  • The ophiuroids collected from 13 localities in the vicinity of Cheiu Island during the period from July, 1965 to October, 1991 were observed for the systematic study on the basis of external features. As a result 26 species belonging to 11 families and 2 orders were identified, of which 5 species are neurly reported in Korean fauna and 6ey are as follows: Ophiomyxa austrolis, Ophioccnfho leuispino, Ophiactis dyscrita, Ophiocentws uenicillotus, Ophiorochnella infemolis. The ophiuroids distributed so far in Cheiu Island turned out to be 30 species.

  • A new species of Telestacicola Humes and Stock, 1972 (Copepoda, Rhynchomolgidae) is described as an associate of basket stars (Ophiuroidea) from Korea. The new species Telestacicola turgipes closely resembles T. angoti Humes and Stock, 1973, but is differentiated from the latter species and other congeners by a characteristic exopod of female leg 5 in which the middle of inner margin is protruded, with an angular apex. Doridicola connexus Humes, 1986 and D. micropus Humes, 1973, both associated with a basket star, are transferred to the genus Telestacicola, while Telestacicola sertus Humes, 1978 associated with a hydroid is removed to the genus Pseudomacrochiron Reddiah, 1969 in the Macrochironidae. A key to seven species of Telestacicola is provided.

  • To perform the systematic study on Korean Ophiuroidea the specimens collected from total 92 localities in the Sea of Japan and the Korea Strait during the period from April, 1969 to October, 1991 were classified, As a result, 41 phiuroid species belonging to 18 genera, 8 families, 4 suborders and 2 orders were identified , of which 6 species, namely, Ophiactis brachygenys, Ophiactis modesta, Ophiopholis brachyactis, Amphioda cyclaspis, Amphipholis kichii, Ophionereis eurybrachyiplax have not been reported in Kiorea before. With regard to the distribution of species , 24 species (58.5%) were found only in the Korea Strait, 9 species (22.0%) occurred either in the Sea of Japan and the Korean Strait and 8 species (19.5%) only in the Sea of Japan. Ophiothrix exigua was predominantly collected from 44 localities of total 92 localities examined and also from the Korea Strait, but Ophiura sarsii was the commonest speices in the SEa of Kapn . Eighteen temperature species(43.9%) were found in the greatest number, and then 15 tropical species (36.6%) , 7 boreal species (17.1%) and 1 cosmopolitan species(2.4%) were found.

  • The feeding habits of the pointhead flounder, Cleisthenes pinetorum were studied in the West Sea in Korea. The samples were investigated using 360 specimens (21.7~48.1 cm in total length) collected by gill net of the coastal waters from January to December 2019. As a result, C. pinetorum consumed mainly Ophiuroidea and Pisces, but also ate small amounts of Macrura, Echinodermata, Amphipoda and Brachyura. The results of this study showed a difference with those of main feed habits of C. pinetorum caught in the coastal waters of Kori (Huh and Baeck, 2003). The proportion of fishes in prey items increased with size-related while that of Ophiuroidea decreased. As total length of C. pinetorum increased the mean number of preys per stomach (mN/ST) and weight of prey per stomach (mW/ST) tended to increase.

  • Some euryalid specimens were collected with fishing nets from Mipo, Gyungsangnamdo and Aewol, Jejudo Island, Korea. They were identified as Gorgonocephalus eucnemis (${M\ddot{u}ller}$ & Troschel, 1842), belonging to family Gorgonocephalidae of order Euryalida, which was new to the Korean fauna. Their molecular analyses were done with newly intended COI primers of mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene for the accurate molecular identification. The Korean G. eucnemis was coincident with this NCBI species as a result of Blast analysis, which showed the 99% similarity. In the current study, three Gorgonocephalus species have been reported from Korea.

  • Euryalid specimens were collected from Gonghyeonjin and Daejin, Gangwon-do in the East Sea, Korea at a depth of 250-300 m by fishing nets on November 2013 and August 2014. They were identified as Gorgonocephalus arcticus Leach, 1819 belonging to family Gorgonocephalidae of order Euryalida, which was new to the Korean fauna. Nucleotide sequences of partial mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (mt-COI) gene, which was 569 bp in length, were compared among four Gorgonocephalus species, and were subsequently employed to reconstruct phylogenetic trees using the MP, ML, and BI methods. As a result, no sequence difference was found between the G. arcticus mt-COI gene sequences from Korea and Canada, and the two made a strong monophyletic group. With the newly recorded G. arcticus in Korea, in total, four Gorgonocephalus species have been reported in Korea.
