Thickness and Surface Measurement of Transparent Thin-Film Layers using White Light Scanning Interferometry Combined with Reflectometry

  • Surface profiling and film thickness measurement play an important role for inspection. White light interferometry is widely used for engineering surfaces profiling, but its applications are limited primarily to opaque surfaces with relatively simple optical reflection behavior. The conventional bucket algorithm had given inaccurate surface profiles because of the phase error that occurs when a thin-film exists on the top of the surface. Recently, reflectometry and white light scanning interferometry were combined to measure the film thickness and surface profile. These techniques, however, have found that many local minima exist, so it is necessary to make proper initial guesses to reach the global minimum quickly. In this paper we propose combing reflectometry and white light scanning interferometry to measure the thin-film thickness and surface profile. The key idea is to divide the measurement into two states; reflectometry mode and interferometry mode to obtain the thickness and profile separately. Interferogram modeling, which considers transparent thin-film, was proposed to determine parameters such as height and thickness. With the proposed method, the ambiguity in determining the thickness and the surface has been eliminated. Standard thickness specimens were measured using the proposed method. Multi-layered film measurement results were compared with AFM measurement results. The comparison showed that surface profile and thin-film thickness can be measured successfully through the proposed method.

Evaluation of Geometric Modeling for KOMPSAT-1 EOC Imagery Using Ephemeris Data

  • Using stereo images with ephemeris data from the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-1 electro-optical camera (KOMPSAT-1 EOC), we performed geometric modeling for three-dimensional (3-D) positioning and evaluated its accuracy. In the geometric modeling procedures, we used ephemeris data included in the image header file to calculate the orbital parameters, sensor attitudes, and satellite position. An inconsistency between the time information of the ephemeris data and that of the center of the image frame was found, which caused a significant offset in satellite position. This time inconsistency was successfully adjusted. We modeled the actual satellite positions of the left and right images using only two ground control points and then achieved 3-D positioning using the KOMPSAT-1 EOC stereo images. The results show that the positioning accuracy was about 12-17 m root mean square error (RMSE) when 6.6 m resolution EOC stereo images were used along with the ephemeris data and only two ground control points (GCPs). If more accurate ephemeris data are provided in the near future, then a more accurate 3-D positioning will also be realized using only the EOC stereo images with ephemeris data and without the need for any GCPs.

나선형 패턴을 사용한 어안렌즈 영상 교정 및 기하학적 왜곡 보정 (Calibration of Fisheye Lens Images Using a Spiral Pattern and Compensation for Geometric Distortion)

  • 본 논문에서는 어안렌즈의 교정(calibration)과 기하학적 왜곡을 보정하기 위해서 광학 시뮬레이터에 적합한 나선형 패턴을 제안하고, 이를 이용하여 별도의 수학적 모델링이 필요 없는 교정 알고리듬을 제안한다. 나선형 패턴을 광학 시뮬레이터의 입력 영상으로 이용하여 어안렌즈로 왜곡 시킨 영상에서 기하학적으로 이동된 점들의 정합을 통하여 교정을 수행한다. 이러한 과정에서 나선형 패턴 영상에서 중심으로부터 멀어지는 점들이 어안렌즈의 기하학적 왜곡을 거쳐 이동되는 정보를 왜곡되기 전의 위치와 정합하기 때문에 정확한 교정이 가능한 동시에, 별도의 모델링이 필요 없기 때문에 효율적인 처리가 가능하다. 제안된 기술은 어안렌즈를 이용한 패턴인식 시스템에서 손실 없는 디지털 영상 확대를 통하여 정확한 정보를 추출하는 데에 이용할 수 있다. 또한 넓은 시야각을 필요로 하는 다양한 영상처리 분야에 적용하여 어안렌즈의 교정과 왜곡 보정을 가능하게 한다.

  • One of the traditional optical methods to monitor a tool is a CCD sensor-based vision system which captures an aspect of the tool in real time. In the case using the CCD sensor, specific lens-modules are necessary to monitor the tool with higher resolution than its pixel size, and a microprocessor is required to attain desired data from captured images. Thus theses additional devices make the entire measurement system complex. Another method is to use a pair of an optical source and a detector per measuring axis. Since the method is based on the intensity modulation, the structure of the measurement system is simper than the CCD sensor-based vision system. However, in the case measuring the three dimensional position of the tool, it is difficult to apply to micro machine-tools because there may not be space to integrate three pairs of an optical source and a detector. In this paper, in order to develop a tool-origin measurement system which is employed in micro machine-tools, the improved method to measure a tool origin in x, y and z axes is introduced. The method is based on the intensity modulation and employs one pair of an optical source radiating divergent beams and a quadrant photodiode to detect a three dimensional position of the tool. This paper presents the measurement models of the proposed tool-origin sensor. The models were verified experimentally The verification results show that the proposed method is possible and the induced models are available for design.

