  • Parallel optical arithmetic techniques have been developed using the correlation property of optical phase conjugate wave generated by degenerated four wave-mixing. In this paper, conventional rectangular-type coded pattern used for optical logic system is replaced by circular one for effective beam coupling in a photorefractive $BaTiO_3$ material. By adequately adjusting the distance between circular-type pixels of the input pattern and grouping the correlated output, optical binary half addition/subtraction, binary multiplication and, matrix-matrix computation are demonstrated.

  • Optical telecommunication has been growing at a rate that exceeds even the "Moore′s Law". However, while the electronic revolution has allowed everyone to have his/her own PC, the optical revolution is still confined to the long-haul network such that the individual end users are still connected to an electronic metro/access networks. However, given the rapid increase in the data traffic (e.g., multimedia), the optical edge that separates the individual end users from optical networks will eventually have to include the metro/acces networks.   • Controllable waveguide of optical vortex solitons is possible by using the rotational characteristics of optical vortices, while the relative phase difference across the soliton profiles can be used to steer the waveguide direction in case of two-dimensional dark solitons. It is important to understand in detail what sources contribute to the rotation of optical vortices to apply optical vortex solitons to the optical switchyard. (omitted)

  • This paper is to develop an optical ruer displacement sensor for monitoring high speed spindle. Proper magnitude of optical power as well as amplification of output signal are necessary to improve sensitivity of the sensor. In this paper, to meet the need of improvement of the sensor resolution, we choose proper optical power and amplification level through speculating on optical power of a laser diode.

  • A spectroscopic measuring system was developed in order to determine optical gain of gas laser discharge for any optical transitions between 190[nm] and 800[nm] without laser resonator. With an image optical system and a feedback optical system emission light of laser discharge are entered in a monochromator and received at a photomultiplier. Subsequently optical gain and line intensity are measured.

  • In this paper, we discuss a study on Advanced TCA(ATCA) based 40 Gbps level Optical transport platform having 120 Gbps(12, 10 Gbps modules) switching capacity as an OTP based large capacity multi service technology. The ATCA-based OTP(Optical Transport Platform) is composed of OTH(Optical Transport Hierarchy) 10 or 40 Gbps client signal interface module, OTH 10 Gbps transport module, high-rate OTH unit switch, system processor, and can be installed in ATCA platform.

  • Optical wireless mobile communications have the potential to provide wide bandwidth and security . We have proposed and designed the 2-dimensional tracking optical receiver systems for optical wireless mobile communication. The receiver system consist of 4${\times}$4 photodiode array can receive optical signal from the transmitter. The room size is 5${\times}$5m$^2$ and the room height is 3m.

  • The As2S3 thin film has a characteristics of optical modulation in both amplitude and phase. Since the As2S3 thin film can be used as a real-time reconfigurable optical filter, the fSDF filter can be optically fabricated on it. According to the modulation characteristics of the As2S3, the optimal fSDF filter recorded on this thin plate has the form of continuous amplitude and binary phase. Computer simulation and optical experiments on the optical pattern classification show that the As2S3 is suitable for the optical fSDF filter.

  • As optical connectors dominate the performance of optical transmitters or receivers, they need an ultra-precise processing and are composed of optical fibers, ferrule and optical glass lenses. Therefore, this study suggests a nondestructive evaluation technique or a system using resonant ultrasound spectroscopy to evaluate flaws in a optical glass lens. It also conducted a nondestructive evaluation for flaws that are commonly found in a optical glass lens and reviewed the results.
