  • A 4-bundle shift refuelling method of CANDU6 F/H (Fuel Handling) System is analyzed to assess the operational flexibility and capacity of F/H system. The current 8-bundle shift refuelling scheme requires to refuel eight fuel bundles from a single fuel channel, and to refuel 14 fuel channels in a week on average assuming that the reactor is in a steady state. The analysis showed that the 4-bundle shift refuelling method increases F/M (Fuelling Machine) duty cycle and operator load. However, the fuellin’g method change from the 8- to 4-bundle shift refuelling ill not require additional team of operators. A marginal increase in the maintenance cost may be resulted in by the change of fuelling method and the increase of fatigue usage factors requires some components to be replaced during the FM lifetime.

  • In this study, we evaluated degree of importance of e-marketplace solution selection factors. Factor analysis was conducted to find out relationships among various variables which come from literature survey. The result shows that 16(sixteen) -selection variables regarding solution characteristics could be grouped into four areas 'flexibility', 'ease of use', 'security', and 'economy'. And 11(eleven) selection variables regarding to vendor characteristics could be grouped into three areas, 'vendor's support', vendor's general situation', and 'vendor's business accomplishment`. Through various analysis, we found important factors for 3 types of operational companies, buyer-biased, seller biased and neutral. 'Security for data item' was showed as the most important factor for all kind of B2B operational companies. For buyer-biased companies, additional supporting manpower, solution education, and educational cost are shown to be more important factors than others. Place of education, education hours and education level are important for 'Neutral' companies. And the factor 'market share of vendor' are important for 'seller biased' companies.

  • The Korean silk industry is facing challenges due to decreasing demand and intensified competition. To understand its current state and evaluate its competitiveness precisely, we have visited most of the leading silk firms in Jinju area. By questionnaire and in-depth interview, we investigated their operational problems. We found that most of the managers are understanding the necessity of the capabilities in design and material development, but they did not fully aware of the importance of operational flexibilities. Based on the results of the survey, suggestions that are necessary to restore the competitiveness of the Korean silk industry were proposed from industrial and corporate viewpoints.

  • This study was to analyse the understanding of the concepts of science based on the 6th graders' levels of logical thinking in elementary schools. To achieve the goal of this study, logical thinking test was given to 108 6th graders of elementary school and 32 students were interviewed. The result of this study was as follows. First, 61.1% of students were in concrete operational period in their logical thinking, 27.8% were in their transitional period, and 11.1% were in their formal operational period. By using Flow-Map, 32 students were analyzed and their levels of logical thinking was significantly associated with their understanding of concept. Students' flexibility of cognitive structure was significantly associated with logical thinking and the levels of understanding concepts as well. However, misconception didn't show significant association with levels of logical thinking. Second, the characters of understanding of scientific concept by their levels of logical thinking was that as you get higher levels of logical thinking, their cognitive structure to understand concept was more systemized, in order and more logical. The result of this study suggested the followings in science experiment class. First, 6th graders of elementary schools had various levels of logical thinking and that affected to their understanding of scientific concepts. Therefore, lesson planning and class should be done by reflecting their different levels of logical thinking. Second, since they had different levels of logical thinking, various teaching methods should be utilized to make students understand scientific concepts more systematically.

  • The needs in terms of wireless communications are growing up both for civil and military applications. Therefore a constant improvement of this technology is required to meet customer wishes. One of its main shortcomings is the inefficient use of the spectrum in which a large part of the allocated bands of frequencies is unused. Since communication is crucial, spectrum shortage problems can lead a multi-national and coalition operation to failure. Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) are a promising technology which continuously analyses the spectrum searching for available frequencies. It can solve this spectrum issue by avoiding interferences, improving system-wide spectral efficiency, robustness to dynamic conditions and allowing more spectrum flexibility This paper specifically analyzed and presented the application of the CRNs in the military operational environment, and presented the appropriate method applicable to each actual operational situation.

  • Ambidexterity in organizations, in general, is interpreted as flexibility that enables organizational innovation, which is important for survival in a competitive market. It applies to individual workers as well since the ambidexterity of explorational and exploitational IS use will enable the flexible transition between dynamic and operational work, and hence, increase the work performance. The current study will therefore investigate the individual levels of exploratory and exploitative IS use, as well as the complementary relationship between exploratory and exploitative IS use. In a third step, the differential influence of IS on work performance will be evaluated. The current study validated that complementary fit of IS use exploration and IS use exploitation increases performance. Polynomial regression and surface analysis are used to validate the incongruence of IS use pattern. They showed that the incongruence of ambidexterity is composed of two types of divergent vs. convergent ambidexterity which depends on the type of work that need dynamic or operational capability.

  • In this study, the estimating weight data of eight leading ships of Korea navy were processed by comparing with the final weight data of their incline test results statistically, and are analyzed as follows; The maximum criteria of the weight margins of Korea naval ship in the preliminary and detailed design phases seem to be appropriate values, but the minimum criteria would be advisable to update more reasonable values. And, the limitation that the acceptable deviation of lightship weight should be 10 % of the lightship weight on a naval ship's ROC(Required Operational Capabilities) is recommended to be prohibited, because it comes from the weight estimation which has considerable uncertainty and it may also drop off design flexibility. Finally, the SWBS(Ship Work Breakdown System) groups which have larger deviation values in the estimating weight of naval ships are necessary to improve their accuracies, and to upgrade their weight database continuously.

  • Automated Guided Vehicles(AGVs) are widely used in computer integrated manufacturing(CIM) systems for material handling purposes. Although automated guided vehicles provide higher levels of flexibility and computer integrability, the installations are limited in number and one of the critical reasons lies in the complexity involved in the operation. The main objective of this research is to alleviate this problem by proposing efficient integrated operational control methods for AGV-based CIM systems. Particularly, this research is concerned with the mixed problem of dispatching automated guided vehicles and scheduling machines operation. The proposed dynamic heuristic algorithm uses various priority schemes and relevant information concerning the load of the system, the status of queues, and the position of AGVs in the scheduling process. The scheduling decision process is hierarchical in the sense that different decision criteria are applied sequentially to identify the most appropriate part to be served. This algorithm consists of two sections, the section of part selection by AGVs for the next service whenever an AGV completes the current assignment, and the section of part selection by machines for next service whenever a machine completes the current operation. The proposed algorithm has been compared with other scheduling schemes using the performance measure of mean flow-time and mean tardiness. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the mean flow-time and mean tardiness significantly.

  • Over the past fifty years, the share of the World's shipping fleet operating under open registry has grown from 4 % to almost half of the total tonnage. While there has been strong opposition based on the costs of maritime disasters and opposition both from the traditional maritime nations, which have suffered erosion of their fleets, and from labour unions, which point to worker exploitation, the shipping companies have found the greater operational and financial flexibility which accompanies open registry to be a considerable attraction The paper consists of seven sections. Section 1 explains the background and of the study. Section 2 reviews the characteristics and definition of FOC. Section 3 is to identify ship register categories and their competitive conditions. Section 4 tackles the emerging forces of globalisation-the advent of FOC. Section 5 deals with legal maritime framework. Section 6 tackles the current structure and characteristics of FOC vessels. Some concluding comments follow in the last section.
