In this presentation, study of the energetic astronomical phenomena, active galactic nucleus (AGN) and gravitational wave (GW) source, with time-series observation will be reported. They emit large amounts of energy and play an important role in the history of the Universe. First, intra-night variability of AGNs is studied using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). Second topic is photometric reverberation mapping which is applied for 11 AGNs with medium-bands and Lee Sang Gak Telescope. Last, three gravitational wave events were followed-up by various optical telescopes. Each topic will be specifically addressed in the presentation.

The Boltwood Cloud Sensor is meteorological sensor that is used to estimate an amount of clouds in the sky. This sensor will be installed for OWL(Optical Wide-field patroL) telescope and observatory system of Korea Astronomy and Space Science. Before applying this sensor to an observatory system, we performed test observations at Chungbuk University Observatory at Jincheon, Chungbuk. During the test run, a significant correlation between air temperature difference and the number of visible stars recorded in the CCD frames has not been found. This preliminary result can be attributed to test environment of the observation and our lack of knowledge on calculation algorithm as well as the hardware system of the Boltwood Cloud Sensor. In this paper, we present the procedure and the result of the performance test employing the cloud sensor.

In this paper, a method is proposed for simultaneously measuring the front and back surface profiles of transparent micro-optical components. The proposed method combines a dual-wavelength digital holographic microscope with liquids to record holograms at different wavelengths, and then numerically reconstructs the three-dimensional phase information to image the front and back sides of the sample. A theoretical model is proposed to determine the surface information, and imaging of an achromatic lens is demonstrated experimentally. Unlike conventional interferometry, our proposed method supports nondestructive measurement and direct observation of both front and back profiles of micro-optical elements.
We retrieved the aerosol optical thickness $\tau$$_{a}$ over land from Landsat-7/ETM+ image data using the correlation between the visible reflectance and middle IR reflectance. This band correlation method for aerosol retrieval was originally proposed fur MODIS data analysis by Kaufman et al.(1977). The results of retrieved aerosol optical thickness $\tau$$_{a}$ from Landsat-7/ETM+ data were compared with the simultaneous sky observation data at our study site. We found a good agreement between the retrieved and observed values. We presented the distribution maps of the aerosol optical thickness over land, retrieved from Landsat-7/ETM+ image data. Then, the surface reflectance map was also presented. The aerosol optical thickness over sea was retrieved assuming no reflected contribution from sea in the near IR band. In addition, we discussed some limitations when we apply the band correlation method.

Currently we have an electro-optical space object monitoring system (OWL-Net) developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute as the only ground-based on orbit space object tracking capability in Korea. This system can produce the ephemeris of domestic satellites and survey the geosynchronous orbit region. As the number of observation objects increases and the operation condition get worse, a low budget dedicated monitoring telescope capable of full time geosynchronous orbit region survey can support an effect operation of the OWL-Net. In this study, we analyze the requirements of a low-budget dedicated optical monitoring system for geosynchronous orbit region without the degradation of observation quality to increase the risk of corrupted ephemeris.
The aerosol optical properties such as depolarization ratio (${\delta}$) and aerosol extinction-to-backscatter ratios (S, LIDAR ratio) and ${\AA}ngstr{\ddot{o}m$ exponent (${\AA}$) derived from measurement with AERONET sun/sky radiometer at Gangneung-Wonju National University (GWNU), Gangneung, Korea ($37.77^{\circ}N$, $128.87^{\circ}E$) during a winter season (December 2014 - February 2015) are presented. The PM concentration measurements are conducted simultaneously and used to identify the high-PM events. The observation period was divided into three cases according to the PM concentrations. We analysed the ${\delta}$, S, and ${\AA}$ during these high PM-events. These aerosol optical properties are calculated by the sun/sky radiometer data and used to classify a type of aerosols (e.g., dust, anthropogenic pollution). The higher values of ${\delta}$ with lower values of S and ${\AA}$ were measured for the dust particles. The mean values of ${\delta}$, S, and ${\AA}$ at 440-870 nm wavelength pair (${\AA}_{440-870}$) for the Asia dust were 0.19-0.24, 36-56 sr, and 0.48, respectively. The anthropogenic aerosol plumes are distinguished with the lower values of ${\delta}$ and higher values of ${\AA}$. The mean values of spectral ${\delta}$ and ${\AA}_{440-870}$ for this case varied 0.06-0.16 and 1.33-1.39, respectively. We found that aerosol columnar optical properties obtained from the sun/sky radiometer measurement are useful to identify the aerosol type. Moreover, the columnar aerosol optical properties calculated based on sun/sky radiometer measurements such as ${\delta}$, S, and ${\AA}$ will be further used for the validation of aerosol parameters obtained from LIDAR observation as well as for quantification of the air quality.
