The influence of the order-disorder structural transition on the magnetic and mageto-optical, and transport properties of Fe-Al and Co-Al alloy films has been investigated. The disordered states in the alloy films were prepared by vapor quenching deposition on glass substrates cooled by liquid nitrogen. The experimental study of the magento-optical properties of the ordered and disordered Fe-Al and Co-Al alloy films has been carried out in 1.05-5.0 eV energy range at room temperature. The transport properties have been measured in 2-300K temperature range with and without magnetic field of 0.5T. The influence of the order-disorder structural transition on the magnetic and magneto-optical properties was discussed by using the effective medium approximation and the structural defect approach. That on the temperature dependence of the resistivity was analyzed in a framework of the partial localization of the electronic states and the variable range hopping conductivity.
The magnetic amd magneto-optical(MO)properties of Co-based multilayered(ML)films are known to vary sensitively according to the manufacturing methods and the film microstructures. Co/Pd and Co/Pt ML films with ultrathin layers of Co were prepared by alternating deposition in an ultrahigh-vacuum physical-vapor-deposition system. The individual layer thicknesses of the samples were estimated making use of the angular positions of x-ray diffraction peaks. The magnetic and MO properties were investigated, and correlated systematically to the structural parameters of the films. A Kerr spectrometer was self-manufactured to measure the MO properties such as Kerr rotation angle, ellipticity and reflectivity. The rms surface roughness was also measured using atomic force microscopy. Some of the samples showed good properties for MO medium, such as large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and Kerr rotation, and perfect squareness of the magnetic hysteresis loop.
Fe-Au alloys are characterized by the complete solubility, and exhibit an fcc-bcc structural transformation at the Fe-rich side. The magneto-optical(equatorial Ken effect : EKE) and optical properties of Fe$\_$1-x/Aux (0 < x < 1) were investigated in the 0.5 - 5.0 eV energy range. The x-ray diffraction study shows the structural fcc-bcc transformation about 80 at. % of Fe. Noticeable changes in the optical properties caused by the fcc-bcc structural transformation was observed. The shape and intensity of the EKE spectra as well as the field dependence of the magneto-optical response were also significantly changed. It is thought that these changes are mainly comes from the induced magnetic moment in Au(and/or the emhanced magnetic moment of Fe). The nature of the prominent structure observed in the UV range of the magneto-optical Ken effect of Au/Fe multilayered films are disscussed in connection with the above results.
Cesium lead halide ($CsPbX_3$) nanocrystals have emerged as a new family of semiconductor nanomaterials that can outperform existing semiconductor nanocrystals owing to their superb optical and charge transport properties. Although these materials are expected to have many superior properties, control of the quantum confinement and isoelectronic magnetic doping, which can greatly enhance their optical, electronic, and magnetic properties, has faced significant challenges. These obstacles have hindered full utilization of the benefits that can be obtained by using $CsPbX_3$ nanocrystals exhibiting strong quantum confinement or coupling between exciton and magnetic dopants, which have been extensively explored in many other semiconductor quantum dots. Here, we review progress made during the past several years in tackling the issues of introducing controllable quantum confinement and doping of $Mn^{2+}$ ions as the prototypical magnetic dopant in colloidal $CsPbX_3$ nanocrystals.
The magnetic and optical properties of Ce-doped ZnO systems have been widely demonstrated, but the effects of different strains of Ce-doped ZnO systems remain unclear. To solve these problems, this study identified the effects of biaxial strain on the electronic structure, absorption spectrum, and magnetic properties of Ce-doped ZnO systems by using a generalized gradient approximation + U (GGA + U) method with plane wave pseudopotential. Under unstrained conditions, the formation energy decreased, the system became stable, and the doping process became easy with the increase in the distances between two Ce atoms. The band gap of the systems with different strains became narrower than that of undoped ZnO without strain, and the absorption spectra showed a red shift. The band gap narrowed, and the red shift became weak with the increase of compressive strain. By contrast, the band gap widened, and the red shift became significant with the increase of tensile strain. The red shift was significant when the tensile strain was 3%. The systems with -1%, 0%, and 1% strains were ferromagnetic. For the first time, the magnetic moment of the system with -1% strain was found to be the largest, and the system showed the greatest beneficial value for diluted magnetic semiconductors. The systems with -3%, -2%, 2%, and 3% strains were non-magnetic, and they had no value for diluted magnetic semiconductors. The ferromagnetism of the system with -1% strain was mainly caused by the hybrid coupling of Ce-4f, Ce-5d, and O-2p orbits. This finding was consistent with Zener's Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida theory. The results can serve as a reference for the design and preparation of new diluted magnetic semiconductors and optical functional materials.

