of digital pixel data and processed through an algorithm specially developed for measurement of the wear land width. Detailed aspects of the prototype measurement system byilt for experiment are described, and test results are discussed. As conclusions, it is proved that the methods are effec- tive especially for-in situ application with a measuring accuracy of 0.01mm.