  • 실리카 유리는 매우 우수한 광도파 소재이지만 비선형 광특성이 거의 없다. 그러나 이런 실리카 유리에 금속 전극과 같은 차단전극을 이용하여 강한 전기장을 장시간 가하게 되면 공간 전하 분극이 발생하게 되고 이에 의해 비선형 광특성이 나타나게 된다는 것은 실험적으로 알려져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 전기분극 시 실리카 유리에서 나타나는 비선형 광특성의 경시적인 변화를 공간적인 위치와 시간에 따라 정확히 예측할 수 있는 수치해석적인 모델을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 지금가지 실험들에서 실리카 유리의 비선형 광특성 발생의 원인으로 밝혀진 공간전하분극을 전기분극 기구의 전산모사를 통하여 규명하였다. 비정질 실리카를 전해질 용액과 같은 특성을 지니는 매질로 가정하고 전하운반체가 단지 $Na^{+}$ 밖에 없다는 가정 하에 유한 차분법 (finite difference method)을 이용하였다. 원래의 복잡한 함수들을 표준화 변수들을 이용하여 간단한 식으로 변환하여 $Na^{+}$의 농도와 전기장의 분포를 표준화된 시편의 길이와 인가된 전압의 세기만으로 구할 수 있도록 하였다.

Quasi-optical design and analysis of a remote steering launcher for CFETR ECRH system

  • In order to optimize the operational safety and reliability of the upper launcher for the CFETR ECRH system, a design of the launcher for NTM control based on the remote steering concept is currently being carried out for comparison with the front steering equivalent. This paper presents the layout design and analysis of the quasi-optical system in the remote steering launcher. A 3D visual quasi-optical design tool has been developed for the quasi-optical system, which can parameterize modeling, perform general astigmatic beam calculation and show the accurate beam propagation path in the upper port. Three identical sets of quasi-optical modules are arranged in the launcher, and each one consists of two fixed double-curvature focusing mirrors, which focus and reflect the steering beams (- 12°-12°) from two square corrugated waveguides. The beam characteristics at the resonance layer are described, and the average beam radius is < 100 mm. The peak head loads on the surfaces of the two fixed mirrors are 1.63 MW/m2 and 1.52 MW/m2. The position and size of the beam channel in the blanket are obtained, and the opening apertures on the launcher-facing and plasma-facing sides of the blanket module are 0.54 m2 and 0.4 m2, respectively.

신경회로망을 이용함 카메라 보정기법 개발 (Development of camera caliberation technique using neural-network)

  • This paper describes the camera caliberation based-neural network with a camera modeling that accounts for major sources of camera distortion, namely, radial, decentering, and thin prism distortion. Radial distoriton causes an inward or outward displacement of a given image point from its ideal location. Actual optical systems are subject to various degrees of decentering, that is the optical centers of lens elements are not strictly collinear. Thin prism distortion arises from imperfection in lens design and manufacturing as well as camera assembly. It is our purpose to develop the vision system for the pattern recognition and the automatic test of parts and to apply the line of manufacturing. The performance of proposed camera aclibration is illustrated by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper introduces mathematical modelling and control algorithm of expendable mine disposal vehicle. This vehicle has two longitudinal thrusters, one vertical thruster and internal mass moving system which can control pitch rate. Also, the vehicle has an optical camera and forward looking sonar for underwater mine detection and classification. The vehicle is controlled via an optical cable connected with operating console on the mother ship. We describe the vehicle's 6DOF dynamic model and controller which can track the desired trajectory for the way-point tracking. These simulation results shows guidance and maneuvering performance which has other sensor data or not.

Study of aerosol-cloud interaction phenomena from satellite remote sensing and climate modeling

  • We have analyzed AVHRR global data set for obtaining aerosol and cloud microphysical parameters, i. e., optical thickness and size index of particle polydispersions. From the results, it is found that the cloud optical thickness increases with increasing aerosol column number, which seems to be caused mainly by decreasing cloud particle radius, The cloud liquid water path was observed to be relatively constant without a significant dependence on the aerosol number. Further comparison of the satellite results with a general circulation model simulation.
