  • By using an off-axial field with an inverse Cassegrain system where the aperture stop is at the secondary mirror, the two-mirror system can be used for a wide-field objective. However, aberration corrections in conventional two-mirror systems are limited because the design parameters are too small. In this study, we present a new improved design of the off-axial-field two-mirror system. The new design has an independently displaced aperture stop and a secondary mirror. The new design parameters yield more improvement in correction for 5th-order coma and astigmatism, and better aberration balancing for the whole off-axial field. The spot sizes of the new design system are reduced to half of those for a conventional reference design, and the improvement effects are shown for the whole field evenly.

  • For high resolution electro-optical payload, the alignment and assembly of the secondary mirror with respect to the primary mirror is the most important step of the whole camera assembly process. For the purpose of the secondary mirror alignment, Wave front sensor and Collimator would rather be useful than the interferometer because of its small size and easiness of handling. In this paper the brief alignment procedure and method of the secondary mirror of a high resolution electro-optical camera system was introduced.

  • Optical disk drives read information by replacing a laser beam on the disk track. As information has become larger, the more accurate position control of a laser beam is necessary. In this paper, we report the analysis and fabrication of the micro mirror for optical disk drivers. The mirror was fabricated by using MEMS technology and it's characteristics investigated. Also, electrode structure for reducing squeeze effect was discussed.

  • Optimization of a 30 cm lightweight mirror was proposed with the best optical performance under various loads of gravity and thermal loads with proper boundary conditions. A pattern for a lightweight mirror was generated based on the best optical performance combined with ease of manufacturing for proper design parameters of physical properties of face sheet, back sheet, rib, and web. Evaluation of the optical performances of a telescope mirror was obtained by using the finite element analysis program, NX I-DEAS. Surface errors, individual aberration terms, such as piston, tilts, focus and other aberrations were calculated by using Zernike polynomials. The proposed telescope mirror meets well the opto-mechanical design consideration of RMS surface error less than 16 nm.

  • To design a wide-field two-mirror system, the system must feature an off-axial field, to avoid ray obstruction and field screening by the secondary mirror. The off-axial aberrations of the system cannot be corrected sufficiently, though, because there are only a few design parameters. The present study designs an improved off-axial-field two-mirror system using a decentered aperture stop.

  • A study on optimum design of the lightweight mirror of a satellite camera is presented. An optical surface deformation of the lightweight mirror, which is a principal component of the camera system, is an important factor affecting the optical performance of the whole camera system. In this study, optimum design of the lightweight mirror is presented. Total weight of the mirror to reduce the optical surface deformation and the launching cost is used as an objective function. Peak-to-valley value and natural frequency of the mirror are given as constraints to the optimization problem. The sensitivities of the objective function and constraint are calculated by a finite difference method. The optimization procedure is carried out by the commercial optimizer, DOT. As a verification of the optimum design of the mirror, two design examples are treated. In the real application example, the lightweight mirror with 600mm effective diameter is treated. The optimized results with various design variables, which are obtained by considering thickness limitations, are analyzed.

  • A visual sensor consisted of polygonal mirror, laser, and CCD camera was proposed to measure the distance to the weld joint for recognizing the joint shape. To scan the laser beam of the sensor onto an object, 8-facet polygonal mirror was used as the rotating mirror. By locating the laser and the camera at axi-symmetrical positions around the mirror, the synchronized-scan condition could be satisfied even when the mirror was set to rotate through one direction continuously, which could remove the inertia effect of the conventional oscillating-mirror methods. The mathematical modelling of the proposed sensor with the optical triangulation method made it possible to derive the relation between the position of an image on the camera and the one of a laser light on the object. Through the geometrical simulation of the proposed sensor with the principal of reflection and virtual image, the optical path of a laser light could be predicted. The position and direction of the CCD camera were determined based on the Scheimpflug's condition to fit the focus of any image reflected from an object within the field of view. The results of modelling and simulation revealed that the proposed visual sensor could be used to recognize the weld joint and its vicinity located within the range of the field of view and the resolution. • To design a wide-field optical system, the inverted telephoto configuration, which has a negative front group and a positive rear group, is popular. For a two-mirror system, the inverse Cassegrain system has the inverted telephoto configuration, but the inverse Cassegrain system with the conventional, axially symmetric configuration shows severe field screening and ray obstruction. To avoid these problems, we put the aperture stop on the secondary mirror of an inverse Cassegrain system to increase field of view, and designed a wide-field off-axis two-mirror system which only uses the off-axis field, without ray obstruction.

  • We considered the uniformity of fabricated micromirror arrays by characterizing the fabrication process and calculating the appropriate driving voltages of micromirrors used as virtual photomask in maskless photolithography. The uniformity of the micromirror array in terms of driving voltage and optical characteristics is adversely affected by factors, such as the air gap between the bottom electrode and the mirror plate, the spring shape and the deformation of the mirror plate or torsion spring. The thickness deviation of the photoresist sacrificial layer, the misalignment between mirror plate and bottom electrode, the aluminum deposition condition used to produce the spring and the mirror plate, and initial mirror deflection were identified as key factors. Their importance lies in the fact that they are related to air gap deviations under the mirror plate, asymmetric driving voltages in left and right mirror directions, and the deformation of the Al sring or mirror plate after removal of the sacrificial layer. The plasma ashing conditions used for removing the sacrificial layer also contributed to the deformation of the mirror plate and spring. Driving voltages were calculated for the pixel operation of the micromirror array, and the non-uniform characteristics of fabricated micromirrors were taken into consideration to improve driving performance reliability.

  • A optical system of a movile LIDAR is designed for air pollution research. After the inverse Cassegrain type collimator, the laser beam falls on the mirror which serve for coinciding optical axis of laser beam and the receiving telescope. Then, it is directed into the atmosphere and back scattered radiation back to the receiving telescope by the scanning mirror. The unit of scanning mirror allows to rotate the mirror along the altitude 0$^{\circ}$~60$^{\circ}$, and the azimuth 0$^{\circ}$~360$^{\circ}$. The scanning mirror is not connected with the receiving telescope but placed on the roof of the mobile. The received beam is spatial filtered by a spatial filter and collimated by a fabric lens. Thereafter, the beam is devided into 2 channel for registration by a beam splitter. Each laser beam is transformed into an electrical signal by means of the photomultifier and then processed to be analyzed.
