  • We derive 28 optical structural equations based on our two previous theoretical and experimental papers about a gigapixel camera, which were published in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Utilizing these 28 equations, we are able to obtain an integrated understanding of optical structure for a multiscale gigapixel camera system, in addition to obtaining numerical values for structural parameters very directly and easily.

  • A space-borne earth observation camera is an electro-optical instrument to measure the characteristics of the earth's surface, and to transmit the measured data to a ground station(s). The specifications of a space-borne camera, such as resolution, swath width and observation bands, are determined by its mission objectives. This paper lists some specifications of a camera suitable for small satellite and then presents an optical design, with the results of tolerancing analysis, which satisfies the given specifications. tions.

  • Compare with other communication system based RF technology, Optical Camera Communication (OCC) has limitation on data rate due to the low frame rate of camera. The limitation on data rate can be solved with multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technology; and it is the final target of all researches on OCC. The MIMO topology can be implemented easily without breaking out the architecture of image sensor. For image sensor classification, there are two architectures have been developed: rolling shutter and global shutter. The operation of two techniques is different so the performance is also different. In this paper we analyze and evaluate the performance of the MIMO architecture for OCC.

  • We determined the feasibility of a fishing camera system using an optical fiber as the fishing line by testing a power-over-fiber (POF) module and multimode optical fiber. Operation of the remote camera module (RCM) without the battery was preferred because the removal of the charging or battery replacement section enabled a waterproof single-body type design. The average efficiency of the photovoltaic power converter (PPC) in the tested POF module was 32.6% at 820 nm, and thus, a high-power laser of at least 1.27 W was required for operating the developed RCM with an electrical dissipation of 413 mW. Because the optical fiber was wound on a fishing reel, composite loss composed of bending and tensile loss occurred. To mitigate the composite loss, we employed a simple holder that showed an improvement in the composite loss of 0.38 dB to 0.8 dB, which was considerably better than the losses without the holder.

  • This paper describes a new method for estimating time-to-collision which exhibits high tolerance to noise contained in camera images. Time to collision (TTC) is one of the most important parameters available from a camera attached to a mobile machine. TTC indirectly stands far the translation speed of the camera and is usually calculated either from successive images or optical flow by using intimate relationship between TTC and flow divergence. In most cases, however, it is not easy to get accurate optical flow, which makes it difficult to calculate TTC. In this study it is proved that if the target has a smooth surface, the average of divergence over any point-symmetric region on the image is equal to the divergence of the center of the region. It means that required divergence can be calculated by integrating optical flow vectors over a symmetric region. It is expected that in the process of the integration, accidental noise is canceled if they are independent of optical flow and the motion of the camera. Experimental results show that TTC can be estimated regardless of the surface condition. It is also shown that influence of noise is eliminated as the area of integration increases.

  • This paper presents machine vision technique with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Radial distortion causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering, that is, the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. It is our purpose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing.

  • Optical camera communication (OCC) is an extension of Visible Light Communication. Different from traditional visible light communication, optical camera communications is an almost no additional cost technology by taking the advantage of build-in camera in devices. It was became a candidate for communication protocol for IoT. Camera module can be easy attached to IoT device, because it is small and flexible. Furthermore almost smartphone equip one or two camera for both back and font side with high quality and resolution. It can be utilized for receiving the data from LED or positioning. Actually, OCC combines illumination and communication. It can supply communication for special areas or environment where do not allow Radio frequency such as hospital, airplane etc. There are many concept and experiment be proposed. In this paper we proposed utilizing Android smart-phone camera for receiver and introduce new approach in modulation scheme for LED at transmitter. It also show how Manchester coding can be used encode bits while at the same time being successfully decoded by Android smart-phone camera. We introduce new data frame format for easy decoded and can be achieve high bit rate. This format can be easy to adapt to performance limit of Android operator or embedded system.

  • In this paper, we analysed what effect the design variables, such as refractive index, central thickness and radius of curvature, had on the first order properties and image quality of optical systems when temperature changed. The optical parameters were varied at each temperature, then the coupling and ruler methods were used to design an athermalized lens for a phone camera. This concept was first used to design the lens for a 1/3.2" 5M phone camera. The designed lens satisfies all the specifications for a phone camera, and the variations of the back focal length(${\Delta}BFL$) are reduced to $10{\mu}m$ for a temperature range of $-10^{\circ}C$ to $+60^{\circ}C$. Also, the TTL of 5.5 mm results in a compact system. All design concepts and results discussed in this paper are expected to be useful in development for the phone and CCTV camera.
