  • Purpose: To study the route of information on eye-health and the practical rate for college students. Methods: 292 college students' data were examined by SAS of questionnaire. Results: College students mainly gained the information on eye-health from the optician's shop (45.21%), mass communication (27.74%), and ophthalmic clinic (14.38%). The rate of satisfaction of informations from those routes was high. Especially, the satisfaction of the information from the optician's shop was very high (85.60%). Visual acuity corrected students mainly gained the information from the optician's shop (55.50%), and non-corrected students gained mainly from mass communication (43.56%). The practical rate of the information was high (70.21%). The practical rate of the information gained from the optician's shop was very high (76.52%). Conclusions: Many College students gained the information on eye-health from the optician's shop. The rate of satisfaction and the practical rate in optician's shop was higher than the other routes.

  • The measurement of the radius of corneal curvature with keratometer was followed in 184 university students who wearing RGP contact lens and consisted of female(167), male(17) and keratoconus patients(3). Overall mean value in the radius of corneal curvature is 7.77mm, and right and left eyes is appeared the same mean value. Overall mean value in horizontal and vertical is 7.88mm and 7.65mm. Horizontal means is larger than vertical means by 0.22mm of the all female and male students. Male's mean value in the radius of corneal curvature(7.84mm) is larger than female's by 0.08mm, and right and left eyes is also the same mean value. Keratoconus patients' mean value in the radius of corneal curvature(6.86mm) is smaller than others students by 0.91mm.

  • Screening of strabismus was followed in 1306 healthy elementary school students from 8 to 13 years old. The cover-uncover test with M1N GLASSES was used to screen strabismus for all of students and then we examined abnormal students by the prism cover test. Finally 16 students were strabismus. So the cover-uncover test with MIN GLASSES was a good method to screen strabismus because of easy and simple testing. The number of strabismus was 16 patients who consisted in from 10 to 13 years old, and girls(2.4%) was 3 times more than boys(0.9%). The type of 16 strabismus was only heterophoria which consisted in 8 patients of exophoria, 7 patients of esophoria and 1 patient of hyperphoria. So the rate of exophoria and esophoria was almost same. 3 patients was ametropic amblyopia by testing visual acuity, and all of patients were normal color vision by color testing.

  • Purpose: We were to obtain the basic data for studying kinetic visual acuity through the comparative analysis in kinetic visual acuity, visual acuity, refractive error, pupil size, and hand reaction time for college students. Methods: We had tested the kinetic visual acuity, visual acuity, refractive error and hand reaction time using the kinetic visual acuity tester (KOWA AS-4A), the hand reaction time program and auto-refractometer for thirty-nine male and same female optometry students with more than +0.1 LogMAR visual acuity in both eyes. And the results were examined gender differences of kinetic visual acuity and the factors correlation. Results: In the measured values of male, pupil size were 6.00 mm, hand reaction time 0.23 msec, refractive error -1.66 D, visual acuity -0.07, kinetic visual acuity 0.59 and pupil size 5.86 mm, hand reaction time 0.24 msec, refractive error -2.08 D, visual acuity -0.02, kinetic visual acuity 0.46 in female. It was significant difference for kinetic visual acuity values but other factors were not. The kinetic visual acuity and left visual acuity had the highest correlation, r=-0.406. The kinetic visual acuity indicated more excellent values in the case of increasing visual acuity and decreasing myopia amount. Conclusions: It was able to see that male college students were better than female for kinetic visual acuity and the visual acuity were related to kinetic visual acuity.

  • This study investigated the status of soft contact lens wear in college students. The results were as follows: 1. The most prevalent age of initial contact lens wear was 19 years or 20 years, with an age distribution in females from as early as 10 years to 20 years. 2. For almost all subjects, the test clinic for the contact lens wear assessment and purchase of the contact lenses was an optical shop. 3. The main advantage for most male subjects was use for sports, whereas most female subjects used contact lenses for cosmetic reasons. 4. The most common side-effects experienced due to contact lens wear were red eye, foreign body sensation, and eye pain. 5. The most frequently reported eye disease caused by contact lens wear was conjunctivitis, with only few subjects experiencing keratitis. 6. Following treatment for the side effects of contact lens wear, most subjects hoped to re-use the previous contact lenses, some subjects wanted to change to new contact lenses, and others subjects refused further contact lens wear.

  • The physiology and morphology of cornea has effected on the ocular refractive status. Therefore the measurement of the anterior corneal surface by keratometer is used the treatment of the spectacles and contact lens by optician, optometrist, and ophthalmologist. Furthermore, currently the most corneal topographic mapping system have used the clinical optical shop, eye research center, and eye hospital. Because this method have a very fine data comparative to the previous instrument. The authors have measurement the cornea of the man college students by the corneal topographic mapping method. Especially this data will applied the clinical practice for the contact lens fitting. Especially in Korea, many man college students use the contact lens for the visual acuity and a beauty. Therefore the contact lens wear have increase per every year.

  • Applying the computer interface cards installed to old-fashioned, used PENTIUM I for the basic optical experiment makes students to have more attention and interests in the experiment, and enhanced the accuracy of the optical experiment. When applied for the light diffraction experiment, the above way of results made the experiment more accurate comparing with those of other experiments operated in advance. In addition, they turned out to be as same as the data in theory. Applying the above way not only for the basic optical experiments to recycle old-fashioned PCs being abandoned but also for the automation of optical experiments in manual could enhance the efficiency of the experiment a lot.

  • Purpose: In this study the correlation among the myopic refractive error and ocular components in primary school students was investigated. Methods: The subjects were 62 children who had no eye diseases. The refractive error, corneal radius, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, axial length were measured and analysed. Results: Myopic refractive error in primary school students was negatively correlated with the axial length (1~3rd grade r=-0.653, p=0.000/4~6th grade r=-0.742, p=0.000), AL/CR ratio (1~3rd grade r=-0.571, p=0.000/4~6th grade r=-0.852, p=0.000). Conclusions: It was shown that the axial length and axial length(AL)/corneal radius(CR) ratio were very important data for myopic refractive error in primary school students.

  • The purpose of this study is to get related appropriate data for correct awareness and education of the university students who are using contact lens by investigating university students' awareness, present status, using habits and complication of contact lens. The method of survey was made by questionnaires which were spread to the group of 408 university students. The result indicated some characteristics including using daily wear soft lens of 55.7%, the major motive of using them is for cosmetics of 45.6%. Among them, 54.9% experienced complication, and the xerophthalmia was the most conspicuous case in the aspect of the kinds of the complication. In the aspect of the place where they purchased the contact lens, 93% of the users bought them at eye glasses stores. But when they experienced inconveniences of the contact lens, only 18.8% consulted the Stores. In the fact, I think, the users don't seem to trust the stores fully. Furthermore, 43.5% endure the inconveniences when they get them without any treatment. The fact indicates that they don't realize the seriousness of the complication due to contact lens. Reviewing above-stated facts, information and education for correct awareness and managing methods of contact lens, the complication seem 10 be required. In addition, optician specialized knowledge on contact lens and the sense of duty on national eye health improvement seem to be required.