Magnetic and magneto-optical properties of regioregular (>99%) poly(3-dodecylthiopenes are investigated. Faraday rotation of spin-coated films show extremely large Verdet constants, falling strongly with decreasing regioregularity. EPR spectroscopy at room temperature shows the presence of about 1 spin/190 monomers, indicative of delocalisation beyond a single polymer chain. SQUID measurements on the polymer give an effective magnetic moment of about 48900 mB, corrsponding to a S-value of 25.000. The Weiss-constant is 1.33 K indicating ferromagnetic coupling. Our experimental results show that organic polymer magnets can be prepared. Large MO effects allow the use of these materials in all-organic MO-sensors and devices.
Magnetic and magneto-optical properties of Fe/Pt/Fe, Co/Pd/Co trilayers and also the sandwiches with wedge-shaped magnetic (Fe, Co) and nonmagnetic (Pt, Pd) layers were investigated. The oscillatory behavior of the saturation field $H_{s}$ of the studied trilayers with changing the thickness of the nonmagnetic layer (NML) $t_{NML}$ was revealed. That was explained by the exchange coupling between ferromagnetic layers (FML) through the nonmagnetic spacer. For the first time, oscillations of the transverse Kerr effect (TKE) with changing the Pt- and Pd-wedge thickness were discovered. Period of these oscillations was found to depend on the FML thickness and the photon energy of the incident light. TKE spectra of the examined samples were discovered to modify very strongly with increasing $t_{NML}$. The discovered peculiarities of magneto-optical properties of thin-film systems were explained by a concept of the spin-polarized quantum well states in the pt and Pd layers.
A lot of studies are undergoing on the magneto-optical (MO) properties of patterned magnetic systems for the reason that they have potential application to information technology such as ultrahigh-speed computing. Moreover, they can be considered as the future candidates for high-density MO storage devices. Not only the technical aspects, but there have been also tremendous interests in studying their properties related to the fundamental physics. The MO Kerr-rotation effects (both in reflected and the diffracted modes) and the magnetic force microscopy (MFM) are very useful techniques to investigate the micromagnetic properties of such periodic structures. Hence, in this study, we report on the MO properties of bilayered Cobalt (Co)/ nickel (Ni) micro-patterned anti-dot arrays. Such a ferromagnetic structure was made by sequentially depositing co (40 nm)/Ni (5 nm) bilayer on a Si substrate. The anti-dot patterning with hole diameter of $1{\mu}m$ was done only on the upper Co layer using photolithography technique, while the Ni underlayer was kept uniform. The longitudinal Kerr rotation (LKR) of the zeroth- and the first-order diffracted beams were measured at an incidence of $30^{\circ}$ by using a photoelastic modulator method. The external magnetic field was applied perpendicularly to the reflected and the diffracted beams using an electromagnet capable of a maximum field of ${\pm}5$ kOe. Significantly, it was observed that the LKR of the first-order diffracted beam is nearly 4 times larger than that of the zeroth-order beam. The simulated results for the hysteresis loops matched qualitatively well with the experimentally obtained ones. In conjunction with the LKR, we also investigated the magnetic-domain structure by using a MFM system, which were analyzed to elucidate the origin of the enhanced MO rotation.
The Ceramic Metal Halide lamp is different from optical characteristic on shapes of arc-tube and driving method of ballast. In this paper, we measured optical characteristics of the Ceramic Metal Halide lamp that uses arc tubes which are spherical and cylindrical shapes, and analyzed the Ceramic Metal Halide lamp connecting ballast that is electronic and magnetic types through the lamp measurement system that is given for stabilization period of fifteen minutes. In result, the arc-tube of spherical shape is more improvement in the optical properties than the arc tube of cylindrical shape, moreover, the electronic ballast is more efficient than the optical properties of the magnetic ballast.
