Evaluation and Analysis of Dynamic Characteristics in Tilt Actuator for High Density Optical Storage Devices (고밀도 광저장 기기용 틸트 액추에이터 동특성 분석 및 평가)

  • We design a new actuator for high density optical device in order to control the radial tilting motion. The newly designed actuator makes it possible to control the tilting motion actively, while the coventional actuator compress tilting motion with passive spring. First of all, We present 3-dimensional modeling of actuator and accomplish the modal analysis and magnetic analysis of actuator. Due to these results, a new designed actuator has performance of high sensitivity and high second resonance frequency. Secondly, We present the 3-DOF dynamic modeling of the 4-wire spring type actuator. sensitivity analysis is performed to consider the assembling error, such as the difference of mass center and force center. From these results, the sensitivities of rotation due to the assembly error are revealed and design criteria of rotation is presented. And experimental results of a newly designed actuator are presented and compared with theoretical results. Finally, We propose a dynamic tilt compensation and high acceleration actuator for high density optical storage devices.

  • Nowadays, HD(High Definition) broadcasting is popular all over the world. Many people want to record the HD level contents. BD(Blu-ray Disc) is developed to satisfy the needs. BD player for home movie system was manufactured already. ODD maker will produce BD Drive for PC(Personal Computer) within few months. Backward Compatibility is very important point in BD Drive. Until now, two OL(Object Lens), two optical pickup and two deck system are proposed. We suggest Single OL system in this paper. Single OL is composed of two optical parts and it's weight is heavy. We introduce the magnetic circuit composed of two 3-Pole magnets. In Spite of heavy OL, We achieve the New Actuator which has high performance.

Spatially multiplexed volume hologram using an optical fiber (광섬유를 이용한 위치 다중화 구조의 체적 홀로그램)

  • A speckle pattern from an optical fiber is used for a reference beam in writing and reading a volume hologram. The photorefractive volume hologram with this scheme shows good spatial selectivity for spatial(shift) multiplexing because the speckle pattern in writing and reading a hologram looses correlation with a small spatial shift. This scheme has the insensitivity to axial movement. The data storage system with this scheme will have a high storage density and a good stability in operation. We theoretically analyze the diffracted beam from a volume hologram recorded with the speckle pattern from the optical fiber. Experimental results are presented and compared with numerical analysis.

  • Laser projector has many advantages of high brightness, high resolution and small size, but the huge drawback of image degradation called speckle which generated by coherence of laser and roughness of surface interrupts their general use. There are many methods to reduce speckle pattern, but they need effective optical systems to realize display to the far field with huge volume. We designed speckle reduction element by using microlens with controlled curvature to reduce spatial coherence. Vibration element was also applied to reduce temporal coherence which considered response time of eye. Designed element was fabricated by simple reflow method and imprinting method. From the results, the fabricated element performed 48.33% of speckle reduction efficiency and 41.29% of optical efficiency with a single doublet lens.

  • This paper present a modified repetitive control scheme for an optical storage system to track a periodic reference signal with dynamic change in period. Periodic disturbances can be adequately attenuated using the concept of repetitive control, provided the period is know. An optical storage system supports various speeds. To deal with time varying periodic disturbances, an proposed repetitive controller is turned based on repetitive control to change sampling frequency to follow the change of reference Period. A modified repetitive control scheme is proposed and implement on experimental set up of a optical disk driver.

  • In this paper, an adaptive disturbance compensation technique is used in a tracking problem, under which the tracking reference is unknown. Based on a simple disturbance observer that effectively estimates the low frequency components of disturbance, the feedforward compensation is applied in addition to the conventional feedback control. Under the proposed compensation method, sensitivity analysis is given to illustrate the effectiveness. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the tracking problem in an optical storage system.

  • 홀로그래픽 데이터 저장 장치(holographic data storage)는 1960년대에 이미 아이디어가 출현하였고, 1990년대에 들어서 SLM(spatial light modulator)과 CCD(charge coupled device) 등 관련 기술의 발달과 함께 향후 늘어날 대용량 저장 장치 시장에 대한 전망 등에 힘입어 주목받기 시작하였다. 홀로그래픽 데이터 저장 장치의 중요한 장점은 대용량의 정보를 고속으로 처리할 수 있고, 특히 페이지 단위로는 병렬 접근이 가능하다는 것인데, 이를 위해서 반드시 해결되어야 할 것이 픽셀 매치(pixel-match)이다.   • We have developed an optical pickup head for blu-ray disc. We have adopted a liquid crystal panel to compensate thickness difference of cover layer. By disposing DVD/CD compatible objective inside the BD objective in disc radial direction, we could realize a backward compatibility. Furthermore we have inserted a polarization diffractive optical element to reduce the influence from the other layer in BD dual layer.

  • In this paper, we investigate field distribution and interference pattern in the exit pupil and in the focal region. Also, we compare with metal and dielectric substrate for near-field recording. To obtain field distribution, we use modified vector diffraction theory and Zernike Polynomials. Finally, we design and optimize refractive index and thickness of disk for near-field surface recording and cover-layer incident recording.

  • 정보화의 가속에 따라서, 막대한 정보를 저장하고 처리하기 위한 대용량 정보 저장 장치가 요구되어 지면서, 여러 대응 방법들이 제안되었고, 그중 하나가 HDDS (Holographic Digital Data Storage) 이다. 이는 2차원 페이지 정보를 3차원의 공간상에 저장함으로써 고밀도 저장 능력과 빠른 전송 속도를 실현할 수 있다는 장점이 있다. HDDS는 2차원의 고밀도 이진 영상을 기록하고 재생하는 과정에서 인접 신호의 영향(ISI)과 가우시안 잡음(AWGN) 등이 포함되어지기 때문에 정보 복원 시 에러가 발생할 수 있다. (중략)
